Good 9/11 Morning All. Partly cloudy and 66° here this morning. Surprise! The NWS added a small chance of rain this morning to our forecast. Wonder if it has anything to do with the fact that there are actually some isolated pockets of rain over in the eastern part of our county, about 15 miles from me. It isn't moving in our direction.

Yesterday was "catch up" day on the SFW estate. Laundry and other household chores and then yardwork capped off the afternoon.

No train shed time yesterday, but as promised, a few pictures from our road trip.
Today is at the Will Rogers Gardens. None of the plants were labeled, but they all looked fine. There is an arboretum with Cacti inside and out. Please excuse the other visitor.

Tom O - Combine crews work late afternoons and into the night around here whenever they are in the fields. You don't want dew (or rain) on the wheat as it begins to mold and spoil almost immediately. I generally see just two combines, a grain hopper pulled by a tractor and one 18-wheeler next door. The grain hopper collects the wheat or other grains from the combines while in motion and goes to the edge of the field to transfer it into the 18-wheeler. It's a lot easier to coordinate the tractor pulled grain hopper with the combines than the big truck. Like Todd pointed out, the combines that operate next door have GPS and are guided in absolute straight lines based on the previous GPS readings when the field is planted.

Smudge -

That's what I have seen! All of the Presidents except one were older than me.
I should have used the term "events" instead of BS. I certainly didn't mean to upset our friends across the pond.

Mikey - Sorry to read of the positive test. May you and your wife have mild cases and get well soon.

Everyone have a great day.
You need to get an ariel shot of your house and garden, it looks huge, along with the cacti!

Watching the lights on the Combines and trucks was awesome. I never thought about taking a picture. While I had never seen more then 1 combine at work before watching this blanks of lights moving in unison across the fields was pretty frickin cool. I am aware of the GPS devices guiding much of the farm equipment now a days. Almost every Spring local TV has something on about how farmers use computers and GPS. I know and have seen the inside of the machines that our renter uses to plant his crops. Felt like that little kid again as I remember climbing onto my 1st tractor.

Nice Will Rogers Garden pictures. We enjoyed a stop there a few years ago.

At one time the Earth was tropical, until (as theorized) a meteor hit causing the ice age. Who's to say mother earth isn't adjusting herself back to where it was.
Apparently one decent volcano can do massive damage, several coincide with massive flora fauna fluctuations inc extinctions, far more than us, BUT we are not doing the earth any favours stripping it, no indeed, and worse we have alternative technology that would do less harm. with some many governments all wanting power struggles, this slows reactions and leads to issues, two government almost equal in any country, UK inc causes for serious issues, as they power struggle, it is not a pretty picture.

Good Morning All!
36F in Libby and sunny
76F in Olive Branch and overcast

911 again! Won't ever forget. I was in my computer room in Everett Wa and thought I heard something strange. Went out and checked out the TV. Sound was not on, but the strike of T1 just had happened. Have no idea of how I knew. Watched in horror for some time. Called Maria and went over there and watched more. We both cried and cussed.

Off to McKesson here soon then McKesson in Ruther Glen. Coming back through Louisville ( we think ) as I need a new pigtail for the truck, and hopefully I can get some work done on our Edge. Driveline center bearing is making LOUD noises and you can wiggle it back and forth. Going to remove the driveline and drive it home when the time comes. Got the new driveline when I was home, but the dang thing was to long to fit in the Rav4 ( 80" ), nor did it have any roof rack or tie downs or we would have brought it with when coming back.

36F in Libby? Better order some pellets.

Later

Willie.
I could ask you how long is a piece of string, I have no idea how long "this bs", :mad:as you put it, will go on for, quite a while I would think, after all, who else do you know of has served their country for so long, and is known throughout the world, and is probably one of the most famous people in the current century, if someone said to you "have you ever met The Queen" their are only two, one of which you recently celebrated 50yrs with, so I doubt you would reply "which Queen? would you?

So further to your comment, I suggest you check your local TV listings for future events Re: media coverage of the UK Monarchy.

Just so you know what's likely still to be covered:

Currently on offer, we have the cortege travelling through Scotland to Edinburgh, where it will stay for 24hrs.
The Coffin will then be flown to London, then we will have 4 days of lying in state.
The funeral will be on the 19th.

Upcoming events are:

Coronation of King Charles III

Investiture of Prince William to the title of Prince of Wales.

So if you would like to avoid the "bs" I suggest you plan accordingly.

.
Charles will do a quick tour of the UK visiting dignitaries voted into power, and the family will do events for the public, they do not get time to mourn, they get to work and stand in the public eye whilst media attempts to belittle them.

Absolutely disgusted with the Sunday morning ABC’s Good Morning America. Terry got up turned her TV and because of the weather I am in the room. Lead story, well let’s just say the none of the 1st 40 minutes of GMA was about 9/11 but was about 1 other story. I have had real issues with her GMA fascination the last few years but this definitely is a cake topper. The world changed because of 9/11

So if you would like to avoid the "bs" I suggest you plan accordingly.
I'd rather hear about the Queen. She is if not the greatest lady of my lifetime, certainly top three.
Thank you for your service your Majesty, I miss you already.
That coming from a rouge American with no respect for any crown. She did not demand respect, she earned it!

Besides, the news will be, "now back to blame it all on Joe"

I believe our media only reports what they want their viewers to hear, watch or read...That's all of them regardless what side of the spectrum they pander to, or what medium they use to convey their message. They are all, at least to some extent, controlled by or control the movie industry, and that the majority of the controlling corporations are controlled by private investment groups and wealthy oligarchs, who want things a certain way.

It has only gotten worse, since the financial fiasco of 2008-2010 and the decade where only 1% or less of the population experienced meaningful income growth.

Having said that, I do not know of any way to correct this, and have no faith in politicians who are but lackeys for their large contributors.

Giving wall to wall coverage to the death of a beloved Head of State of a Friendly nation is one thing, ignoring another issue because those who advocated for opening the borders now don't know what to do with all the people that suddenly arrived in their sanctuaries, is another.
I notice that former Mayor of NYC, Bill DiBlasio, and his activist wife, have now left the city, his policies crippled, and has "retired" to somewhere in New England....where no doubt he has found a fenced in estate, isolated from all the rif-raf.

We all need to give some serious thought to who or whom we vote for...and that is across the board.

I have tried to keep this politically neutral, and refrain from name calling. Moderators feel free to delete if you don't believe it is appropriate.
Money / power hungry people have infiltrated our ruling classes, as they always have globally, then attempted to pocket fortunes for themselves and their families, it is not just politicians, we now have dynasties of actors, and there is little care for the little persons, they say any rubbish to get our vote ‘ attention ‘ money and will back track so fast your head spins when something they say does not win the attention they want, back stabbing is universal, down right lying and hypocrisy, our own Uk showing these very traits in the recent Prime Minister run, Labour Conservative. If life was ‘real’ I would be a Liberal Democrat, BUT they spin a line that they never follow which is why they get a lot of attention then bang we realise it is subterfuge and we go elsewhere.
In general that is whyI like this coffee shop, people share their hobby, and add a personality as they discuss the other aspects of their life,we ve moral support even though we can do nothing to help except where one might geographically be able to meet in reallife, and we imagine a better world with care and love in our modelling, and some cheekiness too.

if you have not already….you might wish to scroll past the next bit….

The ‘real’ world is a hard nasty place, losing my Queen who has been a steady rock my whole life, who has stayed out of the political main stream, and her family in general - winces - have suffered the day to day trauma of our modern world, losing her is like losing history, Charles may or not yet forge a place in our hearts, and in this difficult times it won’t be easy, but the woman who tried her best to keep us steered on a steady ship is gone, God help us all.
And sorry I will try to stop droning….

…and back to trains, an older quieter time.

Went to our towns farmer market yest. While there , went through the building that houses artifacts & archive records etc. At this location is also the last standing elevator between Edmonton & the pacific coast. It was bought for $1 & thousands of hrs were spent restoring it. As it stands today, it could be fully functionable in about a wk . Looking at the track , I thought it looked pretty wide gauged. I measured it at 5 feet via my 12 inch shoes. Must be one of two that are close to that measurment. Last time elevator was painted, cost was $ 90000

Morning from overcast Southern CA ... 72 degrees to start and 85 for a high later.
The rain yesterday certainly lowered the temperatures about 20 degrees.
The Fairview Fire close to us was 40% contained as of last night (I have not heard this morning) and the main thrust was heading away from where we are + there really is a lot of open ground that only has brush in the valleys and low areas.

I do not at this time have much of anything to add to the former posts ... I'm just going to wear my 'Regan/Bush 84' CAP for all to see.
I RECEIVE a whole lot of comments when I wear it.

I'm settled into the couch with my beagles ready for the Ravens - Jets opening kickoff. I have my coffee, the hotdogs are in the steamer, nacho cheese in the crock pot and salsa in the fridge. I even have cold beer for my guests.

With the game in NY, I'm looking forward to the pregame show to honor 9/11. That is something I normally don't discuss as it brings sad emotions. This being the anniversary, it is something we all should remember.

God Bless Us Everyone

Play Ball! - I know it's a baseball thing, but I like it!

Just got back from a ride up to the Arlington National Cemetery for a wreath laying ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
Met up with a friend from Texas whose motorcycle club was sponsoring this wreath laying today. They rode up here over the last few days to perform the honors.
Me on the left, Haole on the right.
It was a rainy kind of day. From fine mist to showers off and on. The tomb guard kept his tempo despite the sloppy weather.

9/11/01 - I was sitting at my computer trying to explain to an irate department head why her shutdown was going to cost two million more than expected. The phone rang, it was my wife, asking if I had a TV. She said turn it on, a plane crashed into one of the World Trade buildings. We turned on the TV and watched, asking "how does one not miss a big building", must have been something wrong with the plane. And then the second plane crashed into the other tower. Then we knew it was no accident. Shortly after, reports of a plane into the Pentagon and yet another plane crashed in Pennsylvania. The world changed that day, and not for the better. We must never forget.
Some here in the diner know while I live in Texas, I grew up in New York City. My first full time job was down at the Battery. The company I worked for moved to Tower 1.
