Running Bear's October 2026 Coffee Shop

ModelRailroadForums.com is a free Model Railroad Discussion Forum and photo gallery. We cover all scales and sizes of model railroads. Online since 2002, it's one of the oldest and largest model railroad forums on the web. Whether you're a master model railroader or just getting started, you'll find something of interest here.

I bought another BLI "Bullmoose" loco from an individual on the buy/sell/trade forum. He had four brand new Stealth units at $550.00 each. I purchased a different road number than the one I already have hoping to double head the units. Two days ago he said he accidently sent the wrong road number and would this be ok with me. I said no as the one he sent is the same number as the one I have. So..........he said he would send the correct loco the next day and he will send me a return postage label for the one I will be returning. The wrong unit is supposed to arrive next Tuesday via UPS. Man, sometimes you just can't win, but he is making it right and paying for the extra postage. I guess I should not gripe considering the selling price.

We're getting remnant moisture from "tropical storm Rachel" and it's supposed to rain 2-4" this weekend and continue a few more days, though today the rain has been minimal. A few downpours that didn't last too long. We'll see how it works out.

I did go and caulk around a window frame in the basement wall (to a walkout area behind the house dug out after the house was built). The concrete underneath the window frame had broken down a little.

And we have a leak on a large replacement window wall on the main floor, though after looking at it from the outside, and the caulking with silicone that the window company came back and did a few times, I don't think its actually leaking around the window. I did place a big strip of tape along the top of the window as a test, but I noticed some places that maybe some water is leaking underneath the roof end where the gutter is. I placed some tape over where it looked like it might leak in as a test. We'll see if it rains enough to try and leak

Good morning, Coffee Shop!
It's Sunday, 59°F (15°C) and cloudy in Tipton.

Have a great day! ;)

51°F out there with clear skies this morning. We had a couple bands of clouds from the hurricane move through here, but no precipitation at all. No wind either.

Supposed to be 88°F in the city today so summer continues to hang on, and is more like late August here instead of October. Pretty soon München will be moving Oktoberfest back to October where it originally was held when started.

Nothing going on here and I'm still supposed to be taking it easy for several more days. So taking it easy it shall be.

Have a great Sunday.

Servus!

Good morning. It's 78 with scattered squalls.

In case anybody has forgotten, when Windoze updates itself, it will change all your settings back to the default Microsoft options. You will need to go back into your settings and change everything back to the way you had them before the update. I'd forgotten, and just experienced this today.

I noticed this morning as I was perusing our favorite auction site, then manufacturers' sites, that everything available in steam right now seems to be 4-8-4 or larger. I have all of those I need, and was looking to pick up a couple of Mikado types for the layout. I was able to find a handful of 4-8-2's, but they were more expensive than some of the big articulateds. While I technically "could" use bigger stuff for locals and switching, the number of real railroads that did that, and the very limited scenarios when they really did, are so small as to be irrelevant. That, and trying to get an FEF-3 to negotiate a #4 turnout is an exercise in frustration, plus it looks ridiculous even making the attempt.

Good Morning All, again from Galveston Island TX, where it is clear and 79°. Back home it's clear and 64°.

Headed out today for the trip home. While it is a couple of days early, it is a day less on the road. We're only 5 or so hours away from my bed, my bathroom and my desktop! Why does every hotel and condo have a different setup for hot and cold water in the shower??? And why can't any of them match what I have at home?
Despite all of my original trip planning to avoid rush hours in Dallas, and all across Louisiana and Mobile AL, I have a potential snag going north from Dallas to home; caused by the traffic on IH-35 from the Oklahoma folks returning home from the Texas/OU game. Added to that, they are all college age folks who have been drinking in Dallas all day and will then be in a rush to get home! I've experienced this traffic in the past. Denton County will have a Sheriff about every 3-4 miles.

Been looking out our hotel window, we're on the 9th floor, we have been able to watch the line of ships queued along the horizon to enter the Houston ship channel a few miles east of here. Almost all are empty tankers waiting to get in and get loaded. There's an occasional container ship among them. They're along the horizon about three miles out.
The electrician's convention next door ended Friday, and the convention center and our hotel has been invaded by the NPC Muscle Beach Classic, and there are bodybuilders everywhere. The body shape has changed from big guts to big shoulders!

Train shed this afternoon!!!:):):)

Musical birthdays today include Daryl Hall (Hall & Oates) is 80 today; as well as drummer Gary Mallaber of Steve Miller Band fame, who is also 80. The late Marshall Tucker Band guitarist George McCorkle, was born on this day in 1947. He died from cancer in 2007.

Gotta go now, see y'all later from home sweet home. Everybody have a great Sunday.

Good morning from our Great River Road trip in Wisconsin. We are in a AIrB&B in Prescott, Wisconsin. A slow drive west over to Prairie du Chein from home and north on 35 to Prescott. The tree color change is what we came for along the Mississippi River and it’s been beautiful. We are not sure how to turn to return home. Lots of choices but no Interstates or 4 lane highways.

Enjoy the day
