Willie. Our days of attending bonfire night are over. The old days of eating toffee apples and parkin have long gone. The 'Woke Brigade' put a stop to all that. (Here anyway)
The children (and adults) across the park will be lighting fireworks. We shall see them from our lounge window.

Next week is going to be a challenge. There is talk of stopping laying a wreath at our local War Memorial on Armistice Day? The Council do not want to upset Palestinians? We shall see.
Palestinians are descendants of Biblical Filistines, always trying to destroy Israelites, basically up to this day terrorists.

Morning all,

Thanks to the time change, I have an extra hour to do stuff around the house. Got up at 5:00 and already got 2 loads of laundry done, master bathroom cleaned, and breakfast made and dishes done. Been to the the grocery store and back.

Grocery store busy as people getting breakfast stuff as there is a football game going on this morning. So watch parties are breakfast foods instead of chips and other snacks. Their bakery was already sold out, (store opened at 7:00a), as was the pre-packaged juice. I'd like to see Miami win as the only team around here is the chiefs. Think because they have Kansas in their name, but are a Missouri based team, we have to root for them.

Supposed to be 71° later, and still have more to do.

Good morning from Wisconsin. Today is a recovery day from an overload yesterday of Wisconsin Badger sports. Football was pathetic again but for some reason I watched most of the game. That was till Women’s hockey came on the TV at 1. Another tough outing for a severely injury depleted team but they are still undefeated and #1 ranked for the season. The freshmen goalie really played super. Left the house after the hockey game for an early dinner on campus to get to the Volleyball team who are #2 ranked destroy Illinois. As the volleyball was ongoing I was sneaking peaks on the cell phone streaming of the #5 ranked men’s hockey team. When we left the Volleyball the men’s game fans were also leaving. While the venues are separated by about a mile the traffic after the games join up on the Madison roads. A normal 20-30 minute trip home after VB took 45+ minutes.

Today I declined leaving the house at 6 to venture 80 miles to watch the grandson play hockey at 8am. Then at noon and about 6 miles from that rink he has another game. Tonight at 7 he has another game but at the home rink that I should attend. He is having a very good start to the season. He’s played 12 games and has 8 goals, 12 assists and he says 6 pipes. The team is 10-1-1. No overtime or shoot outs in youth hockey unless it’s a tournament. He says he’s having a great time.

The guy I have been weathering intermodal pieces for is sending his daughter over this morning with more pieces and to pick up what I have done. I also texted him a list of things to look for at the train show he is attending today in Wheaton, Illinois. I still am searching for a Scaletrains WC heritage HO scale unit even though I have broken down and purchased the Intermountain version. I am also looking for the ST CN veterans unit at a better price than I can get online. I did have some online retail therapy around midnight last night. I did purchase 1 for myself and 1 for a client the NS 9-40c diesel from Scaletrains. I wasn’t going to buy one for myself but buying the 2 and a few others got me a better discount. It helps to know the newest owner of the hobby shop. If I change my mind I know after weathering it will sell.

I have a drywall contractor coming by the house on Monday. I really like the open ceiling painted black look in the train room. In the last 2 houses and layouts dust and spider webs was never an issue. Here it is. So I am getting a quote to finish the ceiling.

I have to go to the stables and let the horses out. If I ride today it will be late afternoon. It should be mid 50’s here today and mid 60’s the next 2 days. The trees seemed to have dropped all the leaves in the yard around the house. They also don’t seem to be blowing themselves into the woods…

enjoy the day

It was inspired by the CB&Q's Pioneer Zephyr
If you ever get to Chicago, go to the Museum of Science and industry. They have an exhibit of one you can walk through.

Good Morning All. Cloudy and 60°, should reach 80° for the next four days. Maybe rain on Thursday and then more seasonal temperatures for a while.

I had a boring day yesterday, just puttering around the yard. High winds during last week's thunderstorms scattered a number of tree limbs around the yard, so I spent about 90 minutes picking them up and moving them to the ever-growing brush pile. Most were dead from the summer drought, none were more than 1.25" in diameter. Some might be good for kindling once I trim them up so they fit into the shredder. I also ran the electric push mower over some leaf accumulations and bagged them up for tilling into the garden.
Mac - Those old freight cars look just fine to me. At least 1/4 of my fleet is Athearn Blue box or similar vintage.
Yepper, got a few of those. Someone did the detailing and weathering. They look just fine in a long freight train. Fixed two Varney cars yesterday to make them run good. This long gondola was definitely an interesting find:

Metal trucks with working suspension. Picked it up for only few bucks at a train show. Was missing end wall, which i cut off from spare box car end and trimmed it to fit.

Tom-Have you ever gone to this show?

I have meant for years to go to one, but always find an excuse not to. Is it still held monthly?

An example that comes to mind is Tangent. They did a run of 4750 covered hoppers. They did 6 CSX that sold out right away but didn't do more for some reason. The older ones that they did (roads no longer in existence) are still available today.
Tom: You bring up a good point. I have some 4750 covered hoppers, painted/lettered Penn Central from Tangent. I also have other covered hoppers that are similar, from other manufacturers/importers. How many does one need? I have my fill. They keep cranking them out, ignoring "Modern Modelers" needs. Every era has "as built" and "transition" modelers, but even the PRR, which ceased to exist on 2/1/1968, has "modern" modelers...the 1962 - 1968 era was modern for the PRR. Yet Manufacturers ignore that era in favor of as built or transition. CSX and other current era carriers have a large following. Yet much of what I see dates back to the beginning of CSX, or the current collector craze, "Heritage Schemes" Very little current era working cars...Obviously, someone is not watching what sells / what lingers.

Just a thought.

I used to go to one in DuPage County that was held monthly. But that was pre-2000. I’m not sure if this is that show but the-named.

I will check into it

I'll be laying a wreath at our local memorial, and as far as anyone objecting to it. they can, in a friend's words "jog on" Anyone trying to stop me and the group I'll be attending with will find out what it means to upset a bunch of Veterans, in no uncertain terms.

How does a memorial on Remembrance Day commemorating a (mostly) European war 109 years ago, offend the Palestinians? Seriously, who cares if they are offended...Especially when they started this latest war? This is crazy!
It is the way of things here. Even (in certain areas) Christmas, Santa and the like is not allowed to be spoken or written? He is welcome here.

Saying anymore I could get political.

Boris: I love seeing different eras of modeling, however most of the folks that model the transition era for example either have what they need and want or sadly are passing away. Many times when a collection is being sold Its steam thru late 70's yet for some reason manufactures keep making product in this time frame that seems to not move.
Pre order has taken over how things are made and where the interests in the hobby is going, yet some seem to turn a blind eye to what modelers are asking and buying.
I still run my Chessie train and a modern CSX train, one nice thing about being in a club you get to run whatever you bring.
