And on the journalism front: I'm diving back down the Dewey v Lippmann debates of the early half of the 20th century.

that was studied by the political antagonist of the 1930s, and lead to the 1940s... we're seeing their work, and the lessons learned used in the "political media" today.

Since I haven't poked at the Dewey-Lippmann stuff since journalism grad school, I'm having flashbacks to writing papers and reading all of those "studies" and such. Ugh... This may take a while to recover from

In other news, I bought some small 5" shelf brackets to put up shelving above the TV. I want to display my old camera collection. Now I need to get some LED lighting for it. I need to cut the 1x6" board to length and paint them. We'll see if I can get that done today. Maybe tomorrow.

The words are off with "Alpha Readers" looking for plot and character problems before I send it to the editor.

Put about 150 miles on the bike today. Stopped by the County Registrar office and voted on the way home. I noted my cast ballot number on the machine and I'll check it later to see if that ballot number was cast for who I intended it for.
Where are you living? In Holland we stopped voting computerlike due to the possibility of manipulation. We now use old fashion pencil and paper. Counting the votes takes a lot of volunteers and time and in a few cases recounting if it takes 10 or less votes to get more ppl in the chamber.

First track laying test. Unfortunately, I'm just missing a small piece of track to finish the layout. I ordered it. It should be here next Tuesday.

Here you are. My drawing with the main measurements in mm of the end of "my" gondola project.
I managed to get something in 3D Free cad, so this will be the basic to draw the 3D sketch. perhaps not 200 % correct but I don't want a medal, just a car.
Will be continued.View attachment 155327
Be nice to see the sketch when completed, their are a couple of members who I can think of, that will be happy to give it the once over if you want.

I think checking on how the other half think is a healthy idea, because too many people are blinkered and lacking in facts.

The likes of Twitter etc leads to massive stupidity and belief in stupid ideas not limited to swallow a dishwasher tablet and see if it does not kill you. I also avoid celebrities, I sometimes look at the Royals not so much to follow them but to see how they are being reported.

everyone is hammering at the ‘Conservatives’ at the moment and boy they have given them much to have a go at.

I have in the past voted for both main contenders, usually I subscribe to the theory one in power too long is not a good idea, but at present I see no likEly opposition that I can trust At all. my heart is Liberal Democrat my brain says, “Yeah, good luck with that” Not because they cannot get votes, which they can’t, but because in reality too many greedy people are in politics lining their own pockets and the true facts are they do not give a damn about the common people. all they care about is winning the next vote, and staying in power, which sometimes works in the common people’s favour, when it’s voting season.

I live within the law, and would like others to as well, whilst knowing they do not not. We moved to a small village 2 decades ago to separate ourselves from the worst of humanity, so far I have no regrets.
In the US, as the election draws closer, (the 8th), the Liberal Elite is getting very nervous because the pollsters are indicating they may lose control of at least one house of Congress. The mantra of the liberal media is that it is essential to preserve democracy...but they fear the Populists and their agenda...I always thought Democracy was when everyone had their say, (and vote), and Populists are generally ordinary people who are unhappy with established practices. Apparently, the liberal elite doesn't want to share power with the deplorables. Theyare also upset with Elon Musk (who has a habit of pissing off both sides), and his takeover of Twitter. In a liberal elite democracy, apparently, censorship trumps freedom of speech. Musk wants to end censorship on Twitter...that makes him a proponent of hurtful hate speech. Sad thing is...economically, I'm a liberal ....Philosophically, I'm Conservative, so I don't have a political home. The whole thing is crazy when you think about it.

Because of the TV commitments they are not moving the game from 11AM to after 4 when the winds die down and the rain stops.
Reminds me of the Navy - Notre Dame game at Philadelphia in the old Municipal Stadium, in 1962. We had tickets, and my left foot was in a plaster cast (Broken foot from sandlot football). Gameday weather was a full blown Noreaster, so I couldn't go for obvious reasons. The entire game was played in a complete downpour, and the winds brought down the old style wooden goal post on one end of the stadium. Should have been rescheduled, but back then the game must be played.

Good morning!

'Gentlemen! Start your shovelling!'
We are presently sub-zero Celsius, and the snow is coming down. Outside conditions are blizzard like.
The wife just texted me that she made the 20min. drive to work with limited visibility. Glad she made it ok, though.
I'll need to start the shovel work as soon as daylight arrives. I'm hoping it quits snowing soon, but it don't look good.
Could be worse; I could be above treeline.

Chet - I always really enjoy the archived layout photos you lay down. Sad that the layout is gone, though I'm very impressed you took so many excellent photos of it when it was alive.

Willie - I'm also very impressed with the quality layout photos you consistently bring into the shop. Well done!

I have discovered that I dislike model bridges. Seriously!
Especially when the instructions are only online and my printer is history.
This Walthers kit is going to be a tough build:

I need a bridge, so I'll have to force myself to build it. Frankly, though, I have considered a plank laying across a stack of books.
I'm going to have to put my mind into it. The quality of work will depend on how well I'm able to discipline myself. Suppose I'll treat it like a job at work. That's the only way I'll find the strength to put it together.

Last evening, I barely started cleaning up the parts:

And there are a lot of squiggly parts. I need to get it out of the way, so I can work on some building structures, where my heart is at this time.

Well, I don't talk about politics, religion, or lawyers, so I suppose I'll be on my way to shovel a ton of snow.
Have a great day!
Guy: I built one of those bridges for my layout. Take your time. Walthers instructions are not that great, but once you have all the parts cleaned they are somewhat intuitive.

I'm diving back down the Dewey v Lippmann debates of the early half of the 20th century.
Troy: That should be an interesting dive...Walter Lippman was branded as a Communist by the John Birch Society, Dewey was the foil of Roosevelt's New Deal policies. There was much antagonism, other than that, I don't remember too much. Perhaps in my spar time i should also dive into both.
This election, I'm going to exercise my right Not to vote. Not one candidate from either party that I can support. yeah, it's that bad.

Afternoon All,

Today on the layout I finished cleaning track and put some more "weeds and bushes" down. I really like the bushes because they look like there is actual leaves on them! I bought them from Scenic Express but the packaging shows it's from Bachmann. That surprised me:oops:. The material is called Scene Scapes and I got the 10mm tufts. Unfortunately I have only seen them in yellow and red. I need to check the Bachmann site.

Chet- I'm saddened to see your old layout pics knowing that it's gone. I'm sure they effect you too.

Patrick- Sometimes it just seems to go that way.

Jaz- When I saw your "black and tan" I immediately thought of Guinness 😂.

Willie- That seems like it's going to be a massive facility.

Don't forget to change your clocks tonight and I hope everyone has a good night.

You probably can't see the snow falling and the wind blowing in the photo. This is the year's first mini blizzard, though.
The wife has our truck, so I need to walk with my grandson through this mess. Thats so he can enjoy his friend's birthday party.

I've already shovelled that walk once today. I'll do it again later.

Be careful Guy. As we say at the rink when someone falls, “Ice is slppery” so is SNOW

What a day. Posted at a couple sites and sold a few weathered gondolas. Been to the post office to ship them out. But very happy I sold the 4-6-2 SP P4 brass steam locomotive as a “as is” project. Got what I thought it would sell for but what shocked me was all the interested. Posted that on [email protected]. I am starting to have success there again

The rain here has stopped as the Wisconsin Badgers won a miserable football game. 0-0 in Jets/BlackHawks NHL game at 1st intermission. Grandson’s 1st hockey game of the day they won 8-3. He had 4 assists per his mom who handles the score sheet and scoreboard. he plays again 60 miles the other direction from the morning game in 14 minutes.

Waiting for another PayPal and then off to the post office if it’s here in the next 45 minutes.

enjoy the day

The twitter issue is a LOT more complicated than it looks

Musk has money from some minor donors including a russian oligarch via GOP mega-donor Larry Ellison, but the major ones are Qatar, a Prince Alwaleed bin Talal of Saudi Arabia, the rest from Musk and loans that Twitter now needs to pay interest on...

What Twitter was great at was almost instantaneous dissemination of information. This is great for journalists trying to get info out or in from breaking news areas (aka Ukraine).

"Free Speech" (puts on professor of Journalist hat) does not include the right to come into your home and declare your spouse or your dog ugly (I'm using polite examples, there are worse ones I could use.

What critics are afraid Muskrat is going to do (has started doing with his firings) is neuter, shoot, nuke, and castrate the skeletons of the teams that keep the platform from becoming a screaming mob of Alex Jones followers, Q-Anon nutters, and the like. When a site (like here) has rules against, say, biggoted content and some Rapper billionaire shoots their mouth out on that platform with anti-Semitic screeds, it is incumbent on the platform to censor/remove the speech that goes against their standards.

Just as a church would be within its rights to allow guest pastors in to speak, but not allow a "priest' from a radically different religion to waltz in and spew hate, conspiracy theories, or anti-Semitic utterances from either the pews or the pulpit.

Back to the journalism points, Musk is tending in his past comments to indicate that he's going to follow the words of former Breitbart head honcho, Steven K. Bannon, and allow the conspiracy nutters, the seditionists, and the Q-Anoners to "Flood the zone with SH*T" and keep the opposition fighting those storms, instead having a meaningful dialog.

There's another page or two I could write on this. Suffice to say, while I'm still on Twitter, I've set up accounts on other platforms for the day Muskrat officially burns T to the ground and dismantles whatever skeleton still stands. I fully expect it to go full Alex Jones in about a month.
