Banquet Fried Chicken
Karl, I still love to buy this,

It's not KFC's Fried Chicken, but it is good!

And it is a good reason to turn on the oven on a chilly day.

Good morning, Everybody!

It is a typical fall morning, 41 with cloudy skies here in southeast Baltimore. Another morning, we showed up at Amazon to find they had nothing ready to send out. I'll get spoiled if they keep paying me just to show up.

It is 70 at my desk and we still haven't needed to turn on the heat! I turned on the electric fireplace in the living room for few minutes. The temperature in the living room dropped to 66 and that is unacceptable! My back will "talk to me" if I let the temperature drop below 68.

I had a busy (for me) day yesterday checking off trivial things on the to-do list. Everything must get done so it all counts. I'll continue along with more of those trivial tasks today.

Yesterday's World Series game was disappointing. Not that I care who wins, I just want to see some good baseball. Oh well, it's only the first game, a lot can happen before it is over. Three days between MLB games gave me a chance to catch up on the NFL and check on the hockey standings. I don't know 💩 about hockey, but it is fun to watch! Go Capitals! In NBA news the Washington Wizards are 1-1. Of the 28 NBA games played so far only two teams were held to under 100 points. Defense become a lost art in the NBA. Which is why I have all but lost interest in the game.

It's time to get back to my to-do list.

Have an enjoyable day Everybody!

Good morning folks.

54°F and a light passing shower this morning. Going to be coudy and 60°F today with rain moving in for most of tomorrow. 70% chance is what their Magic 8 Ball says.

Yesterday after getting back from the package store, I decided to burn a brush pile I've been collecting for the last two years. Sticks, limbs, dead branches that have fallen from my trees accumulated a pile taller than me and 4' across. It took about two hours to burn it in small batches so I didn't set the neighborhood aflame. That pile is all ashes now and I'm going to spread the ashes around to help the grass over the winter and allow the now bald burned patch to regrow.

I have a regular burn pile I use where all of this accumulated, but it was much too large of a pile to burn all at once. I started a much smaller fire some ways from the brush and kept adding to it over a two hour period.

My back and legs are feeling it this morning, but not too badly. I was surprised I woke at 0515 after working like that yesterday.

The postman has just delivered a book from The Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway Society of which I am a member.
It is about L&YR railway carriages.
In it are pictures of a Pennsylvania carriage, New York & Hudson Railway Carriage and Coeur D'Alene & Spokane Railway carriage.

Apparently some L&YR Directors visited America and took ideas back to use in their rolling stock.

Good morning Crew from a cool and dark Saturday morning in Wisconsin. 33f degrees now 53 later. Are we predicted to get rain? Well yes and no. A portion of the WeatherChannel app says no rain expected. Scrolling across the page is a notice rain is expected at 7:15. Since that is a few minutes from now I will find out soon.

We will be on campus for a Badger Women hockey game at 2pm. They are ranked #1 and are the defending NCAA champions. Even though they won convincingly last weekend they will play for awhile without 2 of the stars. They were the #1 and #3 goal scorers in the nation last year and will be on the Olympic squad again in February. Both are now hurt. Hockey is a great sport but it’s a tough one to play

Other than that my day is free especially if it rains as the outdoor furniture should now be put away. I see no 60+ temperatures in the 30 day forecast but lots of overnights in the 20’s.

Be well

Good Morning All. Cloudy and 60° here in West Monroe LA. Back home it's also cloudy but 64°. Should be in the mid-70's by the time that we get there. Flash flood watch has been lifted back home, but one has been issued for the area between here and Shreveport. Best that I can tell, around 3" of rain fell at home. The rain gauge at the Weather Underground station around the corner, obviously failed as it shows 0". Brief glimpses of the radar there indicated otherwise. I'll know this afternoon.
We'll be driving through this storm system most likely when we're in the Shreveport area. I would prefer to be on the Texas side of the border when we encounter it because that 150 mile stretch of highway was all repaved over the last two years, and is completed. The Louisiana side of IH-20 is OK, but there are some rough spots and I don't know about drainage here.
I'm ready to go but my wife isn't ready yet. When I stay in a hotel, I don't unpack, she moves in! I'm headed down to the complimentary breakfast in a couple of minutes; so I have to go now.
Everybody have a safe and great Saturday.

Good morning all!

Kind of a cloudy dreary day out there this morning. Currently 38F heading up to a high of only 53. Radar shows some rain
in the area but our chances are pretty slim,

No big plans for today. Weekly grocery run and some laundry.

Daughter is heading to a haunted hay rack ride later this afternoon so the wife and I are on our own for dinner, We are thinking
Mexican since my daughter doesn't care for it and its our opportunity to have it.

Train time is a definite tonight!

Have a safe day everyone!

As much as I love going away, the best part is being home and back in your own bed and routine.

Again, Safe travels!

. When I stay in a hotel, I don't unpack, she moves in!
I feel your pain! I have a teenage daughter added to the mix. I end up hauling it all up and most of it don't get used.

I can get away with a small duffel bag for a one night stay.

Well, howdy there internet peeps and those waiting on their spouses

It's Troy again

Wife gave me a choice of burgers or Giordanos pizza. guess which I chose?

Today will be a day of taking down the awning, and putting up some shelves in the garage to better organize my BBQ stuff. And, I need to move the grills to their winter locations. I like having them up near the condo building, not along the fence. Can't keep them in their winter spot all year, because the wife's glider she sits in twice a year goes in one of those spots. And the pile of snow from clearing a path between the condo and the garage goes where the grills currently are.

Other than that, I'm trying to figure out how to get the wife involved in a trip to attend a gaming event for my toy soldiers: Memphis TN in mid/late June. Shiloh Battlefield is a stop on the way, about 2 hours away.

BUT, what to do in Memphis while I'm gaming.
She's not really into the music scene. But give her a wooded park with hiking trails and she'll be like a wood-sprite faerie, and difficult to remove from the trees.

I might have to see if there are any cabins in the state parks nearby we can rent, and I just drive into Memphis over the weekend for the gaming...

David: The CDA & Spokane Railway was a short branch from Spo to CDA and was electrified for awhile. Don't know when the wire came down. Mostly for those folks that needed cooling off and partying at the lake. Was a branch off the MILW that ran through the Spo Valley 25ish miles to the Lake. At this time there was nothing between Spokane Valley and CDA, now days all asfault with housing and shopping. The carriage you saw look something like this:
card00534_fr.jpg

I am not all aware of everything with this as there is not much that comes up with the searches and it is way before my time. Mom got to ride at some point or another. Anyway, NP acquired the line, as did Spokane International in that time frame sometime. UP was the final owner as they acquired it all sometime around the BN merger. There were many names of the branch: Spokane Falls & Northern, Spokane Falls and Inland, Spokane and Inland Empire Railroad .. the list goes on. They would run for awhile, go broke, then a new name happened...rinse and repeat. The best known was the MILW Hiawatha Route ( Now a walking/bike trail ) which did not go into CDA, but South at Argonne and Sprague in Spo Valley. The small Station is still there but now is a fruit stand. All of the CDA&Spo track is gone, but the RoW is still there in places. The xMILW UP still goes South to Plummer, then it used to go over Mulan Pass, but now a branch to St Maries Idaho ( St Maries Railroad ) which is still [somewhat] in operation. Also, the NP also went over Mullan Pass to Misoulla, but that changed and it went toward Missoula out of Sandpoint ID, lower than the GN Highline.

Note all of my brain cells may or may not have been swimming in the same direction on the above, probably good as a general start. The Milwaukee Historical Society probably would be a better reference.

Hope that was not information overload!

So did I.

The picture I have (in the book) is a Spokane carriage photographed at the works of J.G. Brill.

The NYC Central & Hudson River picture is of one of two 80ft wooden carriages built for the 1893 Chicago World's Fair.

I shall contact The L&YR Society and ask if I can post pictures on here. I don't want any copyright challenges.
David On this side of the pond, all ya have to do is 'quote the source' of the pix. Over there YMMV.
