Another happy Saturday at w*rk! Can't wait to get out at 2, but SWMBO mentioned couch shopping this afternoon, ugh.
I always enjoy shopping from my couch...
I read yesterday the average “adult” spends $116 each per month eating out.
Ha! When did they take their "average"? Before pandemic / hospital experience et all, we stopped at the local Wendys or Five Guys once a week. Average for two under $20. Now? We stopped at Wendy's I had a Single burger and a soda, wife had a meal still $20. So maybe Fast Food? The cost of breakfast at the diner surprised me though.
Good morning to all! 58f degrees now heading to a hopefully clear skies and 78. The 10 day forecast claims this will be the pattern, this is day 2 of that! We have the granddaughter arriving any minute as her mom and 3 friends head to the tailgating at the Badger football. Kickoff is at 11 versus a cupcake. Dad and her brother have soccer at 9:30 so the 3 of us will trek to that. After the soccer game, the team has been invited to have a pool party and watch the game on TV. There will be 10 of the team of 16 showing up. The pool water which I have a solar cover for was at 85 this morning. The lap pool with its unfinished roof was cold this morning at 76, but definitely invigorating. The lap pool heater is not being used, yet! Actually after the initial shock to the system it was fine
I have a buddy coming over after 3 to pick up his 2 diesels I programmed yesterday. He will be here till 6 soldering the feeder wires in the staging yard. He was invited to stay for dinner but his wife is house bound and he won’t eat without her. He uses a resistance soldering rig and it makes it so easy to solder the feeders. I have the feeders sticking up through the road bed ready for him. 4 staging tracks and a run by track.
Between the run by and the nolix there will be roughly 150’ of test track to run on. The 4 staging tracks are between 35 and 40 feet long. I had to send (ok beg) Terry to go to the LHS yesterday afternoon as I was going to be short of the re-used code 100 for the staging tracks. I really dislike when I cannot add things. Short by 20’. She laughed when she came back. Said the owner of the LHS wasn’t going to charge her as he didn’t know the price I was going to tell her that I paid. Nothing like getting tossed under the bus. She probably knows better than me what I spend.
Everything is ready for the finish soldering. I figured out around midnight last night why I was short of track. I extended the nolix as I moved the staging tracks around 30’ farther down. The staging is 14” under the main level at 42” off the floor. My 39” stage skirting will fill-in to the floor very nicely leaving a nice air gap.
I have belonged to a layout operations group for 5 years. They also offer layout building help. This lone wolf builder is having issues letting go. But I had help from the daughter and her friend on this layout framework build as well as the last one. I still have control but now it’s managing the help and materials. The group says it’s no different than being the owner of the layout on operation’s day. The owner oversees everything, troubleshooting if needed but doesn’t usually run a train during a session. I call it project management.
This Tuesday, a crew of 4 are coming including the soldering guy again! The power buses are installed and he will solder the feeders to that. When the track is installed above I will run the feeders up from the power bus through the foam. This is his 6th layout in 2.5 years he said he has helped with the wiring. He will have a helper. The framework and power bus is completed from where the nolix joins the main level to the next nolix, about 300’. He says with his helper they will have added all the feeders to the power bus. Track level is at 54” and easily with his rolling chair he fits underneath the frame work. The rest of us will be doing roadbed. When the feeder wiring is soldered to the track in a few weeks he and another guy will sit down with me to figure out the circuit breaker protection. I’ve never really worried about that before but I also never had a layout this big.
So my Tuesdays till Thanksgiving are scheduled with helpers. Thursdays are still for me. The weathering sales have slowed down as IMO the economy is finally catching up with the model railroaders. The commission work is still there though, especially the locomotives.
have a great day
Not global warming! It’s now called climate change. Let’s stay PC correct as we don’t want to upset one side of the debate as to if it’s real or not!
our 90+ degrees days in So Central WIsconsin normally were 10 days a year. This year already we have had 21. But this year both the NWS and the Farmers Almanac says our area will be severely cold this Winter. We also are in the midst of a “severe” drought. So yes, things change
Hope you played well!
Realistically, our climate is changing, but is that new or ongoing? That's my question. The cooler than normal summers here in Jersey are a change from the "norm". Might not be the change the progressives and headline writers thrive on, but it's a change in our climate. You might remember the atmospheric cooling that was popular in the 70s and 80s. Nature evolves constantly. Much of the greenhouse gas effect are cumulative dating back to the industrial age, and can't be undone faster than nature allows, but we do need to be better stewards. Problem is determining the best course.
SWMBO just came in and wished me HAPPY BIRTHDAY along with informing me that we have to go to one of the Newport's G-sons football game then back here for a family gathering with BBQ and trimmings - No soup for me today!
All The daughters have banned alcohol in our house - I may have to sneak a sip down the road.
I can take or leave it, but wife was seriously having a problem! Started becoming that way 6-8 months back - none of us can figure why? Says she is depressed - YAH - drink more - that will help - NOT!

Well, howdy there internet peeps and those for whom the climate isn't changing fast enough... or too fast (that should take care of both sides of the debate).
I got my words in this morning. Cleo the vampire cat is in rare form chatting telepathically with Sammi the bookstore owner...
I got the suitcase out of the closet, and opened it on the spare bed. Then I started putting stuff in it or near it as I thought of them.
Clothing will get aligned tomorrow as I do the laundry. I could mostly pack today, but why? I don't leave until Monday morning.
Earlier, there was a discussion about
Tom O's wall-mount paint racks - I use the free-standing nail polish racks. Same idea, but stepped levels instead of single level. Find them on amazon
Behind these orcs, which are on my hobby list for today, are wooden laser-cut paint racks. I prefer the acrylic ones over the laser-cut mdf.
More orcs in progress
Time for lunch, then I gotta get busy with these orcs.

...And deeper in debt. Oh, wait--wrong song...
Good Morning!
Just got back from the morning dog walk. The forest is changing hue drastically, and will soon be leafless.
Guy - I'd be concerned about the camera beep bothering the horse if I was on that trail in your second picture. Not a lot of trail on the left.
Willie - Those trails looked a-lot worse than that in some places. Here's the wife standing close to the edge over-looking the creek below:
Some spots along that trail, I was praying my horse liked me. It did prove to me that the wife has more courage than me, in some instances.
It's a very decent day today at 46F right now. I'm sad that the day will be spent installing LED grow lights in my wife's indoor winter garden area. But, a happy wife makes a happy life. She keeps those lights on 24/7 in the winter. From the street, the house looks like a carnival at night.
Sherrel - A very
Happy Birthday to you, sir!

And it's pure wisdom; not another nail.
Troy - Great looking Orc's. They look friendlier than some of the orc's I met in the bars during younger years. Yes, I drank alcohol at one time, long ago.
Anyway, have a great day folks. It's time to get busy!
Happy Birthday Sherrel!
Flooring estimate about 1/3 of what I expected and about twice what the wife thought. So about right.
Happy Birthday Sherrel. As long as you keep adding them, I will never catch up.
So yesterday there was rain in the forecast and it didn't rain. Today there is no rain in the forecast and 10 minutes ago it started raining, more in that ten minutes than all week combined when it was predicted. I'm getting an umbrella and heading out to the train shed.

Went to Logan's Roadhouse for dinner. Had the 6 oz sirloin. Wife had the meatloaf (which she gets two more meals out of the leftovers.)
We had a bonus on our app to get a free dessert (peach cobler). Even with the freebie, total bill was 38.00 US before tip.
