How long for the Marine Corps guns to look like that? I suspect they see a lot of use. Parkerized (and blued) guns that are heavy use also show a lot of wear from holstering etc. I suspect Marine Corps 1911s aren't safe queens.

I've only ever used Duracoat but it held up nicely on an AR I did. For any of those the biggest challenge is surface prep. No oils or grease or dirt is allowed and polymer probably needs to be roughed up a little to get a surface to adhere to.

I've had an aversion to painting guns. I have plenty I could have done it to but for some reason I find it emotionally hard to do it. Same reason probably that I don't weather my trains. On the rifles (mostly AR) I mix colors for various doo-dads. Stock, grip, panels, etc might all be different colors to try and break up the outline.

It wasn't stated when they started looking like the photo. Probably didn't take long with a weapon in daily use.

I used to use Brownell's Baking Lacquer but they don't offer it anymore. This was a great, durable finish that actually does hold up well. I guess that's why they stopped selling it. It worked too well.

I would use this to refinish the alloy frames on Walther P1 and P.38s. I also used it on the alloy frames of the W. German SIG-Sauers when they were showing a lot of metal. Best spray on finish I ever found.

Afternoon to all..........

Seems my keyboard, after 10 years of use, has crapped-out on my desktop computer. I put in new batteries but no help. I ordered the same Logitech keyboard/mouse combo, since it lasted 10 years, I should (theoretically) get another 10 years out of my replacement. Amazon says Friday delivery. I am using my laptop until then.

I ordered some parts from Squeakys Trains on Aug 30 (on sale decoder items) and they arrived yesterday. Thats quick shipping in my book considering Labor Day weekend.

Got a couple of freight cars coming from Lombards........a Tangent Cotton Belt boxcar and a Burlington B R E X wood reefer.

A bit of work on the fascia panels for my railroad got finished last night and all push buttons and turnouts works well.
I have to do a test fit on my layout for the Walthers Champion Packing building and stock pens. I added a second main line and may have crowded the allotted space for the building area. I am using the Champion Packing plant as SWIFT packing plant. I ordered some "G" scale SWIFT boxcar decals a couple of weeks ago. The 2 large "SWIFT" logos from the decal set will make great building signs.

Hot today in west Texas.

I have been missing some feeding bowls that I use for my outside cat. I'm on the third bowl in as many weeks. I looked out the back door around 9 pm last night and saw a nice, fat raccoon on the back porch. I'm guessing this is my bowl thief. I checked around about a 40 foot radius from the porch but no bowls. I'll have to lay low and dispatch this fat critter. Raccoons are bad for carrying rabies.

Well, times-a-wasting so I better get busy.

Take care.......John

Just something I wanted to share with you all today. I'm not sure I shown you the log depot I built a very long time ago (1980's). It was a plan and instructions in the MR magazine back then. I built it out of 1/8" dowel stock and the corners of all the logs are notched just as on a real log building. This station has been on many layouts over the years and now resides on a shelf and I made a diorama for it. The water tank is kit built. Not sure of the manufacturer, but might be a scale structures kit??

The interior has a waiting room, station office, and freight area. The lighting was originally grain a rice bulbs. I have since changed them to woodland scenics lighting and a switch is in the back of the diorama. From the pictures it looks like I should turn the lights down a bit so it's more of a glow instead a "in your face" lighting. 😁

God evening all
It has rained most of the day.

I have been expecting a parcel to be delivered today. According to Royal Mail tracker it was eight miles away 24 hours ago???
They will deliver it tomorrow!!!

Dawn hasn't been 100% today; not even 60%. A good job we are not ill together.

Flo, can I have a large tea please.

Just purchased a little 0.4.0 locomotive brand new at half price.. Reason it was half price is the livery is not a popular one. Store wanted 'rid of it'. Should arrive early next week. One happy NorthBrit.
Awe c'mon! A little hint? :)

They took the loss well and will re-group for another game tomorrow night.
Winning builds confidence, losing builds character. A team needs both when they face tough challenges in the tournaments.

I'm glad to hear they took the loss well. As a player I never handled losses well. That could be why I never played on a championship baseball or football team. I played on a championship basketball team in junior high school. 🤪 We breezed through the tournament, with no adversity to face. That seldom happens.

If you've ever taken one of those 150-ish question tests
If I had that kind of patience I may have finished college. I couldn't sit still that long when I was young. There was money to be made, sports to be played and girls to play with at the end of the day. I have time now, but what would be the point?

In business I was never the best at anything. I was always reliable, and my work was dependable. No matter what I got involved in I always made a profit.

Good morning, Everybody!

My Birds have swept the three-game series in San Diego!

The Nationals swept a three-game series with the Marlins in DC!

Today is an unusual day in that both the Orioles and the Nationals have the day off. I'll decide what game to watch when I wake up tonight/tomorrow. There is always something interesting to watch in MLB.

Friday will be a fun day for baseball. The Nationals will be in Chicago to face the Cubs. My Birds will host the Dodgers in Baltimore.

Looking at the MLB standings I found this to be interesting. Except for the Tigers all the six division leaders have only won five of their last ten games. The AL Central leaders, the Tigers have lost seven of their last ten games. Who wants to win the pennant?

The Yankees (8W-2L), Red Sox (7W-3L), Rangers (7W-3L), and the Giants (9W-1L) are all coming on strong. We could have one or more close finishes in the race to the playoffs. The Tampa Bay Rays are a long shot but having won eight of their last ten we can't count them out. The Diamondbacks and Cardinals have both won six of their last ten games. They are even further back then the Rays, but you never know. As Yogi said "It aint over till it's over" Having three Wild Card teams in each league (AL&NL) making the playoffs does make it interesting.

As always there were many individual achievements, but there is already too much focus on the individual. After all, baseball is a team game. Have I mentioned I love baseball recently?

My blood pressure is good; glucose is great so I'm off to get ready for work, thank God.

Have an enjoyable day Everybody, I wish you all the best!

Good morning all. A cloudy day with rain forecast this afternoon.
Workmen fitting the new bathroom suite are here. They should be finished by the weekend.

Expecting deliveries of a model station building and a Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway (L&YR) road vehicle.

Flo. A large tea, please. I'll have Eggs Benedict with Salmon, please.

In my case, this test helped with the old adage:

Know thyself!

Now, I understand WHY I didn't do well running the business. I understand why doing paperwork on a daily basis wears me down.

My skills/strengths are in the creative zone. That's why I like to paint models.

But that #1 Adaptability... that's my chasing squirrels strength. I need to bounce. Go from one project to another.

And why I've been attracted to Model Railroading. It's such an expansive hobby that I'll be able to bounce a lot. I've been building a double deck layout for reasons that I know understand. Two decks in different state of production. I'll work on the top deck first. Get the track laid soon. Ugh... boring!

Go build a few buildings... bored again... Go ballast some track.... Bored... let's learn how to weather a car... etc...

Unfortunately, playing games got in the way for a long time. I'm winding most of that down now. By December I should be ending all responsibilities on that side.

And, being in N scale, that's the same as 10mm gaming scale. I always 3D print some orcs or zombies or American Civil War figures and paint them for either the train layout or the game table.
