Good afternoon. It's raining and 65.
A few days ago, there was some discussion of Ollie's surplus chain. That is a place my wife loved to go shopping. Today I went there for the first time since she passed away. It was less than totally pleasant, even though most customers are staying home because of the weather. I kept being reminded of my wife the entire time I was there.
I did get a few things I can use in the house, plus what I would consider a treat. Mostly, I got some cleaning supplies, and a huge bag of ripple potato chips. One of the things I got was a family size bag or Oreo cookies, for a bit less than the regular price of a small bag. I thought I could divide them up into "snack size" portions, and have at least a couple of weeks' worth of snacks. After trying the cookies, I decided I underestimated the time it will take to eat them.
They are "Carrot Cake" flavor, instead of the standard Oreo. They aren't very good, and the only thing that keeps them from being terrible, and getting tossed, are the fact they are Oreos. They do taste like carrot cake, though they don't taste like carrot cake, if that makes sense.
While they're edible, I can't recommend them. Which is probably why Oreos were at the surplus store.

Ken - While you're entitled to your opinion, it's not our governor who's policies are allowing this to happen. While Texas is a big state, we're getting 7,000-8,000 illegal immigrants every day, but the mayors of several sanctuary cities are complaining about less than 10,000 total in the last four months. If you're feeling the impact, just think about small towns like Del Rio, Eagle Pass and Laredo. Their morgues are being overwhelmed as well, with 750 deaths by heat and drowning so far this year. That's just what they have found and just on this side of the border. Arizona is having the same problem but on a smaller scale.
Inaction by Congress is as much to blame as executive policies.
Some people are all for "open borders" and allowing a flood of illegals into the country, as long as somebody else has to deal with them. When it becomes Their Problem, you can hear the cursing and gnashing of teeth from 3 states away.

Oreos can be stored in the freezer in airtight Ziplocs. Although some may become brittle. At least that's our experience from the 90's when all three of our kids lived at home.

Hang in there Terry - you will be reminded of your wife for years. I know you miss her and just thinking about her brings tears. Everybody in the same situation goes through this; whether wife, parents or ??? It is a good thing as most folks only remember the good stuff and those memories are what keeps us human.
As to the Carrot Cake Oreo's - geesh.....
Oreo's do not last long enough here to even put in bags and freeze as Willie says! When our youngest was young, she asked me one time if she could have some Oreo's. Sure, I told her. She asked 'how many?' Told her she could have as many as she could grab with ONE hand, and that was it for the day. To this day she still does that at 28Yo. Her hands did get bigger which allows more Oreo's ... which is a good thing right?

Afternoon All,

Started out with a walk, then chores, then ran a coal drag for about 90 minutes requiring truck replacement on 2 hoppers. I also figured out where the PL signals will be placed (next project), but first I need to re-read all the instructions for them since it's been years since the initial install. As a plus all the reverse loops worked as they should. :D

Thank you for the photo likes yesterday.

Chet- Thank you. I follow the forum on my phone but post on my laptop.

Joe- Thank you. It's actually very close to the old one's size. I never looked at Harry and Meghan that way but it makes sense. Also, although I generally like Harry I'm no fan of Meghan. I've wondered how true her tales of mistreatment are? I also agree with your assessment of her.

Smudge- Thanks for the "inside" info you gave us.

TomO- Too bad you didn't get a photo. That would of been neat to see.

Karl- Sorry to hear about the problems with the dog.

Jeff- Good for you. In the past I tried 3 or 4 times and was unsuccessful, but I have no idea about all things computer.

Sherrel- I'm glad it was a nice service and that you dodged the wildfire bullet.

I hope everyone has a good night.

While the death of the Queen is an important event, you would find it hard to believe we aren't subjects, based on the news coverage. Gotta be more news going on than the wall to wall coverage.
The news media is always jumping on something to distract us from real problems, so this is not a surprise. Culturally, the Eastern part of the country is culturally connected to the UK, even to the point where many of our cities, towns and villages are named for locations in England, Scotland and Wales. There are many other connections, too numerous to mention, so It is not unusual for Americans to be interested in the Royals.

Got caught up with the yard. All dethatched, mowed and core aerated.(This was the last section)

This was 3 of 3 trailer loads of dead grass (thatch) that was down at the dirt surface under the grass. The power flow bagger is like a vacuum for the lawn, cleans it right up. Rain tomorrow afternoon and on Monday will green it up.

I believe our media only reports what they want their viewers to hear, watch or read...That's all of them regardless what side of the spectrum they pander to, or what medium they use to convey their message. They are all, at least to some extent, controlled by or control the movie industry, and that the majority of the controlling corporations are controlled by private investment groups and wealthy oligarchs, who want things a certain way.

It has only gotten worse, since the financial fiasco of 2008-2010 and the decade where only 1% or less of the population experienced meaningful income growth.

Having said that, I do not know of any way to correct this, and have no faith in politicians who are but lackeys for their large contributors.

Giving wall to wall coverage to the death of a beloved Head of State of a Friendly nation is one thing, ignoring another issue because those who advocated for opening the borders now don't know what to do with all the people that suddenly arrived in their sanctuaries, is another.
I notice that former Mayor of NYC, Bill DiBlasio, and his activist wife, have now left the city, his policies crippled, and has "retired" to somewhere in New England....where no doubt he has found a fenced in estate, isolated from all the rif-raf.

We all need to give some serious thought to who or whom we vote for...and that is across the board.

I have tried to keep this politically neutral, and refrain from name calling. Moderators feel free to delete if you don't believe it is appropriate.

My point was to point out that there is other news this week besides the Queen and new King.

I think the point of concentrating on HRH and Charles is to distract the US from the worrisome home front problems.

Good morning gang!

59° and overcast, heading to 81° , rain tomorrow.

At work til mid afternoon, then home for a much needed nap.

Making arrangements with the rescue group we got her from to rehome the Husky. She used to not care about the cat, now she wants to eat it. My Border Collie used to be her best friend, now I have had to break up several dog fights. She can't be trusted around the Grandkids (she's nipped at them), and to top it all off wifey got home from work yesterday to find the kitchen tablecloth shredded and her standing on top of the table. Enough is enough!
She has been housebroken since arriving here 2 months ago, and it was hard house training a 1 year old dog, but with helpful cues from the other dog, she got it. 6 weeks of training at Petco also helped with basic commands, but she's still unruly unless you have a treat in your hand. She needs some serious training, and a home without cats and small kids. I give up. She leaves next Saturday. I've never worked with a dog so much and had such disappointing results. It truly sucks.

BBL
Good to hear you took a nap. Twelve plus hour days would wear down anyone.

Sorry to hear about the dog. It was a real act of kindness to try to provide her with a home.
I agree, you must look out for the kids and the cat.
Somebody with a home better suited, no kids, no cats will appreciate all your efforts.

Veers back to the center of the driving lane with squealing tires.
Well, made it down to the club near Richmond, The Virginia Piedmont and Central MRR. Paid my membership and ran some trains while talking members. A very active club with quite a few active members.
Stayed longer than I anticipated so I didn't have time to get up the road to my other club setup at the library in Manassas, VA.
Just had time to come home, get a drink of water then head up to the church to cut the grass in the cemetery.
Now, time to just kick back and watch something on TV for a bit then maybe go do some scenery work on the railroad.

Good afternoon, all. Sort of a lazy day here. Got the mowing done yesterday, along with the dog's bath.
Tomorrow will be the 21st anniversary of the terror attacks on America. Attached is a really awesome video. If you have never seen it, it is well worth your time.

I started the roof on Keystone Mill. Still have a way to go to finish, but I think it will turn out OK.

STAY SAFE
LATER

Managed to get a little more done on the layout, decided to add lights to the other locomotive shed I have (the first one which had the doors) and added some glazing.
Working on a diorama of sorts to go where the (now in the trash) tunnel was, hopefully I'll soon get the few remaining pieces I need and I'll add the fotos to my revamp thread.

Have a goodnite/day everyone
See ya.
