Good morning from Joysey:

Morning all,

21° and clear going for a high later of 44°. Funny ho wit was above normal for the first part of November and now winter temps have finally hit.

It was a busy weekend and having tomorrow's holiday won't help much in getting stuff done. Wife is already making a list of where to stop to get vet discounts and coupons for meals later. It was kind of fun last year.

Spent Friday help the boy decide on getting his house resided. Insurance company is paying to replace it on the 2 short sides as he has full replacement. However, the aluminum siding to match is 3X the price the company is willing to pay based on their price book (they haven't priced in the tariffs as it isn't made here anymore). Now he'll have to reside the whole house. He can use what they did pay to apply towards the new, but wow, is siding expensive. There was a time I could do it, and have, but can't any longer. He chose to go with a company that is the manufacturer and installer of the product they sell. His house was built in 1953, and while it has sheetrock walls, has no wall insulation. This company has a backer to it's siding that adds R8 to the walls, so that alone will help. I told his mother his house will look a lot different. He had his sister help with his color choices, and while his choice was one she'd have picked, the siding and trim look good together. I reminder her that it isn't the hot pink he threatened...🤣

Got 11 pages to catch up on and it looks to be a busy day..

Try to BBL

Well, howdy there internet peeps and those suffering with snowfall

It's Troy again

We got between 2 and 3 inches overnight, but it didn't stick to the warm pavement. However, our trash bin collected it for us.

Worded about 1400 words this morning. Setting up some clues and red herrings.

Other than laundry, a trip to the grocery for the week's upcoming meals, and who knows what other shenanigans, today should be a quiet day.

Will report on shenanigans later.

I thought I was the only one.
Former die hard Bear fan till they won the Super Duper bowl and the super bowl shuffle video tape that I still have. Had already lived in Wisconsin 11 years when they won. After the win because the nfl network wasn’t created yet I was watching and going to Packer games. So after 50+ years of living in Wisconsin I moved to the other side. I root for the packers every game 1st and the Bears 2nd. I get conflicted when they play each other and playoff games were tough

I caddied for Butkus a couple times when I was high school age. Big man back then and a super nice guy. Can’t say that about too many of the Chicago atheletes I caddied for. If I had an idol it was Bobby Hull of the Black Hawks. That was until I caddied for him even though I had met him a few times. In Summer he advertised cars for dad. But away from my dad and the Chicago Stadium locker room he was a jerk is the nicest thing I will say about him.

Good morning. Been up 3 hours and finally looked in! We are at 21f degrees feeling like 11 only 105 miles north of MIGALYTO, you can have that minus feel Mike. Taking the recycling bins and garbage bins to the curb at 7 though didn’t feel too bad. Thankfully set the alarm for 7 to remind me to take them out. 28 minutes later I can hear one of the trucks, both bins will be emptied by 8:15 rarely later

Today the goal is to complete the double track eastern approach bridge to the swing bridge. I have to tidy up one of the edges, applied the bridge shoes, hit it with a primer coat and weather it. I will then line them up, put in a temporary bridge pier and start working on a finished pier

Household stuff is vacuum the upper level today. The lower level is mostly my cave, office and trains. I let Romba handle that including the train room. The one guest bedroom suite downstairs I will vacuum with a Shark after I dust.

Enjoy your day

Good Morning All. Clear and 29°, for our first freeze of the season. It's supposed to be a one day thing, wind will shift out of the south just after sunset today. Not used to a freeze this early but Mother Nature decided it for us. I made the first fire in the wood-burning heater last night; worked like a champ. I've have used it in this house for 45 years, and the only maintenance has been ash removal and chimney sweeping. Only moving part is the door! I will however, probably install a heat pump sometime within the next 2-3 years, as cutting enough firewood for a season takes me a lot longer than it used to. Time that could be better spent with model trains. Still using the wood that the tornado 18 months ago provided me. I'll be able to carry some of that into next year but I will have to cut some fresh trees later this winter.

Had to finally pull the blue jeans out of the drawer yesterday for puttering around outside. Will need them again today and then back to shorts for the remainder of the week and maybe more. Only problem is that the jeans are one size too big this season. Did a couple of loads of laundry yesterday, including the usual Sunday load of bed linen.

Today starts with the dishwasher and bringing in a resupply of firewood. Then it's off to PT later today, stopping at the pharmacy afterwards.

Out in the train shed yesterday, I did windows. Trimmed off the trim on the bottom of the six windows that jutted out on the concrete windowsills and started cutting and installing the clear styrene glass. I got all of the rectangular pieces cut and glued in. Cutting those arched pieces for the top panes is tough. I did manage to do 3 of them; there's 9 total single units and 4 double units to do. Meanwhile the structure itself got a quick spray of dull coat to seal in the paint and tone everything down. I ran trains whenever my eyes got crossed.

Troy - That's an interesting take on the NFL and their choice of Bad Bunny as halftime entertainment. They need to do something as they have been losing fans for a while now, although not as rapidly lately as they did a few years ago.
Dave in Penn Valley -
I'll only watch the halftime show when Riders in the Sky perform..........
I don't know...but I did see ZZ Top perform a pretty good show back in the 90's when I still watched.
Terry - Too bad about the HOA and the dryer. Even though we have an electric clothes dryer, we use the solar powered one most of the year. Cheap and the clothes just seem fresher.
Swal - I stopped watching most sports long before the kneeling started. I stopped when there were too many overpaid prima-donnas who celebrated just for doing their jobs.

Everyone have a wonderful Monday

Good Morning All!
34F @ 89% currently dark and overcast. Guessers say higher than 47F until Sunday, lows above 36F - we will see.

Brakes are done on the Exp. C-Clamp for the pistons did the trick. Left side ( passenger ) took me less than an hour and those pads still had 1/8 .. 3/16th on them. The Right side caliper did not have any holes/cutouts on the top of the caliper, Left side did. Wonder if heat was the issue of more wear. Replaced them both anywho. Have no clue where my torque wrench is hiding, so off to Mark's a little later to crank them down. Have to clean the MAF sensor as mileage has gone down a tad and we have a slight 'rocking' motion when idling. After that, today is help Maria day.

Did anyone notice that the .gov celebrated the USMC birthday last month on the 10th? Hegseth is a Navy guy, so he has an excuse. JD on the other hand is not, and should have known. Suspect the troops knew, but what the heck, celebrate anyway!

Yep Willie, our first hard freeze here too. Before this, we didn't even get any frost. 29°F here with a few flurries this morning. Wind died down, but wind chill is in the low 20s.

Good morning folks. The pie turned out great, but there's no way 9 slices is coming out of that pan. Worked on my new Busch structure kit until I couldn't continue because the glue hadn't dried. So back to it this morning.

Busch in Germany makes all sorts of kits, both from plastic and laser cut wood kits. This is one of the laser cut wood kits. I love how these go together and the photo realistic card stock usually included. They aren't as expensive as you might first think. This is a model of an 'L' shaped mechanical shop, or warehouse, or even a feed store or fresh food shop.

Test fit of walls before gluing:

Have a great day folks!

I dropped my new toy on the road 2 days ago and it seemed to have damaged the speaker because it has a raddle to it now. At least that what I think happened. I'm not sure. So today I took out the speaker and hooked it up to a computer speaker I no longer use. Plays find with that speaker attached. I ordered two 1 1/2 inch / 4 ohm / 3 W speakers from Ebey to replace the one I took out. $3.00 each. Swal

So I've made some bank recently, with my commissions, off the gun auctions. My wife said to buy something, I earned it.

Here's an out-of-the-box idea I want to get some feedback on.

I have a 2'x 3' diorama base in storage. I've tried N scale, but it was a pain working with the small stuff. I haven't had a continuous run anything in decades. This Unitrack set should be a piece of cake to lay down and I just need to figure out what small train to run on it.

I have a MRC power pack so I guess I could buy a BLI DC/DCC NW2 and get the sound or just buy a DC Kato, Atlas, BLI etc. I was thinking just a small string of covered hoppers and a caboose. Tight curves so I will be limited to small 4 axle engines and cars no larger thans 40'.

Throw some train ideas for this therapy track plan. N scale only ideas.

Tom, I found that to be very interesting coming from a longtime fan, thank you.

I have a question for you. As a diehard Bears fan, particularly the 1985 Bears what are your thoughts on the NFL's all-time greatest defenses?

I grew up watching the outstanding Colts' defenses of the late 60s to 1971. Then came Pittsburgh's steel curtain and Dallas's Doomsday defense. Many "experts" leave all three out and with go either the 1985 Bears or 2000 Ravens.

Personally, I think it is all but impossible to compare as a team's offense has a big impact on their defense. Not to mention rule changes throughout the years and their opponents have a say in it as well.

Happy Birthday Marlin39!

Finally got through all the back pages and finally caught up.

Moving all of my 401K stuff now to Roth IRA. I'm making enough to cover the taxes on the moves. Once I can get full SS without losing as much to taxes, I plan on banking the heck out of that as long as I can stay working. I should be set to not need RMD's at 73. Not yet sure how a 457 account differs from a traditional IRA.

In HO scale, you would only have a circle ( 18" radius ) and that would be iffy. Bigger is better! Well, I guess that 15" radii would work.
