I tell my grandchildren short stories of travels Dawn and I have taken. Most are of travels by sea. Some are of travelling in a road haulage vehicle to Liverpool or Hull or Newcastle.

"Why did I choose to work in Road Haulage and not Shipping?" asked oldest grandson.
"Just followed family footsteps," I replied. " I was taught from the age of six to operate the family business. "

"Learn as much as possible. Even stuff that may be out of date, so you realise what people went through to be here now. Keep learning otherwise you 'fall behind'. In the future you can tell stories of the past.

good morning!

We have INTERNET again. No more typing on the iPad's screen keyboard.

Coffee levels are loading after a slumber in the chair with the cat..

The basement is finally cooling off with the shift in weather. While ground temp is still warm, the autumn blustery day has started the chill effect.

It's still going to be Pooh-bear levels of blustery today. So my plan to put away the patio furniture and take down the canopy will have to wait a few days.

More later as the day unfolds

Good morning all

Happy Hump Day!

A very windy day out there, it howled most of the day yesterday and last night. Currently 41F but with the wind it feels like 21F. Only
supposed to get to 51F. Frost warnings are up for tonight. Fall is defiantly arrived!

A few things to do around the house today. Usual laundry load, dishwasher and some light vacuuming.

Volleyball was a win last night in 2 sets. No game tonight so train time.

Have a safe day everyone!

Morning all,

Getting sick and tired of being sick and tired! Been waking up at 11:30p and again at about 2:00a and not being able to get back to sleep. Didn't help last night when out IT tech texted at 1:50a this morning that the airlines were delayed and he and his wife had just gotten into Wichita 6 hours later than they were supposed to, and he wasn't coming in today.

Got 2 vendor fixing stuff meetings and then whatever stuff others break during the day.

Try to BBL.

Beverage of choice on me today.

Good morning all.

45°F here, won't be long until we have frost at this time.

Didn't get to the filter or move my table yesterday, so maybe today.

You know you can tether your laptop or computer to your iPad for an internet connection on the cellular network, right?

Have a good Wednesday folks. Servus!

Yes, but at 3am, it wasn't worth the effort.

At 6pm, when they said it would be restored by 8:30, it wasn't worth the effort.

Nothing lengthy I really needed to type at those hours.

Good morning Crew.

Cellular phones. Got my 1st Motorola bag phone in 1989. Then a few Nokia flip phones. I think 2009/10 got my 1st IPhone and have usually kept them a few years before replacing. I have had IPhones ever since. I buy them outright. I don’t need a new one every time Apple decides it time to milk the crowd again. Our daughter who is smart just doesn’t understand there is a cost to a new free phone every year but she and millions of others is who makes Apple profitable

Went to the movies yesterday afternoon. After the Hunt starring Julia Roberts who did not smile once in the 2:18 minutes of trying to stay awake, but I did! The storyline was very believable but the way it was filmed (very dark background) and the slowness of the movie left a lot to be desired. I’m not recommending it. Terry knew I was having issues staying awake and in the car to our next destination Kohl’s, she said. “We probably should have fooled around to make it go faster”.

I am meeting the Weedman sometimes this morning. They are a lawn fertilizer company. I always fill out the survey after each service. Towards the end of last season and every service this season I complained the weeds are very noticeable between the sidewalk and curb. This last time instead of saying yes I’ll be back next season I said no I was looking for another outfit to service the lawn. They will be here to try to save the job, but doubtful. Owned this house since 2007 as a rental and from 2013 till now it served as our business office and since 2/2024 our home. I’ve seen this grass be lush to now it’s weedy. It doesn’t have to be perfect but some of these weeds are strong ugly guys

I am this afternoon going to look at a new Volkswagen. Our sales guy called Terry Monday and gave her a stupid high offer for my trade. We shall see. Because I can drive with no restrictions again we are thinking about a 2nd car. Terry won’t admit it but she wants a bit more performance and driving feeling than my staid old Jetta can give her. I know if she buys one it won’t be a VW!

Be well

After struggling with exs. I phone years ago i came to conclusion that I phones were made for females. They require feelings 🤣
I always had an android and never a problem.
Mac: You are right, those phones are for creatures from Venus. Same problem with Mac's ( or Apple ) PC's too. Think that most of ( my ) the problem is I am technical and those OS's are not. Supposed to be intuitive - ya right, don't need intuitive, need logical steps with logical results. YMMV

Our daughter used to drive sports cars. Open top. Long blonde hair.-------
I loved it when she picked me up from work. :D

She still has the long blonde hair, but with children now, a Tesla is her mode of transport these days.

Terry’s last vehicle was a Urus and she loved it (I hated it) but it must have had a sign on it saying “Give me a ticket”. In the 18 months or so she had it the police must have pulled her over 10 times but she only given 2 speeding tickets that she was able to beat in court. She sold it due to health concerns for both of us at the time

Good morning folks, 50 here and rainy. Gonna pick up my Missus this afternoon from her trip to SC. Got the place in shape, Laundry's done but when I went to empty the dishwasher this morning, discovered I had put some new food containers in that were not dishwasher safe. Really warped the lids, so I have to run to Wallyworld in a bit for some prescriptions so I will get her some new ones. [mutter, grumble...etc]. Hoping Chad hears some good news today.

Good Morning All. Mostly cloudy and 66° here in Gulf Shores. Back home it's clear and 54°. It looks like fall will really hit when we return, highs only in the 70's; proceeded by heavy rains Friday through Saturday morning.

Might have to drive through some of the rain on the way home Saturday. I don't know which way the storm will track yet. We'll be taking the northern route home, traveling from Mobile to Jackson MS and then west on IH-20 to Dallas, overnighting in West Monroe LA after a stop in Vicksburg MS to visit yet another model railroad museum. It's also a historical museum with a lot of historical models of anti-bellum homes, aircraft, and very large models of Civil War re-creations...like Troy might do.

Well, the government shutdown is finally affecting us. We had planned a trip over to the Pensacola Naval Aviation Museum for today, but they're closed!:( It's just 28 miles east, although it takes almost an hour to get there. We were part of the way there last night, as the restaurant we ate at was just across the border in Florida, which is 10 miles from where we are staying. Another great but pricey meal. Cost with tip and 2 drinks @, was $160. But I am a heavy tipper, a tad over 25%.

Despite being on vacation, some things don't change. Had to do a load of laundry yesterday after the shortened visit to the model railroad display. Hoping to make the rest of the week without running the dishwasher until departure, but I'll probably do the laundry again before we leave Friday morning.

Tom O - That's too bad about the cancelled hockey trip. Good lick off-loading the tickets to the other 2 games if you haven't done so already.
Louis - More than a few other folks have been suckered by "old news" by the MSN feed.
Hughie - I still have trouble with my Android phone after 7 years. Getting the new S24 didn't help either.
Troy -
What did David do to lose Jaz?
I think that the upside down pictures finally frustrated her to the point of leaving again. I'm still not sure what the problem was, as I never experienced it.

Everyone have a wonderful Wednesday.

Good Morning All!
35F @ 84% foggy. To be 60F Later, 61F on Friday.

Not much to report, actually going to try pushing the Pex and Romax through the 2" buried pipe, Train Cave to Chick/Goat house. Should work OkieDokie as there are three 2' radii 90 degree bends in that pipe. It is only about 90' so we will see. Also, think I figured out how to ( somewhat ) seal that sliding barn door Maria just had to have. Gonna treat it like a garage door and use brush seals where I can. All the windows are in and sealed from the inside; trim after we get power out there for the chop saw. Front porch ( deck ) and chicken pen are waiting for Spring. Little foggy and dark, but you get the idea from the pix.

That horizontal opening below the window on the left is for an 'outside nesting box'. According to Maria Theory, when built, you can open the lid, and scoop eggs from under the girls! Yes, know it is a barn and you can not really seal the thing up, just want to block the winter wind as much as possible.

Have a couple of good looking bucks you might enjoy. The big one has not shown back up, so someones 'I shot an arrow in the air' probably got him. We are in the dead week between Archery and Rifle. Rifle hunt starts Saturday.

The big one is/was a 6x6. Both of the above have good weight and coat with plenty of weight for a white tail.

My new sweater was generating a ton of static so I took it back and complained. Guy at the store gave me another 'free of charge'.

Tom: what is an 'Urus'? Wondering minds just want to know.
