The twitter issue is a LOT more complicated than it looks
I will not comment as I am not a twitter-head, except to say that most likely those who were terminated were probably not really working for a living to begin with. I say that because the son of one of my friends worked remotely for them and according to my friend only put in 15 or so hours a week. He was terminated.

In the US, as the election draws closer, (the 8th), the Liberal Elite is getting very nervous because the pollsters are indicating they may lose control of at least one house of Congress. The mantra of the liberal media is that it is essential to preserve democracy...but they fear the Populists and their agenda...I always thought Democracy was when everyone had their say, (and vote), and Populists are generally ordinary people who are unhappy with established practices. Apparently, the liberal elite doesn't want to share power with the deplorables.
Well in 2008 the Dems had control of all 3 as they do now. Then housing problem along with other problems. Now high prices on just about everything. Twice they didn't do anything to make things better. Just look at your 401k or similar retirement accounts, better or worse.

Good Morning All. It's clear and 42° here after the cold front finally came through. We missed the storms and devastation yesterday, as the weather geeks correctly predicted, the worst was east of the I-35 corridor. I am just 6 miles west of I-35. Came close though, major rain both north and southeast of my location. I got just 0.2" in the rain gauge. The rain in my county varied from none in Gainesville to over an inch nearby. Some tornadoes about 120 miles east of me, stretching to the LA border. Small tornadoes by Texas standards, but damaging for those affected. No fatalities reported. Here we experienced winds of up to 35 mph briefly, about 30 minutes. While it will only be 66° today, temperature will be in the 80's Sunday through Wednesday. Then some real chilly weather (below 60°) is in store. Time to get the jeans out!:( I anticipate picking all of the green tomatoes Friday to finish ripening indoors.

Early today, we will make the postponed trip to Dallas to drop off my wife so she and my granddaughter can fly out to Cocoa Beach FL to join mom for a "girls weekend" out there. Plane leaves around 2:00 pm. I'm just dropping her off at granddaughter's home, and my other daughter is taking them to the airport while I head over to the LHS to browse.
Supposedly I get an extra hour of sleep tonight, but that normally takes about a week or more to actually affect me.

Thanks for the reactions and comments regarding yesterday's posts.

Lots of time out in the train shed yesterday. I'm feeling itchy about doing some more development. As I have posted before, I have 320' of main line on two levels, along with over 1000' of sidings and industry spurs. Only 2/3 of it has any semblance of scenery on it. All of the main lines and passing sidings are complete, but that remaining 1/3 is not painted or ballasted yet. I had a goal of starting some additional area by 2023, and that time is coming. I'm looking at the upper level for starters and I am eyeballing about a 25' stretch. I am going to put an Ethanol refinery in place, or at least the loading area with the rest being depicted by backdrops and low relief structures and tanks.
For starters, I have the main, siding, and two loading tracks for tank cars, one a siding and one a spur already in place. I have additional switches on the south end for grain hoppers and other types of freight cars, but all track from that switch is just temporary.
View attachment 155319
Right now I just use the area for both car storage and occasional switching which allows me to test the trackwork.
View attachment 155320
Both of the loading tracks are 12 cars long, and I stage 8 cars at a time. 4 loading, 4 waiting, and 4 spaces for maneuvering. The four loading racks are in the center so cars can be shuttled either way. There's also a storage track on the north end that can hold five other cars, either loaded or empty.
View attachment 155321
Over the past few years, I have been building some of the tanker loading platforms that will be used. Three are already complete, I am starting the fourth now.

Presently I have the four loading platforms and a tall tank which I may or may not use. I have a partial Walther's add-on piping kit that I got in an estate sale.
Before I go much further than the platform build, II need to remove everything and install the backdrop over those 2"x2"'s. The pieces are already cut, but right now I have a temporary storage shelf mounted in the way. It's visible in the first two pictures. I have a place for it on the opposite wall above the staging tracks there.

Lawyers - There's two in my family. My BIL has never been in a courtroom. He's trained as a corporate lawyer. He ran the Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) light rail system for 16 years before retiring and going into the light rail/commuter rail consulting business for himself. One of his key clients for the last 14 years is Herzog. He hasn't done anything for them in 5 years, but they still pay him a $60K retainer each year to not do any work for their competitors. He can still do consulting for his clients he had previous to signing the Herzog contract. My nephew is a HR consultant who also hasn't ever been in a courtroom. He mostly gives seminars to corporate employees regarding HR laws and consequences. He also helps corporations negotiate union contracts. He was recently named a partner in the law firm that he works for. Both are pleasant guys who don't fit the lawyer stereotype.
Troy -

I somewhat agree and I have seen in the past months that some of the worst offenders are being removed. There's a few more to go though, on both ends of the spectrum.
Yes it was one expensive mouse nest. I don't know if I am more pissed or more embarrassed by it. I checked the oil the day before and didn't notice the nest. If I buy the right model for a replacement, (mine is no longer sold), I can salvage some parts as spares. If I go with a zero turn, I can only save the battery.
Tom O - Belated Happy Birthday to your daughter. She probably doesn't want to be reminded though.
Yes sir, we even have mountains in Texas where the observatory is. Along with plains, hills, beaches, forests and deserts. A little of everything.
Chad -

You have not mowed in a Texas summer before. Don't worry though, I never leave the property. I also never disconnect the "deadman's switch".
Patrick - I discovered one day that we have heated seats on our Accura RDX. Never knew it until I accidentally turned one on. I thought that there was a fire under the car!
Jeff - I hear you about the pond. Mine is down 9', completely empty. Even two and a quarter inches of rain last week just soaked in with no runoff.

Everybody have a great and safe day.
So Willie I guess you're planning on more pipelines being shut down.
George

Good Afternoon All!
37F and snowing.
Weather guessers said above 35 and rain. Welp:

Good thing ... right? At least after moving the white crap around I can do inside stuff.

Just seen Terry's post: Polyticks - those the ones that carry Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever?
Those that don't want to choose from bad, badder ( if 3 party ), or baddest, you might figure out which is only bad, and vote for them. Do you really want badder or baddest? YMMV.

This isn't a surgical RIF to get rid of the deadwood as so often happens:

Here's a couple of paragraphs:
Elon Musk ended his first week as Twitter’s owner with an indelible mark by slashing, by some estimates, up to half of the company’s workforce with little notice and abruptly cutting off employees’ access to their computers and work systems.

Many employees spent the day tweeting their goodbyes, as Musk revealed brands had begun pulling their advertisements, leading to what he said was a “massive drop in revenue”. He tweeted late Friday the cuts were needed as “unfortunately there is no choice when the company is losing over $4M/day”.

What's interesting about the "Mutter" (instead of Twitter) is how many people are fleeing the platform, or at least setting up other social media. The big worry is about the lack of moderation.

Compared to this site, which is small, with Terry and a few others having to issue dire POLITICS warnings, Twitter is HUGE and the issues facing it are just as large.

The site everyone seems to be going to is Mastadon. But it's not a carbon copy of twitter. Sort of like the quiet cousin who sits in the corner reading books at every family gathering.

The platform is confusing to set up, but I'm liking it, and today's my first day.

If you're on Mutter, and need a new home, reach out to me and I can help you get set up on Mastadon. I'm still learning, but it's easy once you understand the interface and servers ideas. DM me if you do go there, and I'll pass along my username for mutual follows.

"Free Speech" (puts on professor of Journalist hat) does not include the right to come into your home and declare your spouse or your dog ugly (I'm using polite examples, there are worse ones I could use.
No, but it does permit one to offer a dissenting political view or to offer an alternative to a proposal or practice that other individual may disagree with, without the fear that he will be cancelled, shunned, boycotted or otherwise vilified.

Redners, but I would think other stores have them.

Safeway has them https://www.safeway.com/shop/product-details.143150019.html

I bought a private label (store) brand that has 5 1lb. loaves under $5, they are good!

We have not bought them in a month, maybe two. The price is probably higher or the quantity lower.
OK, none of those around. Safeway, I think, is an Albertson's store, so the Acme may have them around here. I have never seen them in Stop and Shop, or ShopRite.

Interesting site is Mastadon. I am not on Twitter and I think many of you understand my feelings about the huckster Musk. He is a genius but…

I am thinking about joining and going with the General server to start. Thanks Troy

Perhaps it's time for a train photo.

A GP38 that is still working for a living:
GMTX SSR 2237_GP38-2W_03-22-2022.JPG

I didn't know it was going to be down in the CN staging area, and I only had my cheap pocket camera with me. Hence the poor photo quality.
Still kicking myself for packing that crappy camera around. It was a one off.

Help/Advice needed.

I want a cell phone that doesn't send information to the CCP. Perhaps a Samsung?

Apple...no. I can't see any way Apple phones aren't compromised.

Earlier this year Consumer Cellular told me I needed to upgrade from a 3G to 4G (LTE) phone, and, perhaps because I threatened to take my business elsewhere, they sent a free 4G phone. Made by ZTE (China). At the time, I just used it not knowing it's almost certainly "CCP enabled," but a bit of research showed it to be true. Thus I have as little personal data on the phone as I can: No email links, no contact data other than first names and abbreviations. Any photos I take with it I upload to a PC via a Linux USB stick temporary install, thus there as few links even there as I can manage. Absolutely NO banking. NO GPS, etc. So, and even though 4G, it's as useless as I can make it.

This isn't as hard as it sounds, as this is positively the WORST device I ever bought. It's a wonder ZTE can stay in business if this crEp is the best they can do. "Western Disposal" could better, it's that bad.

But I need an upgrade, and I need something that doesn't report my every keystroke to the CCP.* I was badly infected late last year--someone was into my banking, email and pretty much everything else, such that I went to that temporary Linux stick and closed out my bank accounts, etc. I didn't boot this PC into Windows for ten months, and even then I expected a Ransomware greeting on first reboot: "Greetings. Send $2,000 dollars in Bitcoin to this internet address with the next 48 hours or we will lock all your files," etc.

{* Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they're NOT out to get you]

Don't want to repeat the mistake. I will still not--ever--put any banking info on a new phone, but it might be nice to use at least something beyond what a flip phone offers. So...any recommendations are welcome. Thanks.

POLITICS.
For the record, I deleted my political post. There was no institutional censorship, only me.

I wrote it thinking more of decency and respect. After further review and thought it could be easily seen as political.

I need to check myself and respect the rules of this forum.

Forgive me if I have offended anyone.

My wife and I have been using Samsung smart phones since 2016. I buy a new one about every other year.

I use banking apps for my phone personal and business accounts. We have not had any identity issues or technical problems.

Even my Samsung smart TV asked me before sharing my information.

I did have one problem; I dropped my first smart phone (Samsung J7 Prime) into a large cup of sugar-free iced tea. I replaced it, but it did work after a few days of drying out and is still working.

Until this year I always bought cheaper models for $200-$400 as opposed to the top of the line. I enjoy my top of the line model, but the others all served me well. I still have a few of my older ones, including my first one. They all still work well.

I am by no means an expert, but that has been my experience.

Good luck!

PS I forgot to mention, I also have a T-Mobile Revel-5G smart phone and it works great too!

TV says game starts at 8pm. I think that means the talking heads start yacking at 8 and the first pitch goes at about 9pm.
Game time was about 8:09pm. That was after a 1-hour pregame show. I would not mind if they had better people. Too much nonsense for me.

The Super Bowl is even worse. Seems like endless hours a talk before the game! They milk every dollar they can from advertisers.
