Same Ol' Buzzard
Good Evening Everyone. Foggy and 54° here at home sweet home. We got in about 90 minutes ago after an interesting but uneventful trip from Texas City TX to home on the range. Other than a 7 mile stretch of IH45 at Corsicana TX where it sprinkled, we encountered no other area of rain on the trip. Some traffic snarls in the Houston and Dallas area, but those were not unexpected. Houston is always screwed-up, and Dallas is getting that way. Hughie had warned me in a PM that there was a part of one highway that was diverted to the service road, but didn't tell me it was 7 miles long. Only issue on the whole trip is that my wife left her personal pillow at the hotel this morning, even after I reminded her to get it. It is still my fault!
I believe that the rain is finished for today, with another 0.7" added to our total that is now 6.15" since last Sunday. Still a chance tomorrow and Monday before this stuff goes away.
Wow! The Texas City Museum that we went to this morning was super. A whole series of exhibits about the founding of the city and what had happened up to modern times. A truly interesting and large exhibition room was devoted to the Disaster of '47, where a ship full of ammonium nitrate blew up and set off a tremendous chain reaction that killed and injured many.
Upstairs at the museum, open only on Saturdays is a number of model railroad layouts provided by the Galveston County Model Railroad Club. Texas City is just 9 miles inland from Galveston Island and it's in the same county. These guys have two N scale layouts, one animated and the other really large. There's also a large HO layout and a small Lionel and S scale layout among others. I'll be posting pictures soon, as soon as I finish those from the Foley AL layout.
That's it for this evening, as I didn't have a nap today. I'll leave you with one teaser picture from the museum this morning. This is a long shot of one side of the animated N scale layout.
