Good Morning All. Clear and 67° this morning. High today in the upper-80's. Same forecast for the next 10 days with no rain in sight; at least according to the NWS. The La Niña effect is here already controlling our weather, meaning a mild and dry winter ahead.
Nothing different about yesterday, or the upcoming day today. Another laundry load yesterday to get the stuff that didn't fit in Sunday's load; meaning mostly my stuff. But I have more than enough to keep me in clean clothes for 2-3 weeks. This is the result of the kids giving me/us stuff at Christmas/birthdays/etc., that we don't need or have room for any more. In the kitchen it's Tupperware containers! But I digress.
Grilled those 1.5" thick pork chops last night, extra delicious with some green beans that I canned last spring and some yummy blueberries from the organic section of the store. Tonight, it's Taco Tuesday; either home here or at the local Mexican place where all draft beer, taco platters and Margaritas are $2 off.
Looking ahead about a week and a half from now, when we leave for our annual vacation trip to Gulf Shores AL. We've got the condo booked and my wife made the hotel reservations both going and coming home about 3 weeks ago. The cost for the room in Baton Rouge on the way there, went up in price $20 over the weekend...not to us since we've already paid. Car was serviced last Friday and it's ready to go. Years ago, we made the 11 hour journey in one day, but not any more.
So Tom O isn't the only one who has a disreputable neighbor. I've posted before about our guy, who has never been a problem with me or one other neighboring family, but has been a bad neighbor to 3 other families for many years...except the 7 years that he was locked up for shooting up one of those neighbor's RV. I hadn't seen him recently, and discovered yesterday that he's been locked up in the county jail since 9/12. Violated a restraining order that neighbor Bubba has on him. His wife is refusing to bail him out right now. It's not the first time that this has happened.

Nothing special to report from out in the train shed yesterday. I ran trains and cleaned the workbench area.

Patrick - Regarding the roads, I basically use the same widths in both rural and urban settings. There's very few people who could tell the difference anyway, and I don't get many visitors...just selective compression at work.
Michael - Lucky you on the mowing. I have to mow 11 months a year most years, but on the bright side, I never have to shovel snow.
Singer/guitarist John Mellencamp is 74 today. And if you care, Joy Behar is 83.

Everyone have a great Tuesday. I'd love to see the stock market repeat yesterday's performance...I own a few shares of AMD which went up almost $40 per share.

The back yard grass is cut and no, I didn't have another heart attack. Despite my wife watching out the window waiting for me to collapse. The poor girl gets herself so worked up her blood pressure went up slightly. I told her to wait a half hour, and it would be back to normal. I should have waited until after she checked her blood pressure before I told her I was going to cut the grass.

It takes longer to cut the grass when it is wet from the morning dew. But I use that to my advantage. I take breaks and clean the under carriage. Another upside is the cooler temperatures in the morning. I don't do well when the temperatures approach 80. Forget about when they go above that, I stay inside. "A man's got to know his limitations".

My trip to the attic yesterday yielded a bonus. I found a book I hadn't read in a long time; "The Year of the Pitcher: Bob Gibson, Denny McLain, and the End of Baseball's Golden Age" By Sridhar Pappu. I'm looking forward to rereading it. The only trouble is, like what happens when I watch movies, I tend to fall asleep when I read. This might take a while.

But first, I need a shower.

More good news!

A book I ordered "Greenberg's Guide to Lionel Trains, 1970-1988" is out for delivery! This is a pleasant surprise. The book left Phoenix AZ on the forth and it will be at my door today. Well done USPS!

It looks like I will be taking plenty of naps!

hard back or softback cover book?
Also could you say how much the book cost or somewhere about?
Paperback, it was used-like new. This edition comes with a 1989 supplement. If you do buy it, I recommend this edition. I don't know if they have a hard cover. I believe this book is out of print.

I paid a total of $18.01 including tax and $3.99 shipping from Amazon. Many used books from Amazon come from third party sellers and often the shipping charge is $3.99.

Some do come through prime and have no shipping charge if you are a prime member or your qualifying order exceeds $35.

When looking for books on Amazon look for this link on the upper right usually Other Used, New, Collectible from $xx.xx scroll to the bottom to be sure you found the best deal. Sometimes it can be a few pages of listings.

I always check Amazon when looking for books!

Good afternoon all. Flo, can I have a late Afternoon Tea please.
Been to see the Vampire Nurse, so I am minus a 'pint or two'.

I love researching the history of ships.
Dunnottar Castle had an amazing career from 1936 to 2002 before being broken up in 2004

I remember when all Amazon sold were books. That was the online book store.

@chadbag I hope you have offered your services to Amazon.

The Amazon App we use as delivery contractors is awful! They try to fix on issue and create two more. I suspect they are hiring the most inexperienced (cheapest) people.

Why can't GPS remember what direction I was going in? It often tells me to turnaround when I don't have to. Thank God I can read the map in the app, but I worry about other inexperienced drivers making countless U-turns for no reason.

Google tells me millions of people have downloaded the Amazon contractor's app. I wonder how many accidents there have been because of the nonsense.
I don’t know if Amazon farms out their client software or does it in house. I have seen job listings for Amazon but I don’t remember what it was. If they allow remote (and it fits) then I apply.

Good late morning, lifting my coffee cup to you all. 79 here, supposed to hit mid 80s later and about 50% cloudy/sunny. Won a G&D locomotive on fleabay, so now I will have all three of them. It is supposed to be delivered today, our post office changed the schedule on our mail folks, so it will be late afternoon before it arrives. Slept in this morning and it felt really good.
Be good!

It's hard to believe the giant online store came from such humble roots that began in the converted garage of Bezos's house in 1994. He sold nothing but books until 1998.
Yes, and music. I bought several imports from them that couldn't be found anywhere else.
They still are a useful source for music. Not just streaming, but CDs and Albums. Including imports, even used.

Abe’s was the online bookstore. Amazon was just an upstart. Amazon eventually bought out Abe’s.

You used to have to telnet in to a port to connect to an interactive terminal store session at Abe’s . You could search for books etc and buy them. All in a text based terminal environment like your online card catalogs from several decades ago.

I bought a book or two from them in the early 90s that way.
