That's cool! No flickering? I guess those light bulbs are not so fast reacting, so they create their own buffer?
I think it is cool too!
The caboose is nothing special. It has the original incandescent bulb from 1991, originally designed for variable AC.
From my experience Lionel's Fastrack is very reliable. If it is kept clean and the pickups on the cars are clean there will be no flickering.
I'm running it on DC power from Lionel's LionChief power supply that supplies a constant 18 volts. Which is why the light is shining so bright, I've been keeping an eye on it, and it does get a little warm, but not enough to melt anything.
As you know, Incandescent lamps don’t care whether the supply is AC or DC, they just need voltage across the filament. As long as the voltage is within the bulb’s rating, it glows the same way.
I don't know how long the bulb will last running at 18 volts, but it is simple enough to replace and I have spares.
My plan is to use this caboose only for my Thanksgiving train, a week to ten days at most. Later I will replace the Thanksgiving train with a Lionel LionChief Polar Express set under the tree.
If I find the incandescent bulbs don't last, I can replace it with an LED bulb.
This is the seventh Christmas season I have used this track. I clean it and treat it once a year before I assemble it under the tree.
