I almost forgot,

Happy Thanksgiving!

about the height:
yes those trees are big, but they are more or less to real scale. the "normal" trees you buy from the big names, aare mostly shrinked and not true to scale (in my opinion).

I think that is an accurate statement. I've seen some very large/tall trees along the RhB, and nothing I've seen in HO comes close to the height of these trees.

I used O scale trees in many areas of my layout and I think they look great.

One of the few decisions 1st with Charlie Munger and Warren Buffet and now Craig Abel of Berkshire Hathaway that I disagreed with. Total missed opportunity for BNSF to have purchased or merged with NS. Even now Berkshire is saying no to adding CSX to the fold. The total ease of traffic moving coast to coast totally outweighs what opponents have come up with. Just bypassing the Chicago corridor for any railroad going coast to coast is worth it.

Not sure why railroads are being treated any differently than how easy it is to buy or merge US airlines? Airlines are much more monopolistic than railroads ever will be. The cost of flying has been drastically affected by mergers over the last 12 years. Restrict a route to competition and watch the ticket prices. Of course most Congressmen, Senators and staff either fly reduce tickets or free. There are no free rides on the railroads for them. Just saying
Your points are right on. (Of course, when the shoe is on the other foot...).

Railroads are still suffering for the shenanigans of the 19th Century, and the total arrogance they convey to the public. (Even when something is not their fault).
Airlines were the corporate darlings of the Post WW2 Era, flush with subsidies and use of publicly owned facilities. Railroads were dismissed as a bunch of whiners.
That still holds.

Ad from an Ottawa supermarket chain, as heard on the Senators game recently: Frozen whole turkeys for $1.99 on October 14.
How could you of all people forget Thanksgiving Day in Canada. eh?

Never heard that phrase for them but its defiantly fitting, especially if my stuff goes thru Chicago.

If it routes to St, Louis its usually next day.
Well, one of the packages has now gone through Dallas/Ft. Worth. I thought once they left O'hare, they'd be coming here. I guess somebody's grandma or brother in law needed to charge some bail out hours.

Good morning all. Up at 0400 today for whatever reason. Speaking of mail, I should be receiving two packages from Marco's side of the planet - an OO scale 0-6-0 steamer and a whole bunch of painted crew for a lot of my ghost trains. Only 11 days. Would have been less if not for the long weekend.

Beat that Un-Supervised Payout Sharing!!

Another thing I need to sink my teeth into, I better get that molar fixed before it breaks up more. I just had a sliver break off just now. I shouldn't have any crunchies in my mouth from drinking coffee! I saved the sliver. Maybe the dentist can grind it up, mix it up with epoxy and use it as a filler when hot gluing on that cap that fell off earlier.

I don't remember what Thanksgiving day was for, but if related to the harvest, it makes sense that Canada celebrate it earlier. Do they stuff the bird with poutine? If so, that sounds like something I would eat.

Well, have a good day and good to see all made it home or are traveling safely.

Good evening folks, hope you are all doing well. We've had a fine day here so far, heading out in a few minutes for dinner with family here in town. Good local place with excellent service usually [hope I didn't just jinx that]. Earlier went for some errands, still 92 out, got the van washed and picked up a few things at Walmart. Hopefully I am over the bug I picked up, I seem to have it on the run anyway. The ongoing sorting continues in the train room, almost to the point of being able to get the new desk assembled and put in there.
You guys have a great night, God bless!

Good evening gang!

Why is everyone hating on USPS now? UPS in our area is far worse. No matter the package, they wont leave it on the porch, Even though someone is home every 4 -5 hours because of the dogs. Any UPS packages can be routed to a nearby to my job for a small fee. (like 5 bucks). Fedex and USPS will leave stuff either right on the porch or against the garage door, both of which have video cameras.
UPS has to be difficult. All in the name of security I was told. It seems to me it's all about ponying up a few extra bucks to pick up your package. After all, only once have they asked for ID when picking up a package. I guess dead Presidents is all the photo ID I need.

If you really want me to go off on a gubmint entity, don't get me started on VDOT. The bi monthly trips to North Carolina are pleasant down through Maryland, and mostly around D.C., but Virginia is its own brand of torture. From digital speed limit signs they switch from 70 to 60, to 55, to 40 mph on Rt 95 (for no known reason) to signage on 295 (the Richmond bypass) that states rough road, next 6 miles, and they are not joking. 1 dip in the road almost bottomed out my pick up! What are they smoking! From the Woodrow Wilson bridge to Roanoke Rapids the road has far too few lanes for the traffic, plus the road feels like it was made for Conestoga wagons. Cross into N.C. and the world is right again. VDOT sucks!

Got that off my chest, I feel better now!

I found one of these in HO scale, I hope to close the deal on it soon!

For those who shop on Fakebook Marketplace..........from Malwarebytes

Facebook users are reporting receiving a message with a fake Facebook Marketplace listing that has their name as the seller.

It works like this. You receive a message (in this case iMessage) asking “Is this still available for purchase?” Attached to the message is a fabricated Facebook Marketplace listing.
Tapping on the picture, you might notice that the seller’s name is the same as your name. This is known as a conversation lure, adding legitimacy to a message and giving you an additional reason to reply.
Interestingly in the example we received, even though the name of the seller matched the person who received the message, the profile picture did not. When I researched the profile picture, it turned out that it belongs to another Facebook user with the exact same name.

This likely means the attacker had a phone number associated with a name that they used to create the fake Marketplace listing. Receiving a message like that is very likely to provoke the natural corrective response: “That isn’t me.” Such a message will probably have a lot of receivers think that they are being impersonated by a scammer on Marketplace.

This method of approach may seem like a lot of work with a low chance of success, and this would have been true a few years ago. But with an AI agent and a list of matching names and phone numbers from a breach, this can be done relatively easy at scale. And that changes the return on time invested dramatically.

The name and phone number combination could come from any number of data breaches. On the dark web, cybercriminals buy and sell personal data for such purposes.
“For less than the cost of a cup of coffee, a cybercriminal can buy enough information to devastate someone’s financial life.”
The personalized screenshot would work very well as a reply trigger. Its psychological function is well thought out and likely very effective: it combines curiosity, reputational concern, and the recipient’s impulse to correct an apparent mistake.

But when you reply to a phishing text you are telling a scammer that this is a live number. Your phone number then increases in value for the scammer and can be resold to other scammers. Or it can be used in other cybercrimes, to download malware, to begin a relationship that leads to fraud, to take over your Facebook account, or many other reasons.

Beware my friends....John

I noticed an email from Iron Planet stating they shipped my order and provided links to track that order. Problem is that I already received both shipped order emails and this last one had a new order number. Luckily, I didn't click on the tracking and went directly to their website to check. Then I went back to the email and saw that it had an .xyz domain. deleted it.

Scammers everywhere. May they all rot.

How's Everybody doing, eh?
(a little Boomer intro for y'all)

I crashed hard last night about 8p... laying on the couch for 15 minutes to see if a 15 minute nap could give me a second wind. About 9p I woke and stumbled up to bed.
Awake at 2 am brain fully awake.

Last nasty day of summer today. I was lying in bed thinking I should put the AC vent in the window for tonight, just to keep our upstairs cool enough to sleep.

Spent some of yesterday watching boomer. I like his water method.... BUT I cannot find GAC 500 anywhere. Turns out it's discontinued by Golden.

GAC 800 is a thinner variety according to the AI overlords.

He's mixed the Soft Gel Semi-gloss with the GAC medium, and sponging it on over his sponge-stippled effects to simulate the river where his barge and ramp sit.
Full vid here.

This looks sooooo much easier, and less messy than with resin pours.

Now, I'm curious how Tom O will do his waterfall?
