Mikey, are you holding the figures with your finger tips? I rarely get paint on me as I do 5 on a stick held on with double sided tape and rarely get paint on me.

Strange day. Went to breakfast with Terry and received a text from the grandson. I forgot today was a slot car racing session as they are off school today and tomorrow. Finished breakfast and then Terry dropped me off so I could play race Stewart, pit mechanic and watcher of 12 pre-teens between 10 and 12 years old. Besides me there were 3 other grandparents of the kids and my daughter worked her job upstairs in the kitchen. One of the racing kids grandparents owns a few of the local Culver’s. Guess what we had free for lunch!

We’ll do it again tomorrow

You don’t want to do this. You don’t need to “close” apps on the iPhone. And Apple specifically says not to do this.

When you swipe up and get the fan of apps — where you can swipe each one away — those aren’t running apps. That’s the list of most recently used apps. Most apps aren’t running when placed in the background (no longer the front app). They get a few second or a minute to finish what they were doing and then they’re suspended. There are exceptions, like media players that run in the background. And apps can register to periodically be woken up in the background for a short time to check for new data etc. but in general apps don’t run in the background. AND their memory is auto purged if the system runs low on memory so you don’t need to kill the app to free memory. The system does that for you. And in fact swiping away manually can affect the algorithms the system uses for that (managing suspended apps and auto purging memory) and make them less efficient. iOS also assumes that if you swipe it away you really don’t want it to do anything so it will not get woken up to check for new data and it may not deliver notifications until you run it again. The system truly will mark it “not wanted” if you swipe it away.

The only time you really want to swipe an app away to kill it is if the app is hung or otherwise broken.
So! I have an IPadPro and the IPhone. The IPadPro is currently running Ipad OS26. What I do at the end of the day is go to history, all tabs and clear it. I’ve done that daily since my 1st IPadPro in 2014, missing very few days. Does that help, hinder or do nothing? Thanks…

My eyes are crossed and my hand is cramped, but I managed to paint about 80 HO figures today. I think I got more paint on my fingers than I got on the figures. A hand full of figures produced one figure that did not need work.
I started with 8 German white plastic unpainted figures that had the shoes painted in the past. As paint dried, I poured out several figures of Oriental origin. I started with a flesh colored craft paint with a #8 brush. I have mentioned in the past my love for purple and lavender clothing colors on these figures. I think 5 figures now have those colors. I used mostly blue jean blue and black to cover those purple hues and the lovely orange plastic that about 30% of the figures are molded from. I now have some people with blond and chestnut brown hair, too.
On my next painting session, I plan to use more red and Kelly green for shirts and coats to provide more variety.

i have consolidated (actually, I found where I put them in a safe place) close to 500 unpainted and unsatisfactory paint figures from several sources. I have purchased mostly unpainted plastic figures , but I have acquired some rather interesting metal figures over the years from people leaving the hobby and at estate sales.

How many figures do you need on your layout?
The more the better. They definitely draw the eye more than almost anything else.

Driving at speed, i like it if the machine is built to spec. When going to Poland to visit my family, i always fly into Berlin in order to rent a car. One of the coolest was an Alfa Romeo 155, back in 2001. But i was with my dad and we shared driving duties. I was able to cruise comfortably at 200 km/h (125mph) although i did go up to 210 km/h. The fastest i went on autobahn in Germany was 230km/h, that's in Opel Astra station wagon with a wife and kids. The fastest i actually drove was in my 1988 Porsche 911 Carrera, normally aspirated; it topped out at 154mph, that was in the US...but i won't share the location 😆. Solid as a rock BTW, and Porsche feels like it's carved out of one solid piece of steel. I won't trust an American vehicle at that speed, they just don't make them to handle like the European cars. Japanese are somewhere in between, light, nimble but feel rather flimsy at high speed.

When you say History, are you talking about in the Safari web browser? That won’t hurt to do that. That’s an app internal data and not related to the system administration of memory and resources at the service level.

With regard to actually swiping away or killing apps:

I don’t know about iPad. iPadOS has diverged a lot from the iOS on the phone and may have a different policy on running in the background.

My iPad Pro is running 18.5 and I can swipe up from the bottom and get a tiled display of all the apps I’ve been running recently. Assuming it works like the phone (and I’d guess it does to a certain extent) that doesn’t mean those apps are running. It’s basically a history of what apps you’ve run recently. They may still be in memory (but not actively executing — rather suspended — in most cases) and maybe they’ve been purged. The idea is you can touch one and bring it back to the foreground running and if it was still in memory it will just be reactivated and if it wasn’t it will be launched and if the app developer was smart they’ll have saved what were you doing so they can restart with that loaded to give the illusion that you just brought it back to the foreground even if it was actually killed off and purged).

That’s how the phone works and I assume the iPad is similar. It appears to be from looking as a user but I’ve not developed anything on the iPad recently so I may be behind on knowing how it works.

Yeah driving the autobahn in a Mercedes at 135mph felt like driving any non German car at 70mph.

I’ve not had the pleasure of driving a Porsche. At any speed. But I believe you.

Good Evening All.
Went back to the Foley Railroad Museum this morning. No kids underfoot today. Took a few pictures with the phone which I was able to E-Mail to myself.

Just a teaser to all of the ones on the camera.

Thanks. It is from the Safari brower that I delete the history and any open tabs. Since I haven’t worried about leaving open apps it must be ok.

Text messages flying since 6:30pm. One of the racers today got home and mom took him to the doctor. Pink eye! Tomorrow’s session of slot car racing is cancelled as it is contagious in the 1st 24 to 48 hours. Funny his mom was pissed that none of the 4 adults supervising noticed he had issues with his eyes. He was in the text messaging group. He then informed mom in a reply text to all of us that he told her Wednesday morning his eyes hurt. That ended quickly the blame game. Kids and their children!!!

I watched the Black Hawks play well in a win in Tampa Bay. While watching that and then after until about midnight I was playing with a Ai that is on my Duck Duck Go browser called Claude! Interesting.

For my friends 1965 based Great Northern layout I asked it some questions about PNW paper mills. I started just to try by asking what is the typical pulp wood log length in 1965 PNW paper mills. Answer 16’. Basically ask it precise questions and your get quick responses from an internet search. The Crown-Zellenerbach mill in Camas produced typically 650 tons of paper daily. I will be asking questions about the amount of pulp wood, box, liquid chemical tankers and other railroad equipment daily at the plant. We can plan an operating scheme around the numbers. A typical mill in central Wisconsin was producing around 850 tons of paper per day in 1965 or about 200 more tons than the Camas mill. It was interesting and I believe helpful

Good morning all. A large coffee please, Flo.

Fast cars.

Years ago I owned an Austin Montego. Nothing flash, but it kept on going.
Going down the road, a Porsche behind. It was never going to pass me. I do not remember the speed, but my trusty Montego held the lead. Mile after mile I had a smug looking face.

Then at the end of the road works all I saw was a cloud of dust!!!

Good morning, Everybody!

I'm home checking easy things off the to-do list, in between resting. I'm not having the best day, but I have had much worse. It's not bad to be in the middle, even if it is the lower half.

I recently received this O27 K-Line, K-641-7409, "Season's Greetings" Musical Boxcar. I made an offer to the seller and to my surprise they accepted it! Don't ask me why I like it, but I do.

Photo from eBay.

At first, I was disappointed to see I had to remove the shell to put batteries in. Once I put the batteries in and turned it on, I was pleasantly surprised, the sound was amazing! It plays many of my favorite instrumental Christmas classics. I didn't expect such hi-quality sound from a 23-year-old sound system. To be honest for what I paid, I didn't expect it to work at all.

My break is over, and my coffee cup is empty. I need to get off my 🫏!

The Big Show begins tonight!

I hope all is well with my train friends.

Enjoy your day Everybody!

An early Good Morning to All. It's clear and 59° here in Gulf Shores, 64° and cloudy back home. Radar shows that rain passed through the home area for the last two hours, but neither of the two closest Weather Underground stations are reporting any total. A third one about 12 miles away is reporting 0.3". The whole county is under a flash flood watch, with the most rain expected around midnight. We take NWS warnings/watches with a grain of salt most of the time.
Leaving here about 7:30, which means rolling through Mobile at the tail end of their morning rush hour. Then through some neighborhoods to get on US-98 (really nice road once we cross the Mississippi state line) to Hattiesburg MS; where we will take US-49 (good for most of the route) to Jackson before proceeding west on IH-20. Lunch and a stop at a historical museum with model railroad layouts in Vicksburg MS before ending up in West Monroe LA for the night. Then tomorrow i anticipate rain along the way through Shreveport and possibly even to Dallas before heading north to home sweet home. We're heading west and the rain is heading east. The highway from Vicksburg all of the way to Dallas, with the exception of the segment through downtown Shreveport is all excellent roadway. If conditions look bad, my navigator (wife) might steer us on the loop around Shreveport. But we planned for that segment (Shreveport/Dallas) to be on Saturday when traffic is significantly lighter. That's it for now, as it's time to shower and get dressed. Most everything except the stuff for the cooler is already packed and some is already loaded in the car. Phones, camera, tablet etc., are all charged up and ready. Gas this morning on the north side of town, cheapest we've seen at $2.59/gal; and we're off.

Everyone have a great Friday.

Good morning all!

Happy Friday!

A very cool morning. Its currently 28F but the high will be a pleasant 55F this afternoon.

Volleyball game last night was a win. It was also the last game of the season. A couple of weeks break before
basketball starts.

Not much else going on at the moment.

Have a safe day everyone!
