Good Evening Everyone. Foggy and 54° here at home sweet home. We got in about 90 minutes ago after an interesting but uneventful trip from Texas City TX to home on the range. Other than a 7 mile stretch of IH45 at Corsicana TX where it sprinkled, we encountered no other area of rain on the trip. Some traffic snarls in the Houston and Dallas area, but those were not unexpected. Houston is always screwed-up, and Dallas is getting that way. Hughie had warned me in a PM that there was a part of one highway that was diverted to the service road, but didn't tell me it was 7 miles long. Only issue on the whole trip is that my wife left her personal pillow at the hotel this morning, even after I reminded her to get it. It is still my fault!o_O

I believe that the rain is finished for today, with another 0.7" added to our total that is now 6.15" since last Sunday. Still a chance tomorrow and Monday before this stuff goes away.

Wow! The Texas City Museum that we went to this morning was super. A whole series of exhibits about the founding of the city and what had happened up to modern times. A truly interesting and large exhibition room was devoted to the Disaster of '47, where a ship full of ammonium nitrate blew up and set off a tremendous chain reaction that killed and injured many.

Upstairs at the museum, open only on Saturdays is a number of model railroad layouts provided by the Galveston County Model Railroad Club. Texas City is just 9 miles inland from Galveston Island and it's in the same county. These guys have two N scale layouts, one animated and the other really large. There's also a large HO layout and a small Lionel and S scale layout among others. I'll be posting pictures soon, as soon as I finish those from the Foley AL layout.

That's it for this evening, as I didn't have a nap today. I'll leave you with one teaser picture from the museum this morning. This is a long shot of one side of the animated N scale layout.

World Series update, Series tied 1-1.
Game One
Game Two

Power hitters are often streak hitters. If they don't get a good pitch to hit...

Line drive/Gap hitters are more consistent.

The FD, Police and Military know how to do a funeral right.
They certainly do and they should. It's a shame that we wait for a tragedy to honor them.
I have Africa Korps and one I believe is called Red Army. It's a NATO vs. Russia game. As much as I played it there was just too many Russian forces for NATO to win. Even employing nuclear weapons really didn't help much.
I'm not familiar with that game. I've never played any cold war era game. I have played the original Hearts of Iron (WWII) several times. The only way for the Germans to win is to capture Moscow quickly to force Stalin to accept peace terms. Otherwise, when the red armies from Siberia and other parts of the east arrive in the European theater it's all over. The sheer numbers are overwhelming. That combined with the endless supply of American equipment and armaments sealed the fate of the German army.

At the start of WWII much of the Russian army is poorly equipped. I suspect that was not the case in the cold war era.

As you know my wife is Hungarian. Her father was a conscript and trained with the Russian army as Hungary was part of the Warsaw Pact. He told of his experience in the Hungarian army. The Russians supervised the training. It was intense and used live ammunition. The Russians made it clear that political officers would shoot anyone not moving forward or showing any sign of cowardice. The political officers were fanatics, true believers in communism.

Her father was able to transfer to the Hungarian Navy. He served the rest of his time as a commando patrolling the Danube River. That afforded him a little more separation from the Russians. He loved Hungary, but he hated the Russians, the Hungarian government and communism in general. He listened to radio free Europe and loved western movies. Later he encouraged my wife to visit the United States. He loved the American way of life, the little he knew of it. He was so proud that my wife was becoming an American citizen.

Good morning from a cool So. Central Wisconsin. It’s not quite as cool as what Patrick has in Wichita but close. 34f degrees feeling like 27 with a real high of 40 this afternoon. Both grandkids are awake, dressed and one of them wants a Sunday donut. Texted her mom to have a donut ready at the hockey game when we will meet them at 8AM. I will watch the game and head home, alone. They will head out to another game.

The Packers play at noon and since I have no real interest in the game I have time to ride one of Terry’s horses. I promised I’d ride at least 1 per day while she is traveling. It’s not bad in this weather even though it’s colder. The wind is mostly blocked when riding through the woods and I am dressed for it.

I was able last night to sell the 2 volleyball tickets for the game on campus this afternoon. It’s a national game on the Fox Network following the early NFL games. VB is getting really great ratings regional TV ratings. Fox does BigTen football and are trying VB nationally today! I was not interested in going alone or asking someone to join me. I’ll watch on TV.

back later

Good morning, Everybody!

I had a not so good evening yesterday. Every day is a good day, some days are simply better than others. I've already had two good naps this morning. I'm feeling much better, like a wet rag. I've been wrung out, now I need to be hung to dry! ;)🙂

I have work I could be doing, but after yesterday evening my get up and go, got up and went.

I'm looking forward to today's NFL games. I'll drip-dry sitting on the couch watching football.

The Washington Commanders are hosting the Philadelphia Eagles at 1pm. The two teams played an exciting down to the wire finish the first time they met this season. I'm hoping Washington can come out on top this time.

My Baltimore Ravens are on the road to face the Arizona Cardinals at 4:25pm. The "experts are predicting a dominate win for the Ravens. I'll be happy with any victory! The Cardinals may only be 1-6 this season, but that one win came against a good Dallas Cowboys team. "Any given Sunday" I only hope I don't fall asleep before it is over.

There is no World Series game today as it is a travel day.

I'm going to roast a big chicken on the Weber charcoal kettle. If anyone is nearby you are welcome to join us. Otherwise, we will be eating chicken for a week. Oh well, I love my wife's homemade chicken soup! I don't know why I buy such big pieces of meat to roast. Even with only the two of us and my diminished appetite I still end up with the biggest the store has. It's no wonder I am so creative with leftovers.

Have a wonderful day Everybody!

Sunny with a high of +2C. perfect for todays outdoor heritage classic - Oilers vs Flames. 20 yrs ago it was -29.
I sort of whish both teams could win the ball trophy, since neither were sposed to be in the room.
The catchers mitts & a signed ball from our 1961 little league ball team. Coach was my cousin, umps were usually either my dad or his brother.
this summer was the first time I saw those items since '61. didnt know they existed until a first cousin, once removed, brought them to a celebration of life for my mom.
