As I'm sure you remember, it's a Triang Kit, so pre 1971, all metal body, chassis and tender, (except the tender wheels) Brush painted (cheap air brushes weren't a thing then as I'm sure you know) but this is my second one, plan is to experiment on this and see if I can't get a half decent paint job done.

Cleaning the con rods etc isn't a biggie, soak 'em for a week, and there will be fine, fixing the broken body parts, not so easy, but I have a cunning plan, I hope, Oh, and it was £34 inc

Chris.

It would be nice when it is completed its name remained, but renumbered 60525. I am sure you know nameplates are available from Fox Transfers..

Troy: The "Battery" in Ludington is hydropower. During the night they have a man-made reservoir that they fill. Pump the water right out of Lake Michigan. Then during peak usage, they release the water back into the lake generating the extra power they need. If you look at Google maps, the reservoir is built in the sand dunes beside the lake. I was 12 when that plant went online and I kind of remember them really selling that plant and the construction. They always keep that reservoir full.

Yes, got new Mallard, Gresley and Scotsman nameplates from them, along with LNER transfers. So that's two Loco's I've now got to do, whenever I finish the layout that is. :)

60525?? I thought under BR it became 60527, 525 was A H Peppercorn

If I get it right tho', I'll renumber it to 531 Bahram

Good afternoon. It's very clear and 78.
I had need of a decoder, so I went to my LHS for the first time in over three months. There have been some changes, almost none of them I could see were good. There was a new face behind the register, the others were the same. The owner passed away a little over a year ago, and I don't know if there is a new owner, or something else happened, but the experience was noteworthily unpleasant. First, there is even less merchandise available. Second, even though mask restrictions have been lifted statewide for a very long time, masks are still strongly suggested, and all staff were masked up. Staff suggested I wear a mask when I entered the store.
Next, nearly everything that can be, without a major remodel, is now behind the counter, and you have to ask for it. I asked for the decoder, was brusquely told, "nope, don't have it". Really? Can I have that decoder on the back wall, hanging on the top hook behind the counter seven feet in the air? Since that's the one I asked for, I'll just use it until you can get one in for me. Obviously, that comment went over like a shit-flavoured snowcone. By that point, I was in a mood I really didn't care, since I've made my mind up I won't be returning. Lastly, I felt like I was followed around the store like everybody thought I was going to steal everything not locked away. And it wasn't just me, I saw the few other patrons getting the same treatment.
The museum across the street was having a shindig of some kind, and I normally would have been elbow-to-elbow with people coming from the museum. Not today. There were, including me, 5 people in the store that weren't employees. It's sad, I've been a customer almost since they opened in 1987, but I guess it's going to be online-only purchases for me, and if I can't get something that way, I'm going to have to do without.

Must be on someone's list. 6 calls about whether I was a marine stationed at Camp LaJuene or was there as a civilian. Sorry never a marine nor been to North Carolina. I kind of miss the car warrantee guys.

I understand there was a problem that took an act of congress to resolve, but how many ambulance chasing lawyers do we need? Seems we have an overabundance...I know I only think I work for city government. I work for lawyers.

Back on the solar/alternative energy front... Seems like some folks are thinking ahead.

In a nutshell, they are looking at using a lake and reservoir that are at different elevations, and when solar is generating more than the grid is pulling, use the excess to pump water uphill. When the sun goes down, use gravity and water to power hydro-elect generators and let it run downhill. Basically, a water battery.

Yes, there is some loss of energy running the pumps, but they avoid all of the issues with massive banks of real batteries.

That's actually encouraging. The story goes into more details about the plans.
Dams, it’s an excellent idea, water screws also, makes total sense, you just need a very tall or deep drop and a bi g weight

I'm hearing from numerous Marines that a two year stay at Lejeune will get ya about $150. If that's worth your time.
Of course there will be hundreds to thousands filing a claim which translates to big bucks for the law firms. They put their new guy on the task of typing in the name and info of each claimant on the form.
Ya'all might have thought they were just wanting to help.

I was involved in the class action on the Maytag Neptune debacle. That was the first generation front loading poorly designed front loading washer. After the lawyers all got paid, I ended up with a coupon for $50 toward a new Maytag appliance. Last thing I'd do is buy another Maytag anything. That was part of what doomed Maytag as an independent company. It is a Whirlpool brand along with Amana.

I did however a few years ago get a new Maytag dryer. Pretty much a basic unit that does a great job at drying laundry. It is a commercial unit, and they made me an offer I couldn't refuse. The boy bought the same model for his house for less as a closeout at either Lowes or Home Depot.

Evening whiskey is poured. 1867... supposedly a good year in Canada. That's the brand name, not the vintage.

As for the water battery... Yes. I'm aware they exist. I was surprised that someone figured out to use excess "green energy" to operate one. I had never made the connection between the two techs. I could see that working most everywhere that wasn't desert or frozen.

Had fun at the game store. Normally, when I visit a new store, I walk in with a list of 10 to $20 stuff I'd be willing to pick up, just to support the store. However, this store had $99 or higher stuff in the game systems I was interested in. I don't need that much stuff. I've still got 2.5 armies to paint for the game system.

I purchased a couple of beverages from the cooler and paid the $5 buy-in for the prize pool. One of the $99 boxes was the top prize, so they lost $$ on it. But I did win the $5 prize. Some "objective" markers that look like treasure chests, or obelisks, and such in cast resin. Not bad. Something else to add to the paint pile.

I was there about a year in 1966. No one has called me. I forgot and friend of mine who I've know since I was 5 years old was also there that year. He was there with the CB's. He died of throat cancer about 8 years ago.

We've all heard it: "Back in the old days...". But it's all too often true.

Mom's house STILL uses a (top loading) Maytag washer-dryer (gas dryer) set. They are both still going strong, and they bought the pair back in the seventies.

I had a kitchen fire here about two days back when an electric stove-top burner shorted out--fireworks over a four foot radius, and it burned a hole right through the aluminum frying pan I was using at the time. I found the short when I popped it out of the two sockets--just a bit too floppy, the two male socket pins (let's not go there :D), so I assume they just shorted, with the current not traveling through the burner element itself but cutting across the gap..but the GE (a GE!!!) range itself is also fifty years old or even older. Moreover, the other three burners and the oven are still running just fine even after the fire. Go figure. I just took the bad one out of service with a ceramic dish (rather than use the burner's metal "under shield" lest it make contact with the two hot elements and spark again.

The two 30 amp circuit breakers did NOT trip, so this is a probem.

When I replace the range, I am going to look for an induction top. As for repairs on the two Maytags at mom's house, (when needed), I'm inclined to keep 'em running...even if I have to machine a new set of bearings myself. Those two are freakin' tough.

You first have to have water. Calf. is lacking in that department.
It's going to be interesting to see how the Colorado River situation shakes out. The Colorado River starts in/at "Grand Lake" CO, but Grand Lake's water is taken from the western slope to the eastern slope through the...Alva B. Adams (?*)...water tunnel, which is a bore about eight feet in diameter.

[* Yes, I could go look it up, but it's more challenging and fun to go from memory alone at times]

It can be argued--and I expect it to be argued in court more than a few times again--that this western slope drainage water properly belongs to and should drain out to the west...through the drying Colorado River...and not to the eastern slope.

Another west to east water tunnel parallels the Moffat (RR) tunnel--it's the Moffat water tunnel, from which the RR tunnel was cut, in part, with side-cuts.

There is also Denver's major water source--Dillon Lake, which is on the western slope and not the eastern slope where Denver lies.

For those unfamiliar with this, it's part of US "Western Water Law," the general idea being: Those closest to the source and who first laid claim to it are entitled to use it first, and despite needs from those further downstream or downriver. This principle was famously tested in court when L.A. CA built the Colorado River to LA water canal (the Colorado River Aqueduct system), and I can easily see a (another?) L.A. vs. Denver court battle looming over the horizon.

It's going to be interesting every year as the Colorado River dries up. And dries up some more.

Good early morning everyone, couldn’t sleep. I came out to the living room to check in on the forums and a freakin skunk 🦨 is out on the front lawn. This is the second time this year; the other we were coming home from the neighbours and it’s by our garage door. I don’t need this spraying around my house for sure! Three raccoons then appeared and the skunk scurried off down the road.

Started painting my train station last night after being at the model train show yesterday and as always it inspired me. Great layouts by many of the great clubs around the province.

One individual had a great display of his ore cars where he crushes the ore from down the Windsor way. One of my favourites of course was the coal loading ship and dock by the Narragansett Bay Railway club. I will paint my train station more today, take the wife for groceries, and hopefully get some more trees cleaned up. Need my coffee now, but I wish you all a great day !
