Good morning....Busy day today. Coffee Flo in the big cup, please.

Good morning from a Cloud called Saint. I’m not a party animal but we do like to go out, especially after a hockey game that ended around. 8:15pm. St. Cloud, Mn is dead on a Friday night. The 3 places we stopped for a brew and a sandwich shut down at 8. We could have hit a dive near campus but passed on the one place as the website review said if your over 25 don’t bother. I needed something for my medicines last night so across the street from the hotel was a McDonalds. Terry had a wrap, I had a regular burger and we got out of there. We don’t stay in the same hotels the team does and Coach has told us in the past we should. We will in the future as we hit the smaller schools in the conference. Staying and visiting, Minneapolis, Columbus and Bloomington are great busy open cities. Mankato, St. Cloud and a few others roll the sidewalks up too early for even Terry and me

The weather at 6:36 CST is very unseasonal at 50f degrees down from 54 at 5:30 wake up. Heading to the 30’s this afternoon.

The hockey game was a win! 5-1 just a workmen type of game. The Badgers came to win and with 4 lines of unrelenting talent and 3 excellent defensive pairings with last season’s #1 national goalie just out classed StCloud State. Goals can come from just about any of the Badgers because the talent is so deep. St Cloud St really has to work for there chances. Another outstanding game against the Badgers from an opposing goalie really kept the Badger score down.

Free breakfast now but it’s a pass, lunch b4 the 2pm game at one of the closed places last night. The desk person when I asked last night when we came in mentioned all 3 places that were closed last night as must eat at places. She did say most restaurants in St Cloud close early if there’s no business.I hope she’s right about the food

Enjoy the day

sweet mincemeat pies
It’s my mom’s favorite, the only other person in our family who likes it is my wife.

My mom was so upset one Thanksgiving when my sister forgot her pie. She never went back to her house for the holiday and instead came to ours, because my wife never forgot to make her pie.

This was my mom's preferred pie filling.

Good morning gang and Happy SATURDAY! I say it like this so all the retirees can remember that church is tomorrow!😀😆😁

I think the next major merger we may see will be BNSF and CSX so that it forms a second coast to coast railroad.

Heading out to chop leaves then head to my not so local local hobby shop.

Morning all! 64°F this morning southeast of St. Louis. Heading for nearly 80°F today. It is unseasonably warm, but not unusual to have these temps in November. No different than hitting 80°F for a day in late March or April.

I found the plywood piece that I cut out of my third level along the RhB Arosa line. This was for access, but doesn't really have to be as big of a hole as I cut. I'm going to cut some of what came out of the access hole and mount it flush with the rest of the third level so I have some place to put my new feed business.

With the extra wood in the hole, I'll have plenty of room for the business as well as an access road running behind the Litzirüti station. I might even have enough left over to put the small chapel back where it was. Or nearly so.

Have a warm Saturday everyone!

Servus!

Good Morning All. Clear and 61°, supposed to get near 90° today! Winter must be approaching.;) Wind shifts from the NW tonight, so tomorrow will be a bit cooler...80°. Still predicting thunderstorms for next Wednesday/Thursday. With temperatures in the 80's going in, that means a potential for severe weather.

Lots of household chores yesterday occupied my whole morning; dishwasher, laundry, burn trash, etc. Early afternoon was cutting firewood for about 30 minutes before heading for the train shed. Later on, I made Italian sausage with homemade Marinara made from Tomatoes that I canned in 2023. Still using Onions harvested back in May.
Spoke with my son yesterday to wish him a Happy Birthday, and wish him a safe trip to St John's in the Caribbean for his birthday trip. Then the bad news from him. His MIL, who is visiting from Philadelphia, fell in his home Thursday night and broke her hip which required surgery; and they had to cancel the trip! It's a strange situation there, as she lives in Philly and his FIL lives in the guesthouse in their backyard. He's suffering from early dementia and they (son and DIL) thought that MIL was coming to take him back to Philly...maybe not! Odd couple to begin with, as while they are currently married to each other, they have divorced and remarried twice before! Third time must be a charm. She loves his money.

This morning will be an outdoor morning. I need to give some attention to the compost pile and turn it over. Then I can either cut more firewood or split some that I already have on standby. All good exercise.

Out in the train shed yesterday, I first turned my attention to the roof of the hotel/card room structure. The kit came with 2 Hydrocal air conditioner castings.

These got painted and I also painted a couple of DPM roof hatches and added all to the roof.
1763217297412.jpeg

Then I got some drainpipes from the details drawer and added them to the sides of the structure to cover the seam where the wall castings met. I had to extend them with some .050" Evergreen styrene rod to reach the ground.

1763217493121.jpeg

Note also that I added some Evergreen sidewalk to the front and left side as well. This will be painted today. I also test-fitted all of the windows and doors, all of which still need curtains/shades. Once again I will struggle with the arches.
1763217664491.jpeg

I posted the other day that the windows on the left half, were supposed to get awnings, but I couldn't find any in the kit! Instructions show them, so I can either E-Mail Randy or just look for some in my multiple boxes and drawers of details. Signs are next.
I've got some other small projects going on on the side along with running new engines to keep me occupied. More on that later.

Terry - Bad that you dropped the engines, good that you were able to repair them so readily. Fortunately I haven't dropped an engine in over 20 years. It was a blue box GP50 that never fully recovered. What are you doing home on Friday anyway?
Todd - I haven't ever learned delivery drivers names, not that I would remember them anyway. The UPS driver that delivers here is a familiar face who has been on this route for at least 5 years. We nor the neighbors get deliveries from FedEx except on rare occasions, and I haven't ever seen that person. Amazon drivers are different on every delivery. I see them delivering to the neighbors because I have to stop them when they leave there and threaten them (with a call to their dispatcher) for driving too fast on our gravel easement road. They ignore it since they are never the same ones again.
Patrick - Best wishes on your upcoming medical procedure and CPAP intro.

It should be noted that the UP/NS merger or buyout has not even been submitted to the STB yet, even though the shareholders from both have approved it. So if approved, it's unlikely to happen before 2027 at the earliest.

Everyone have a super Saturday.

Last Saturday, a customer sneezed in my face. Thursday, I started feeling ill, and went home early. I had a slight fever and felt worse Friday morning, so I stayed home. In between bouts of yuck and trips to the bathroom, I was running some trains to try to keep my mind off how bleah I felt.
I picked up the engines off the layout, started to drop one, then dropped the other while trying to save the first one.
I do feel better today, so I'll probably try resoldering the truck wires.

Morning all,

52° with lifting fog. other wise clear, high today in the mid 70's.

First night with CPAP went ok. Did better than I though with about 2/3 fewer episodes overnight and slept a bunch on my back. Not something I normally do.

Getting stuff ready for my "cleanse" tomorrow. Got to attend the fall musical at the local HS this evening as the grandson is on the tech crew. He's running one of 2 spotlights and helped build the sets. His parents were in the tech crew when they were in HS as was I, although I did play a couple of bit speaking parts. Including one where the drinks were traded out for real scotch except one. When I caught the doing it, I told him he'd get nailed if I choked after belting it down as I was a radio announcer and the drinks were left on the piano behind me. In one practice, I improvised by turning around grabbing a drink off the tray, belting it and the giving my line. Teacher thought it was funny and left it in. So when the main cast hit the real scotch, they were waiting for me to have to spit it out, but I belted the tea and gave my line. They thought I was an alky for sure...lol

Mr Buffett has flat out said no to buying CSX even though in my mind it makes sense. But the thing here is Mr Buffet is also in his last year of running Berkshire Hathaway Inc. and even his anointed successor agrees now, Maybe in a year when the economy tanks further he’ll buy cheap.

Earlier this year I sold the CSX stock but they were 1st approached by UP. Because of the “tepid” response CSX gave to UP they went to NS. I didn’t know that when I sold but CSX did terminate the CEO because of saying no to UP. Anybody now buying CSX would be investment groups. BNSF would keep most of it together. I really thing great access to East Coast ports would be a huge win for BNSF. But I believe in Warren

Step one:
"Find" the soldering iron...
I found a soldering station, though not the one I was looking for. The one I found is a dual-wattage version from Radio Shack I bought about 25 years ago. The pointy end is long gone, leaving only the large round base part that sticks out of the iron. The new, "good" one I was looking for is still lost in another dimension of space and time. With some very careful application of the huge (for N scale) business end of it, I was able to solder the wires back on the truck, and install the truck in the frame. The initial test was successful, then I remembered why the pieces that flew off were not permanently attached to the body. I was able to encourage the shell to go on the frame, placed the now complete engine on the layout, and it's now trundling around pulling a string of freight cars.
So, the only permanent casualty was the shell of the RSD15, and I'll probably do something to make it blend in.

Good afternoon all!

Going to be a gorgeous late fall day today. Currently 68F heading up to a high of around 71F. It is a bit windy, but has
minimal effect on the temperature.

Been a busy day so far. Got the grocery shopping done, laundry is about done, and dishwasher is empty ready for supper
dishes. A few other odd and ends as well.

Time to take advantage of the nice weather and go mulch leaves that are not from my trees.

Have a safe day everyone!

Partially cloudy with sun shining through often. 71F. Tomorrow starts the storminess for a week or a week and a half per the guessers though today it’s showing one or two scattered days with no precipitation. Some days will be in the 60s, some the 50s, while end of the coming week we’ll get highs in the high 40s.

Trying to find my second photography umbrella and get my slave flashes programmed. Haven’t played with this stuff in a few years.

Well, howdy there internet peeps and those who learned which end of the soldering iron to not hold.

It's Troy again

Wrote 1900+ words this morning, then banged out a newsletter to my readers.

Wife wanted a burger for lunch, so off to 5-Guys ... and they were playing the "Crappiest Music of the 80s" CD. Ugh... A beasty boys track we'd never heard was the most memorable... neither of us like the BBs.

Wife made it to the Holiday Bazaar at her mother's retirement community. She came home with lots of desserts. Cookies, Texas sheet cake slices, etc.

I made some Orgeat and Demerara syrup for the Mai Tais tonight with one oops. The Orgeat calls for a splash of Rose Water, and Orange Blossom water. I thought "I can just tip the bottle a little"... and the orgeat is now very "Rosey" in aroma... We'll see how the Mai Tais taste before I dump it.

Also, I put together some more models for the Forces of the Abyss "Busters" force:

The Proton Packs, Wands, and Stay-Puft heads are all 3D printed.
