It's train season so the fun has begun. I went through my box of misc. structure stuff and threw together a freight house. It was a quick 2 day project. I did a lot of experimenting with the AK rust products. I'll probably end up selling this at the March swap meet.

Afternoon, all! A lot of oops try later here as well. Preparations for the Thanksgiving dinner continue. Since we have the largest house nearly all big events are held here. Usually the tree gets put up by our youngest daughter and the 3 grandsons after Thanksgiving dinner. Since I/m not sure if I get to drop in tomorrow, I'd like to wish each and every one a Happy Thanksgiving and hope you get to spend it family and friends.

STAY SAFE
LATER

It may seem early but it’s Thursday in Japan.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Since it’s not a Japanese holiday, and Turkey and similar is not typical Japanese food, we’re going to go to sushi I think. My son said there was a good Hokkaido based chain that’s not expensive but good and fresh.

We have to check out this morning and this evening fly to Kobe on Skymark airline. Kobe is where my SisIL and her husband live. We’ll stay with them until Tuesday.

And to think that it might all have ended up at the dump!
Willie the 7 kids are selling the house for $700,000.00 the track was the only item left in the house. I figured they wanted it gone and get on with selling the house, so they get their $100,000.00 each. $2,000 worth track was just in the way. I was playing golf with some of my friends today and one of them said I want some it. Swal

That's cool! No flickering? I guess those light bulbs are not so fast reacting, so they create their own buffer?
I think it is cool too! 😁

The caboose is nothing special. It has the original incandescent bulb from 1991, originally designed for variable AC.

From my experience Lionel's Fastrack is very reliable. If it is kept clean and the pickups on the cars are clean there will be no flickering.

I'm running it on DC power from Lionel's LionChief power supply that supplies a constant 18 volts. Which is why the light is shining so bright, I've been keeping an eye on it, and it does get a little warm, but not enough to melt anything.

As you know, Incandescent lamps don’t care whether the supply is AC or DC, they just need voltage across the filament. As long as the voltage is within the bulb’s rating, it glows the same way.

I don't know how long the bulb will last running at 18 volts, but it is simple enough to replace and I have spares.

My plan is to use this caboose only for my Thanksgiving train, a week to ten days at most. Later I will replace the Thanksgiving train with a Lionel LionChief Polar Express set under the tree.

If I find the incandescent bulbs don't last, I can replace it with an LED bulb.

This is the seventh Christmas season I have used this track. I clean it and treat it once a year before I assemble it under the tree.

I can replace it with an LED bulb.
Yup, easy bridge rectifier and diode. I use flickering amber leds to simulate oil lamps or stoves.

I also used a magnet switched thingy in my OO scale brake van. Couldn't figure out a way to get power from the track, so I went this route. Replaced the led with an amber flickering led and doublesided taped it to the roof. Button cell battery power. Not real bright but good 'nuff. Have to imagine a random flickering like a candle...

I still regret selling my CD collection when we moved. Pennies on the dollar, but it would have been two more boxes we had to pay to ship back to Indiana.
I understand how you feel. I lost a lot of stuff over the years for various reasons. Try not to let it bother you. I say try because I know better than to say don't let it bother you.
Ouch...
If anybody wants a cheap (or not so cheap) thrill, look up the current prices of DDR5 computer ram. I've bought good-running cars for less...
Did you check eBay? I got sticker shock checking Amazon for DDR4.

And now I see DDR5 is much higher on Amazon!
KFC is the national Chrismas food too.
That is a no brainier if you ask me, KFC is the best fried chicken money can buy!

I'll stick to my Christmas ham. I love KFC, but ham is even better.
