Good morning all!

Another beautiful fall like day today. Currently 57F heading up to a high of 73. Never did receive any rain yesterday that was predicted for the afternoon.. As usual it skirted around us.

Usual household chores today. Not much else going on yet.

Volleyball game tonight is away, so supper will be on the way home somewhere.

Have a safe day everyone!

Morning all,

Not much going on yet. Currently 60° and clear with a high of 81° later.

Tomorrow will be busy as I have to take the wife for her annual mammo appointment and then we meet with the Medicare agent to get her part D plan for next year. She has my insurance as her part B, so we're not spending extra there, but since my prescription plan is no longer Medicare qualified, we have to have a separate Part D, or else like all things government related, they penalize you for either not using the system or not having the appropriate insurance. Since she has the incorrect coverage on my insurance she falls into the penalty phase without having the 2nd pharmacy plan. Not all bad as her plan does pay for itself, $13 every 3 months covers $40 in co-pays from my plan, but my plan covers 2 of her meds that would cost us over $2500 until her plan covers. Then we have the appointment scheduled in December to get me signed up as well. I can hardly wait...

Chad: I've known about the moving between devices on replies for a long time. Not uncommon for me to start a reply on my phone and then moving to my computer as the attachment I need is on the computer and not the phone or vice versa.

Good morning from Wisconsin! 53f degrees now 66 later. The TV guessers yesterday said after our rains of yesterday morning were done about noon we would be dry for a few days but windy and slightly below seasonal temperatures. But the WeatherChannel app says rain this morning with a 70% chance between 8:30 and 10 then the highest chance over the next 24 hours is at 15%. The radar is showing the rain over Dubuque, Iowa which is 75 minutes west of us but when I run the next 12 hours it misses us to the southeast heading more towards MIGALYTO (Mike) in Illinois. We shall see! Either way hit or miss I’ll be in a basement triple checking dimensions for where the Swing Bridge will be setting!

I did an update last week to IOS 18.7.1 for IpadPro devices last week. Now when I get text messages with pictures I no longer can transfer those pictures to my photo album. I have to copy a screen print. So there is extra jibberish surrounding the picture, sorry about that. If there’s no jibberish in the photo it’s a picture I took…

The 1st picture is the space where the bridge will go. Water, industrial backdrop with some low mountains, rip rap and the intake/outflow openings to the power plant that will be covering that pillar on the right. The power plant by the way is my next build project after the bridge

The bridge is not completed but he needs the bridge to determine heights from the water to rail 2 & 9/16” but also where the bridge actually will sit. That way we can sketch out the double track’s mainline approach to the bridge.

Other than that Terry yesterday started her Autumn deep cleaning of the house. As she does a room I follow up by putting the window screens back in and then vacuum the space followed by a shampooing of the carpet. Deep cleaning is a twice a year tradition maybe 40+ years old and we have a system. I hide while she does her thing. She tells me she’s done and I go do mine. Then on to the next room…

I watched NHL hockey last night Detroit/Florida and Hawks/Blues. It’s too early in the season, game 5 for the Chicago BlackHawks but they destroyed St. Louis Blues in the 2nd and 3rd periods winning 8-3. A young very quick team. Small up front but a good sized defensive group. Hopefully more fun than the last 5 seasons.

We are heading to Canada to follow the BlackHawks for 5 games while they are on the West Coast swing starting in Winnipeg on 10/30. Our son flies private jets as part of his business group. He strongly suggested last night that we cancel flying while the shutdown is occurring. He says his pilots are saying there are too many gaps in the system right now to fly. With so many controllers reporting in sick it’s really taxing the guys remaining on duty. It’s an accident waiting to happen. We are not sure what to do as we have tickets to the games, flights and the hotel rooms are reserved. It’s not something you think about when flying but it does make sense. If we cancel we will drive down to Austin and the Hill Country for 10 days

Enjoy your day

Good Morning All. Clear and 60° this morning, heading to the mid-80's later. Mixed weather coming up that I won't be here to see. 90's on Saturday and Monday, but only 77° on Sunday. A week ago, there was rain in Sunday's forecast, but it disappeared a few days ago. It will be much cooler when we return from vacation at the end of next week.

Today, like yesterday will be spent making last minute (almost) preparations for the vacation trip. I'm halfway packed and I moved most of the yard equipment where it belongs to begin with! Got my "must bring" list ready, I think.
This morning I will make the weekly grocery trek with a very short list. Just a few non-perishables to be here when we return and some stuff that we're going to take with us. I'll get the car washed (wife's insistence) and I have another appointment at the hearing aid center to try again to make the right adjustment. Remember that I am dealing with a newbie there who hasn't learned the ropes yet. He has scheduled a session with the knowledgeable tech to link into their computer and my aids, to fix my problem. I can make the corrections using the phone app myself every morning when I turn them on, but it's a hassle and it isn't right. They should be ready to go as soon as I switch them on. Lunch will be at Kevin's favorite place in Denton, Portillo's, since I still have money left on a gift card.

Nothing going on out in the train shed right now. No new projects. I am running trains and sorting detail parts and figures in a vain attempt to get a little more organized out there.

Troy - Ironically, we were going to have Chili for supper last night. But surprise! The Ziploc bag containing the red-looking stuff from the freezer wasn't chili, but spaghetti sauce with meatballs in it. Didn't notice until I emptied it into the pan to heat it up. So a last minute switch in plans. Highlights a habit in our house, where my wife puts stuff in the freezer without marking the date or contents on the Ziploc! I mark them religiously.
Todd - I have never tried Black Olives in spaghetti sauce before, but have used everything else that you listed. I'll have to give it a try. I use chopped Bell Peppers in some batches as well. I make several different variations whenever I make a large batch with my homegrown Tomatoes.
Louis -
Do you mind me calling you Cujo? I would never want to offend you.
Don't look up the Japanese translation!;)
Mike - They're more likely to be hanging out at the Walmart than elsewhere.

Singer/rhythm guitarist Bob Weir of the Grateful Dead is 78 today. While the Dead had several members who sang, Bob was their principle lead vocalist.
Everyone have a wonderful Thursday today.

Well, howdy there all you melon-heads...

You all need to be nice with your metaphors, there is at least one lady who pops in here occasionally. ;)

It's Troy again.

Two trips to two different grocery stores are finished. Burgers on the grill tonight with Zesty fries, and then homemade deep dish pizza tomorrow.

Did I mention I picked up an Electric Snowblower for clearing the patio, and path to the parking/garage area? It's corded so I don't have to worry about keeping a battery charged. I had a rebate for $47 from Menards, so I used that toward the purchase.

In other news, I wrote a recap of what we gamers know about the impending release of my favorite game of little toy soldiers.

You can read the words here:

But, be warned that it might not make sense if you aren't a gamer.

PS: the joke in the title is that the game designer, Alessio Cavatore is well regarded in the gaming industry, having written some of the most popular game rules in years past. He was the original rules designer for the game I'm writing about. Two editions of the rules later he's back at the wheel again. the king returned.

Mostly blue sky and a few white clouds but cold. It was 45F about 30-40min ago and is now only 48F. Will be a cold walk. But the sun and exertion should keep one warm. Yesterday was 56 when I left and 51 when I got back but overcast and started to rain. Today will be nicer.

It rained a bunch in the night but never terrible violently. I could hear it on the roof when I woke up.

Have a follow up interview this afternoon but I’m not sure what kind it is. 45min instead of 30min but the invite said the name of the recruiter was the person with whom it is. I emailed him to clarify but haven’t gotten a reply yet.

Hello all, 76 and sunny here right now, slept in this morning, after getting in late last evening. Was at a hospital with a friend who was supposed to have a surgical procedure that was supposed to start at 2pm, then 3pm, then 6pm then 7pm, then was rescheduled to Friday at 6am. Working on the first pot of coffee still. No real plans for today now, so might make some ham and beans tonight. And cornbread. And remember sugar goes in the iced tea, NOT the cornbread!
And as far as hyphenated phrases before my name, on my former job if I didn't get some profane metaphors before my name a few times a week, I felt like I wasn't doing my job.

I left for the walk about 15-16 min after my last post and it had gotten to 50F. An hour later when I returned it was 54F.

Mostly blue with scattered clouds and sun. Light breeze you could detect. Didn’t feel cold at all due to the direct sun and body heat from a brisk walk.

It must have gotten into the 30s over night and with the rain it seems to have snowed at an elevation several hundred feet higher.

Pic below is west of our house and just south. This road is a block or two south of us.

This next one is just north of us. The big cloud and hill without snow on the left side of the pic is directly west.

IMG_9937.jpeg

And for comparison the real mountains on the east side of the valley.

IMG_9935.jpeg

Our western side snow will probably disappear by next week. It’s not that cold during the day though we’re supposed to get some more storms this weekend.

I have the house on cooling still but it hasn’t run for several weeks. Even on the warmer days. It’s server 72F but the house has been keeping itself at 70-71 for a few weeks until recently. Last weekend it started to dip to 69-70 and yesterday was 68 for a while. This morning when I woke up the thermostat said 67F though it is now 68F and by the end of the day, once everyone is home and moving around and cooking and stuff it may hit 69F or even 70F. With the air tightness and insulation it doesn’t move fast either direction. Especially when the outside temperature is not that cold (or hot). high 30s overnight but probably getting to the 60s during the day isn’t a huge differential. When it’s 0-20F overnight and 20-40F during the day in winter it doesn’t move fast move a little faster in changing. Not like our old hour though which could drop 10F down in a few hours in dead winter and 15F temps.

With the sun today I should get OK solar generation. There are still passing clouds and the days are getting shorter so it’s not summer generation. It’s only a 7.38kw system. I wish I had double like the original plans. Even then with the efficiencies and solar our electric bills were around $90 for June, $112 for July, and $128 for August. (June is June 9 — July 9). I have t gotten septembers bill yet. Those bills include hookup fees, services fees, taxes, etc and not just the power charge. I can’t complain. I have neighbors who pay several hundred dollars a month to cool their house plus their other electrical uses. And our gas bill is $7.47 a month for hookup unless we’re melting snow on the driveway.
