Good afternoon. Layout time as after 3 hours of 2Bay car weathering I needed a break. Added ground goop to the Transload Facility. Around the edges, my mix is Celluclay, Elmer’s glue-all, paint and water. Slopped on, contoured and let dry. I will check a couple more times tonight and as it dries and shrinks I will add some more ground goop.

Good Morning All. Clear and 67°, nothing much different about today than the past few. Supposed to get into the upper 50's tomorrow night, but not much other change in the next 10 days, upper 60's-low 90's. No rain in sight. Not a lot of dew this morning, it should burn off earlier so I can start mowing again.

Thanks to each and every one for the congratulations on our 50th anniversary. I can't believe that that woman from across the pond is trying to upstage our occasion! ;) Now let's get on with playing with trains.

I noticed that Freddie Mercury has reunited with Queen!

Smudge - Great as she is/was, how much longer do we have to look forward to this BS?

Road trip yesterday went well but was not without unforeseen issues. Ran out of time and skipped the train store, a small disappointment. We were unable to locate a parking place at the Oklahoma Sports Hall of Fame after 30 minutes of circling and looking. Apparently the visitors to most anything in this area of OKC park remotely and rent those electric scooters, which were everywhere, and then use them to get around. Just not the thing for a couple of overweight 70+ year olds to use. We did spend more time than we thought we needed at the Will Rogers Gardens, which was OK since they were quite well done. The air park at Tinker AFB was also quite interesting. Lunch at the brewery was great but pricey. The only traffic issue was a 5.5 mile lane closure on IH35. It wasn't a problem going north to OKC, but coming home it took nearly 45 minutes to navigate.
On the way out from home we went by the nearby wind farm that I have referenced before, first time I had the camera with me. Wife took all of these pictures since I was driving.

These towers are between 240' and 375'. At night the flashing red lights on a single turbine are visible from my pool deck if I look just right. As the crow flies, the closest one is ~5 miles away
There's 53 of these turbines spread out over 18,000 acres of pastureland.

Obviously no time in the train shed yesterday. I went straight from the car into the pool when we got home around 1700.

Some catching up to do here in the Coffee Shop.

Tom O - You're making some great progress with the warehouse background building.

Christmas in September!
Dave B - I get an earful from my wife after we go to social activities because in her opinion "I don't talk enough".
George - As a youngster I saw many trains through Chatham NY, heard many more since the NYC tracks ran alongside the Catholic Church there. I also saw a few B&M trains in their day, (or were they B&A?). Dad said that I saw steam engines there, but I do not remember them as I was younger than three when they came through. I do remember what I now know were F7's on the NYC line, lots of them.
The handicap parking place is behind the Farmco building! While I have some at other places of business, they weren't really in popular use in the era that I model.
Jeff - Have a safe trip.
Like Ken, I can't use the zero-turn mower either since one hand is needed to hold the beer. ;)
Karl - That's too bad about the dog.

In other news, besides the Queen, our southern border is still being overrun. Governor is sending them to sanctuary cities as fast as he can, but I noticed that Chicago is sending them to suburban cities unannounced.
Road trip pictures in separate posts later as I have spent too much time here already this morning.
Everybody have a great day and an awesome weekend.
BS…well I am sorry you feel that way, but the Queen has been a part of our lives forever, she is well regarded in our country, and we show respect for yours. She has seen every one of your presidents who existed during her reign, except one, when they visited. A few days of us honouring her passing is hardly the end of the world :(

🤣Hang on in there Willie, soon, there will be lots of other doom and gloom for the media to televise or write about.

That is, until the Coronation of course. :D
Plus there is always the scroll down option,
a tower at Windsor castle as you go, I worked in the town for years.

I personally plan a skit on my layout as a memorial to the great lady. That corgi needs an owner. a dignified lady walking her dog seems totally appropriate.
I am also considering the Paddington bear skit, and I think I’ll add him to a platform, I wonder if my collection of locos includes something appropriate. A quick search popped this up, now I’ll have to find them in their boxes, then figures then a Paddington bear

Then I have ER rail soon to be CR, there’s a Dominion of Canada who have just confirmed Charles III, and I barely searched…..yes I think this could stretch ooooo years……

Good morning gang!

59° and overcast, heading to 81° , rain tomorrow.

At work til mid afternoon, then home for a much needed nap.

Making arrangements with the rescue group we got her from to rehome the Husky. She used to not care about the cat, now she wants to eat it. My Border Collie used to be her best friend, now I have had to break up several dog fights. She can't be trusted around the Grandkids (she's nipped at them), and to top it all off wifey got home from work yesterday to find the kitchen tablecloth shredded and her standing on top of the table. Enough is enough!
She has been housebroken since arriving here 2 months ago, and it was hard house training a 1 year old dog, but with helpful cues from the other dog, she got it. 6 weeks of training at Petco also helped with basic commands, but she's still unruly unless you have a treat in your hand. She needs some serious training, and a home without cats and small kids. I give up. She leaves next Saturday. I've never worked with a dog so much and had such disappointing results. It truly sucks.

BBL
You tried to do a good thing, you stuck with it,but the original family and kids need to be protected, I know you will but you do not deserve to feel guilty, hopefully the next home can finish the job you tried to make this dog housebroken, rather than house breaking.

Well, if you do put nice Miss Liz on your layout, there needs to be a gentleman in a Guard's Uniform.

Of course when I went to look up that photo, the newsies say it was a real photo, but she wasn't laughing at him. Still, be an additional giggle to have him nearby.

Well. it looks like I will have plenty of time to inventory items to sell at the Oct train show.
My wife has been tired and has a little sore throat. We picked up some Covid tests yesterday and she tested positive, but feels mostly like a mild cold. Since I occasionally kiss on her, she tested me and I barely tested positive. We had to cancel some plans, but I dug out some materials to make some pipe loads to sell.
Most will be HO loads, but I will try making some N scale and O scale loads, too.
Yes, I know, pictures when the glue dries.

I meant no ill will toward or about the Queen, I personally feel that she has been a beacon of light to all UK and other Dominion citizens all of her life. My ire is towards the mainstream American news media with their non-stop coverage that is intended to divert our attention from many real issues facing the American public. It is really obvious to us on this side of the pond. She was a leader in the true sense of the word, unlike our leaders over here who are just out to get votes and enrich themselves. I only mentioned immigration, there are issues pro and con about the environment, the economy, safety and security, and many other problems. I could go on but it might ruffle the admin team here on the forum. Hopefully you understand my position..

Totally understood the intent of your original post. I totally agree with your points. The Queen was a fine outstanding example of what a leader should be like. Wall to wall coverage is fine… in the Commonwealth and GB. May King Charles the 3rd be 10% the person his mother was, if so, he will be a fine Monarch!

Mikey: Sorry you and your wife tested positive...Get Well. I hope it's mild.

Willie: Agree!

Troy: I believe Preiser had HO scale figures of both HRH and Prince Phillip, back maybe 15 years ago, that were well done. Also all the other important leaders of the Western World. Wonder if they still do.

Jaz: Back in the late '80s shortly after we moved here, the home next door was sold to a Brit family, that moved here from Hong Kong. Never learned what his business was, but he traveled a lot. They remained here for about five years, then moved on. Great people. On another street, was a woman who married a Airman and of course moved here when his deployment was complete. She would fly the Union Jack for every Major British Holiday, and a few minor ones also. Think she did it to irk some of her neighbors. ;) BTW, Great Photos.

There is a story about Roosevelt's first meeting with Churchill, on the HMS Prince of Wales, when the Atlantic Charter was signed. Prior to WW2, our nations were not close, and there was sufficient mutual suspicion. Roosevelt, a wealthy man was reportedly surprised as he attended Church Services on the British Battleship, and later wrote that he never knew just how similar we were but realized the Anglican Services were identical to the Episcopal Services FDR was familiar with, down to the selection of hymns. That reportedly erased any reservations he may have had about signing the Treaty. Don't have a citation, but I know I read this in some biography.

Karl: Sorry to hear the Husky didn't work out as you wanted. We had a similar occurrence about 15 years ago, and sent a beautiful girl back because she was too much for the wife to handle. We are still regretting our decision, even though it was probably the right one.

Curt: Since oil houses were used to store oil for journal boxes, they had to fit between tracks so the oil would be available to car inspectors working trains. Now I'm seriously considering one for Stoney Creek yard. I did order a new G41a Covered Steel Coil Car from Tangent. They were announced today. I almost choked at the price, but ordered one plus a box of coils and a 2pk of extra covers. The PRR car is a 1966 build. I will wait on the PC 1975 repaint, because at current prices, I can't buy 2 at a time any longer.

No work on the layout today, in fact, not much of anything accomplished except a planting and watering the lawn and location of the planting.
I suddenly have a lot of medical related stuff going, and may have been a tad pre occupied. Need to get to work on the layout.

New "Keystone Magazine", (PRRT&HS Publication), came in today's mail. Contains some interesting articles, and a history of the river crossings between Perryville and Havre de Grace, MD. Finally something I can relate to.

Yep, 9/11.
I'll be riding up to the Arlington National Cemetery to attend a wreath laying ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier this morning at 9am.
Yep!
I was going to attend a 9/11 memorial in Birmingham today, but Covid will make me watch on TV.
Have a friend who was supposed to be at the Pentagon for a meeting that day who had a flat tire delay him. He still has nightmares.

some of my cousins are New Yorkers, my dad loved his US brother in law, over here ww2,he was of Italian decent, and much liked the divorce was more my aunts fault. After the marriage they went to the US after the divorce he never returned.I have photos but the ones with uniform wer given to my cousin as we all got older. but dad always said he had a great sense of fun.

I realise there have been horrific heatwave deaths, and flooding too we are smaller in geographical terms and numbers but percentage wise we also suffer, immigration, and drugs, and shootings, knifing, vehicles, even planes, and floods all happen here. Our fuel bills are scary, strikes are breaking out, though as mentioned those stopped for 10 days to honour our Queen passing, even the politicians are planning on curbing their excesses as they hold or delay their annual events. Less champagne apparently grimaces.I flick through the news looking for the bits I might recognise, the skits she took part in. your president have a limited time in the centre of the storm our Kings and Queens have little privacy their whole lives. Charles was ridiculed by the media for much of his time as a prince -not all undeserved he did put himself out there, but his pet projects inc hating gmo food, improving housing for the poorer people, environmentalism, good food production quality not quantity greenhouse are all now in vogue he was before his time he may not be interlectual but he is intelligent and speaks to those who know. The present royal family I inc our Queen have done their best to appease the past, something they never took part in. They have brokered peace many times. Our Queen has done her best to curb some regimes excesses, and this country per capita gives loads to charity despite knowing much of it ends up in politicians or military hands, what eve little trickles through better than nothing, We May no longer be the Britain we were, and some rightly have issues with our past, anything in her time was not condoned by her, she has no political strength in this country she has to appease the politicians carefully.
But with Brexit I hope we will once again govern ourselves and improve ourselves and others. We certainly took no time (as did the US and Canadians) after 2014 to help the Ukrainians knowing that they supply the whole world with fuel and food and that that could cause chaos.

Everyone is scared, weather, pestilence, war, famine, death, they are all in the mix a serious time of uncertainty, and many of us wince at our leading politicians and their conniving for themselves and not for their countrymen. The old bible origins appear to be from historical documents, civilisations have risen and fallen, felled by those 4 well known horrors. We cannot only hope ours is not about to topple.

Although there is one overlooked fact regards weather, even in modern times ie the last few thousand years, London had what it called a min ice age and winter fairs on ice on the river Thames, in Roman times we were in a definite warm period. Study of geography and plants and even animals shows us we have lived through ups and downs. people may be pushed from the equators to the northern hemisphere, which if it melts luckily sits on vasts areas of agricultural type soils. Even the sea rise we talk about presently are mostly supposedly 80 years off before extreme losses, not with standing the coastal areas now already suffering. but we are a tenacious creature. Let’s hope we do not try to top ourselves and get through this.

Smudge - Great as she is/was, how much longer do we have to look forward to this BS?

Willie.
I could ask you how long is a piece of string, I have no idea how long "this bs", :mad:as you put it, will go on for, quite a while I would think, after all, who else do you know of has served their country for so long, and is known throughout the world, and is probably one of the most famous people in the current century, if someone said to you "have you ever met The Queen" their are only two, one of which you recently celebrated 50yrs with, so I doubt you would reply "which Queen? would you?

So further to your comment, I suggest you check your local TV listings for future events Re: media coverage of the UK Monarchy.

Just so you know what's likely still to be covered:

Currently on offer, we have the cortege travelling through Scotland to Edinburgh, where it will stay for 24hrs.
The Coffin will then be flown to London, then we will have 4 days of lying in state.
The funeral will be on the 19th.

Upcoming events are:

Coronation of King Charles III

Investiture of Prince William to the title of Prince of Wales.

So if you would like to avoid the "bs" I suggest you plan accordingly.

.

At one time the Earth was tropical, until (as theorized) a meteor hit causing the ice age. Who's to say mother earth isn't adjusting herself back to where it was.

Good afternoon, all. Sort of a lazy day here. Got the mowing done yesterday, along with the dog's bath.
Tomorrow will be the 21st anniversary of the terror attacks on America. Attached is a really awesome video. If you have never seen it, it is well worth your time.

I started the roof on Keystone Mill. Still have a way to go to finish, but I think it will turn out OK.

Thanks for the video, never seen that before, inspiring, and the mill looks great too :D

Good morning gang
68 and raining, looks like we won’t see the sun til Tuesday.

Mikey, ain’t it funny how kissing used to lead to kids, now it leads to Covid? Take care of you and your bride.

American media coverage, I’ve got no issue with coverage of the passing of the Queen, the rise of Charles III, and all of the associated pomp and ceremonies. I just hoping someone is watching the back door, as the parade passes by.

BBL

Good morning from the land of media “BS” and hype for ratings. It’s a beautiful Wisconsin Fall day for any ducks. It’s 57f/13.8c degrees heading to a balmy high of 58/14.4. The rain continues this still Summer day after starting about 9 last night and is not predicted to stop till early tomorrow. 2.15” of rain has fallen per the 3 computerized weather stations I have around the property. Very rare that all 3 are close let alone the same. It’s too wet to check the manual gauge outside the north deck! I might melt being so sweet.

I remember exactly where I was and doing when I heard about the second plane hitting the towers. What a lousy day that changed the course of the world we all live in. While the USA is still a great country it has changed IMO for the worst. Politics suck!

Trains. Lots of time in the train room yesterday. Over the course of the day I logged over 3 hours at the weathering bench and just over 4 hours on the layout. Started early yesterday at 9:45AM. Rarely does my hobby day start until after the noon hour. Trees made, ground goop for ground cover, created a entrance road to the transload facility, started the concrete color process on the new entrance, pictures taken. Many pictures posted yesterday here, at HO Scale Shelf Modelers on FB and my own blog. Lots of varied comments and a few good suggestions on how they would have done it, mostly on my blog which is strange!

We had the granddaughter for 4 hours yesterday but it was a day of bonding with grandma, I was not needed or wanted! Today, her brother has soccer in the rain at noon and she doesn’t handle watching her brother too well in the rain. She will be here around 10:00AM as the game is about 70 miles away. This is the g/s 1st game with the new team and league. The area league disbanded the previous team due to parental discord.

The NFL opens today for most of the teams. I do have mixed feeling about watching or not. I have not really followed even reading about the league this summer. I had been keeping up by reading just not watching too many games the last 3-4 seasons. This year so far, I have done neither. But, I am sure the Packer fanatic in the house will let me know how the game is going if I don’t watch. She becomes very excited and vocal when the Pack play…

We Will Never Forget

Good 9/11 Morning All. Partly cloudy and 66° here this morning. Surprise! The NWS added a small chance of rain this morning to our forecast. Wonder if it has anything to do with the fact that there are actually some isolated pockets of rain over in the eastern part of our county, about 15 miles from me. It isn't moving in our direction.

Yesterday was "catch up" day on the SFW estate. Laundry and other household chores and then yardwork capped off the afternoon.

No train shed time yesterday, but as promised, a few pictures from our road trip.
Today is at the Will Rogers Gardens. None of the plants were labeled, but they all looked fine. There is an arboretum with Cacti inside and out. Please excuse the other visitor.

Tom O - Combine crews work late afternoons and into the night around here whenever they are in the fields. You don't want dew (or rain) on the wheat as it begins to mold and spoil almost immediately. I generally see just two combines, a grain hopper pulled by a tractor and one 18-wheeler next door. The grain hopper collects the wheat or other grains from the combines while in motion and goes to the edge of the field to transfer it into the 18-wheeler. It's a lot easier to coordinate the tractor pulled grain hopper with the combines than the big truck. Like Todd pointed out, the combines that operate next door have GPS and are guided in absolute straight lines based on the previous GPS readings when the field is planted.
1662895365088.png

Not my picture.

Smudge -
Seen 15 British Prime Ministers, and 14 US Presidents come and 13 go.
That's what I have seen! All of the Presidents except one were older than me.
I should have used the term "events" instead of BS. I certainly didn't mean to upset our friends across the pond.

Mikey - Sorry to read of the positive test. May you and your wife have mild cases and get well soon.

Everyone have a great day.
