How Railroad Crossings Work

Just got back from Baltimore area and the teain show. Went with about $25 to spend, sold some stuff and came back with $85, that's after buying very...cheaply. this 0 gauge plastic Rivarossi model was basically a steal at $10. I'd like to see if i cam make metal wheel rims for the drivers.View attachment 245375View attachment 245376View attachment 245380
I remember way back, there was a motorizing kit available for that engine. It had everything you needed to make that 0-8-0 an operating engine.

Good morning all!

Should be a decent day weather wise. Currently 46F heading up to a high of 62F. Perfect leaf collecting day if most of them weren't still
on trees. Hoping with the first frost last Friday that starts the process in earnest.

Pretty much a hang around the house day. Do have a few things to do.

Have a safe day everyone!

Hello from a person in mourning. I lost the history from my interaction with ChatGPT yesterday! On Thursday I tried for the 1st time using a free Ai program app on my DuckDuckgo browsers. So I tried it and enjoyed the interaction. On Friday night I decided to try the free version of ChatGPT where the interaction was even more excellent and the writing style fit more with my image of how I wanted to create projects. So I tested it out. Loved it

Saturday morning I started a paper mill design project deep data search. I am in the process of now building a large paper mill complex on a friends layout. Based on what he wanted, my decent knowledge of Wisconsin paper mills I wanted data to justify the model based on real data, basically daily tonnage numbers of the finished project shipped daily. Based on some numbers I plugged into ChatGPT we came up with a project called “1965 era PNW paper mill”. Information gathered from the Crown Zellerbach paper mill in 1965 Everett, Washington. Using the data we developed the car movements across the plant, diagrams, flow charts the whole 9 yards and I was impressed. The Ai created PDF files of each section discussed and I forwarded a few (thankfully) to my friend via text for his review, insight and approval. Those are the only info remaining from yesterday’s endeavor. ChatGPT and I will try to recreate from there. Unfortunately it won’t be the same. I enjoyed the work yesterday, today or whenever I return to it will be a chore, OH WELL!

I now know how to save the chats because they are not automatically saved in the free version. I will use the free as I don’t have the need to spend $19.99 per month

Hockey at 2 on campus today. Good game yesterday a 4-0 win but lost another star player. They are a deeply talented squad but injuries are tough for any team to overcome. Dinner Monday night with coach might be interesting

Be well

Good morning folks.

51°F and cloudy with rain starting in about an hour, for the rest of the day. High of 58°F. It rained some last evening and was still raining when I went to bed last night, but it was all light showers. Much like it's going to be all day today.

My nephew stopped by for a visit yesterday. We just chatted for a few hours and then he had to meet a friend.

I'll be running trains today for certain. Nothing else going on today.

Have a safe day everyone. Servus!

There was actually a station and yard along the PRR/PC Trenton Branch, (AKA Trenton cutoff), called Earnest. It was just outside of Norristown, PA. There was an auto terminal transload facility where they unloaded multi-levels destined for the Metro Philly area.
I'll bet the leaves are coming down there. ;)

For those who observe, today, is the 20th Sunday after Pentecost. Advent begins in Five weeks. Where did 2025 go?

Enjoy the sports on TV, and have a great Sunday.

So Earnest yard is not used anymore?

Good Morning All. Foggy and 55° here on the SFW estate. Mid-70's for a couple of days, then a severe norther blows in on Tuesday with 25+ mph winds and lows in the upper 30's. Typical for Halloween in this area. I remember Trick or Treating and shivering under thin costumes as a kid in Dallas. Then it warms up again on Saturday.

Rest and relaxation today. It will be perfect outside for just walking around observing Mother Nature around the place and up and down the road. While I found 4.5" in the rain gauge, all of which fell Friday and early Saturday, there's no signs that it was real heavy rain at any time. No puddles in the usual spots, no downed tree limbs and no runoff into my pond. I'm sure that the farmer who leases the land across the easement road south of me appreciates it, as he planted 100 acres of wheat on the Wednesday before we left.

I haven't had the time yet to review all of the pictures that I took on our vacation, so stay tuned for some of them during the next week or two. I did spend some quality time out in the train shed last evening, all of the towns' residents are doing well. Some engineers got back to work but nothing serious. I randomly picked out a new workbench project for the next day or so. It's a Walther's Mainline GP9U that my granddaughter picked out for my daughter to give me for Father's Day. It's not a real smooth runner but I believe that it can be fixed. Maybe just needs a break-in period. I had finished up the quarterly clean-up project a few days before I left town.

Additional observations regarding my trip. I posted the other day about drivers in Louisiana meandering from lane to lane without signaling and driving slow in the LH lane. But worse are the drivers in Alabama. There, running red lights seems to be routine. We saw it happening in Gulf Shores and other surrounding coastal cities frequently. Again in Mobile where we were transitioning from Interstate to US highway. In Mississippi, it wasn't the drivers, but the state apparently ran out of money and there is a definite lack of road information signs, even on the Interstate.
Some catching up to do:
David - More prayers and best wishes for your grandson.
Louis - As a kid, we didn't eat TV dinners. After I got married, my wife and I ate a few, (some quite tasty), until we looked at the ingredients and freaked out at the amount of salt, sugar, artificial flavoring and preservatives in them. From there, I started looking at other prepared foods and decided to do organic gardening for as much of my food supply as possible; a hobby that I still have 50 years later. Hopefully, consumers have urged the manufacturers of those products to reduce the amount of additives, to provide a more healthy food choice since then.
Re: Showing up at Amazon and getting paid. At my urging, management at the place that I worked at for 43 years, began to hire folks to gradually replace me as I neared retirement. It soon got to a point where there was nothing left for me to do, so I was just showing up and drawing a check. I did do some project management but it soon got to be quite boring to come in. Management didn't even know if I was even there most days unless I made it a point to go by and greet them. Eventually I figured out how to log in to my computer from home and send memos and files and they thought that I was really there! I finally just decided to retire at 63, rather than to waste my time just showing up. Never looked back.
Michael - When I burned large piles of brush, I always called the local VFD. They would sometimes come out with newer volunteers and practice "ember control" training with them. Fortunately I never had issues with the burns even without them.
Mike - There's absolutely "no place like home". My bed is the most comfortable, my shower head is just the way that I like it, I'm used to the taller toilet and I can be in my normal routine. No musing about I wish that I had brought that with me and I always miss my 23" computer monitor.
Troy - Memphis is known for music. Whether your wife likes music or not, tours in either Sun Studios or Stax Records are very interesting even to non-music persons.
Tom O - Yep! I was packed and ready to go in less than 5 minutes. My wife spent almost 40 minutes getting all of her paraphernalia ready. And then, she left her personal pillow in the hotel room and now has to buy a new one. Second time in two years! We have lots of others here at home, but she wants another "My Pillow".

Everybody have a great Sunday.

Willie - I thought my wife was the only one that needed "their" pillow. Space constraints forced her to only bring the satin pillow cases on the cruise. Like you, I can be packed in a moments notice. My dear wife takes a day to figure out what to wear each day and for each weather condition. She actually did real well packing for the cruise and got everything in one medium suitcase, for 10 days.

Once we returned home we realized what a comfortable bed we really have. We thought we bypassed getting sick, with all the air travel and packed into sub ways, but the day after we returned we both had a minor virus. 3-4 days and we are pretty much back to normal.

Our time in the mountains taught me a few lessons about burn piles. One almost got out of control, but only singed some cedars. Lesson learned about fire size and wind.
