I'm 67 at 13% body fat, I can do 10 dead hang pullups, a 4 minute plank, and bench 1.5x my weight. Life is about choices. It's no-ones business, but their own how they choose to eat.
My entire family on my mother's side, and my grandfather's side of my father's side, are chronically obese. I've been fighting it for decades, but still weigh 180 at 5'5". My breakfast is a breakfast sandwich and a cup of coffee, lunch is a single slice of bread folded in half over 3 thin slices of turkey breast, and a diet soda. Supper is a Healthy Choice microwave meal and a glass of water.
The breakfast sandwich is 410 calories, no real calories in black coffee, the sandwich is 210 calories, and dinner is 280 calories. And I have an active job working 5-6 days a week. If I made the choices I see other people make with their diets, I'd probably weigh 500#...

My thin-sliced chicken breasts have been marinating since 0900. I'm going to make stir fry rice to go along with them and Grand flakey biscuits for dinner tonight.

I don't cook very often indoors and mostly live out of my freezer and microwave. Granted, some of it's pretty good stuff, but nothing beats home made chow. One of these days I'm going to make some chili, NO beans, or some meatloaf.

Genetics play a huge part.

I may be in excellent "physical" shape, but I am cursed with Familial Hypercholesterolemia on both sides of my family. It doesn't matter what or how much/little I eat. Without some type of medication my total cholesterol would be close to 300. It stays around 140-160 on a non-statin med Nexletol (bempedoic acid). I've been keeping my weight around 160# since I retired. It's what I weighed as a freshman in HS. I was up to around 210# when I was powerlifting in my late 20's-early 30's. I'm only 5'8".

I eat pretty clean. Kind of a cross between Keto & Carnivore and try to grow most of my veggies 8 months out of the year. I don't deny myself anything and I will have a little ice cream or even a piece of pizza every once in a while. We're all going to die. I just enjoy life in moderation.

I've pretty much given up Bourbon, but I still enjoy a good pilsner.

We are back from breakfast out. Went to a place that closed 10/25 as owners were in their late 70’s and none of the family wanted it. Just the property. We knew that. Until looking for a place to go this morning I noticed it was open again. Turns out 3/2026 it re-opened as the cook purchased it as a contract loan. Heard all about it this morning.

Family drama is everywhere! Retiring owners kids wanted it closed to sell the property it’s on. Retiring owners wanted the business to continue so did a land contract with the cook and retiring owners then took out an insurance policy that pays off the land contract if either of them pass.

The food was excellent and as usual more than 1/2 of mine came home

Badger volleyball on TV at noon and Packers at 3:25.

Text from the son in law. 1st hockey game is over 6-1. Brooks had 4 assists and a goal his 1st game as a Bantam

Has far as eating goes, I listen to what my doctors tell me I should be eating. They tell me if I don't listen to what there's telling me I won't be around that much longer. The other reason I watch what I eat is, I like 2 girls who are both real old and look great. This is what drives me eating habits The doctors and the girls. Swal

There is more than what you eat and how much you exercise to how your body is built. The only bone thin person in my family is the niece that has Crohn's disease. Both of my sisters are on the GLP-1 shots. Neither is a swimsuit model after two years of it. Genetics has a lot to do with weight.

I'm (none of your business) pounds and near my top end of the weight history. This summer had a lot to do with that.

This summer was going to be one of exercise. doubling my walk distance. I'm not a gym rat, and hate gyms. I hate the Jock culture. Too many years of being bullied in that environment.

As I've aged, I've already reduced portions.

Back to what this summer was supposed to be: more exercise. However, the angry jelly that fled from my herniated disk in July had other plans. Two months of severely reduced activity took their toll, and added some pounds. Only about 10 at last measure. But it's 10 more I need to lose.

And when I'm in pain, I want comfort food. Not portioned-controlled rabbit food. Or starvation.

Just because I post a pic of an entire 12 or 14 inch pizza doesn't mean I eat my half. (Share with the wife) We usually get two meals each out of one pizza.

There are meals I don't post pics of. EG: Today, I had a 6oz sirloin, broccoli, and some fries for lunch. Often we have burgers or steaks or chicken breasts off the grill, usually with steamed sweet taters and a slice of cornbread.

My wife and I eat about the same amount every evening. She's less than half my weight. Skinny runs in her family.

Genetics matter.

My goal isn't to be skinny.

It's to be healthy.

I've just finished the book "Younger Forever" - it's a lot less preachy than the Younger Next Year that initially kicked off the series. I gave up on the first book (Younger Next Year) because of the way it preached instead of helped to encourage.

If you haven't watched "The Blue Zone" on Netflix, it's well worth the watch. They look at the 5 areas//cities in the world with the highest number of centenarians and what they do that's different. My mom (93) watched it and she was surprised that her lifestyle was very similar to what people do in Sardinia and Okinawa.

Thanks. Saw it after you??? mentioned it a year or so ago.

And, I've got the book.

But, to show how my life has gone recently, after making my post above, I went for my afternoon walk.

Stopped at the bottom of an uphill section (I was in the drive lane) to let a couple coming down the walking path have first go. Once they passed, I stepped forward with my right foot, then my left (the one with sciatic issues) and my hiking pole. I typically carry it like I should with a cane. In my "good" hand. But my left foot found a divot hidden by some grass at the edge of the walking path.

My ankle twisted toward the outside, and I went down. Second time in two weeks.

The couple turned to help. I was gruff because I was very embarrassed. So I took off walking.

Left ankle has reduced feeling due to the sciatic issues. Nothing broken, everything functions. As I walked, I realized the right knee was skinned. Behind the jeans. The cloth wasn't damaged. So short cut back home. Alcohol wash to the knee. A seeping raspberry of a skin, more on the shin where it caught the edge of paved path. Antibiotic ointment applied. Gauze taped on.

I'm in my chair. I'll be alternating the ice wrap between my ankle and my knee.

The downside is I go to see the orthopedic spine care doc on Wed. He's going to push to get me in for surgery to snip off the bit of angry jelly pressing on my spine. I can't really say no after this.

Problem, it can't be local due to my stupid insurance. I HAVE to use the ortho surgery team down in Indianapolis. 2.5 hour drive away. Oh Joy.

I know one thing they all say, processed foods will kill you. My doctors told me this long ago and I didn't listen. He told me to start cooking your own meals with unprocessed ingredients. After prostate cancer and my wife died mainly of organ failure, I started listing. Everything changed for me. I started walking 3 miles every morning before eating to get rid of the visceral fat that wraps around your organs. This will also kill you. The best way to get rid of visceral fat is walking. If I have anything with sugar as the main ingredient, I do some hard work because they say your body uses up the sugar in your blood stream first. It all about how long you want to live and how you look while you're alive. If you're not concerned about how your wife or girlfriend views you and you're not concerned about your health, then you can eat whatever you please. Swal

I stopped reading Younger Next Year because it was preachy.

I enjoyed Blue Zones, and the Younger Forever books because they weren't preachy.

Your milage may vary.
