My experience in talking to vets of various ages in all areas of our country has given me the opinion that VA experiences vary, primarily because there are good and bad VA facilities.
Mike: I second your experience. Philadelphia's VA Hospital was poorly run and had a bad reputation, while Coatesville PA VA Hospital had a good reputation. That was over 45 years ago. I haven't had any experiences with the VA since. Second son is switching his primary to the VA, a time consuming bureaucratic process, He is living in Jacksonville, NC, and working at Cherry Point MCAS.

Afternoon All,

Early posting today because of a haircut appointment. Today I cleaned all the track except for the Engine Service area which I plan to do tomorrow. Nothing else going on my way.

Thank you for the picture likes yesterday.

Dave- Nice videos. My layout is pretty much complete. I still have a friend building dwarf signals for me. I also have the new Walthers Western Lines Tower on preorder but I see it has slipped to the spring 2023 (if we haven't blown each other up by then).

Hughie- Great build.

Mike- That is my thinking about VA facilities. I'm lucky they're good in my area.

Snowman- I think that video should be titled "karma".

TomO- Happy Birthday to your daughter. Neat observatory.

Willie- Very nice job on the build.

Chad- There's one hospital locally that if I was dying in front of it I would go to another. Observation based while working as a PM.

I hope everyone has a good night.

Good morning. Another overcast day but I guess I had better get used to it as winter is on the way. Different weather here than at my old Place.

Dave - Those photos are from my old club in Livingston, MT. One of the member's wife got photos from the Museum of the Rockies in Bozeman and scratch built almost all of the buildings in that part of the layout which is Gardiner, MT set in the 30's. She did a fantastic job.

Hughie - Like the job you did on the Brewery. Excellent.

Willie - Saw the weather moving into your area. Stay dry. The Diner is coming along nicely.

Going to post a few from the archives and make lunch. Didn't know they still made Moxie. Took this photo in Virginia City, MT last summer.

Later

that was one expensive mouse nest
Troy - for a few years I had our rider (John Deere X-304) (has 4 wheel steering, meaning the back wheels have a locked differential and turn opposite the front wheels) parked under a tarp in the woods all winter. It smelled some when I untarped it in the spring and sure enough, mice had all sorts of stuff stuffed up under the engine housing.

Surprisingly, the battery has held a charge for 4 years now and was used when I got it. It was a little slow this fall but air temp was cold, thinking it may last another year.

We are home! 2 hours 52 minutes flight time from Scottsdale, Arizona to Middleton, Wisconsin and 15 minutes more from there.

One of the telescopes built in the 1930’s and installed by Hubble himself at the McDonalds Observatory in Texas. The picture is from the son but he did not ID the guy to the right.

Home to a welcome group of train items posted already in the RPO. Something I seldom do, is sleep on a plane. Terry says I slept over an hour. I feel fine and surprised to be rested

Jeff: FWIW, I subscribe to both the online edition of the NY. Times, and the online edition of the Washington Post. My main reason, it that without hysterical hype and drama of TV news, they tell me the news, and not what I want to hear. Both are far to the left of my spectrum, but I factor that into the reporting. TV news is pure BS, that cover celebritys, and other non informative features while ignoring any real news that doesn't fit into their agenda.
I think checking on how the other half think is a healthy idea, because too many people are blinkered and lacking in facts.

The likes of Twitter etc leads to massive stupidity and belief in stupid ideas not limited to swallow a dishwasher tablet and see if it does not kill you. I also avoid celebrities, I sometimes look at the Royals not so much to follow them but to see how they are being reported.

everyone is hammering at the ‘Conservatives’ at the moment and boy they have given them much to have a go at.

I have in the past voted for both main contenders, usually I subscribe to the theory one in power too long is not a good idea, but at present I see no likEly opposition that I can trust At all. my heart is Liberal Democrat my brain says, “Yeah, good luck with that” Not because they cannot get votes, which they can’t, but because in reality too many greedy people are in politics lining their own pockets and the true facts are they do not give a damn about the common people. all they care about is winning the next vote, and staying in power, which sometimes works in the common people’s favour, when it’s voting season.

I live within the law, and would like others to as well, whilst knowing they do not not. We moved to a small village 2 decades ago to separate ourselves from the worst of humanity, so far I have no regrets.

What's black and tan, and looks good on a lawyer?

A Doberman.

Do you know why you never hear about sharks attacking swimming lawyers?

Professional courtesy.

A tour bus full of lawyers crashed in a farmer's field, killing everyone on board. When search parties arrived on the scene, they found the farmer had already buried the victims to prevent his cattle from getting sick from the corpses.
They asked the farmer if he was sure all the lawyers were dead, and he told them, "Some of them said they wasn't, but you know how them lawyers lie all the time!"

Why did the lawyer cross the road?

To get more billable hours.
Correction what’s Black and Tan and looks good on a lawyers throat…the same Doberman…..

Mine comes with a large cup holder and would take a beer, but I do not drink beer neither does the other half, but th cab is nice and warm and air conditioned, the radio keeps you cmpany and it has a buddy seat - not John Deere though, kubota bright orange.
My tractor came with only 1 cup holder, so I added 2 beer holders. The way they SHOULD have designed it in the 1st place for us homeowners/gentlemen farmers............... And it was a burn day today. No train stuff to report.

Why I like heated seats...

While getting groceries, started raining hard just as get out of Aldi's. They don't bag, so the groceries in a couple of boxes in the back of the Equinox. They tumbled all over the back as I got to Dillons (Kroger). No problem, I'll fix them when I get out. As I start out of Dillons, wind sticks up and really let's loose. Sideways rain and of course I parked with the back of the car toward the rain. All groceries are wet, I'm soaked, bottle of soda somehow comes out of a six pack and rolls under the car, making me even wetter. Got the stuff tossed in, get into the car, get my soaked jacket off, and toss it on the floor. 39° at the time, so the wet is cold and wet is miserable. Turned on the heated seat and a few minutes later, feel the heat. Warm and wet is better than cold and wet.

Gotta go back out to get the boy's dog to a post surgery appointment. She's not going to like either the vet or the wet weather. We do need the rain badly, so I won't actually complain about the wet.

Well howdy there internet peeps

It's Smokin! Troy again

Live (ish) from the Kamado today: A brisket flat (the part I like best, and I don't have near as many leftovers as I do when I get a full packer.)

Brisket.jpg
Temp is running around 300° f so it was foil boat time at internal of 150°

The tin pan has some of fat I trimmed off. I've been rendering it down for tallow. I poured some on top when I put the brisket in the fil boat. I'll add the rest of the rendered tallow, when I wrap it for a rest.

Thinking I'm going for 185 internal temp this time. I've been doing 200 and it's not as tender as I'd like. Hmmm... we'll see...

After my conversation with the friend from the "other camp" yesterday, I decided I'd better get out and vote on my way to the grocery. (Early voting going on... same as election day, but in less locations.)

I was impressed. There was a line 20 people long when I showed, and they had 8 polling stations in use. Took me about 25 minutes to get to a station.

I rarely hit straight party... but I did. If you follow my hints, you'll understand why. But in Indiana, and not in a district where that party has much sway, we'll have to see how it goes on election day.

Surprisingly, I know one candidate. He is a former photography client of mine and used to host a political talkshow on the interweb. Former cop and military. And no, it's not the incumbent. Chances of him winning... maybe 10 %... Like I said, this is Indiana.

School board was the toughest to pick. Really had to do a lot of reading between the lines. Everyone has buzzwords in their stances, and a lot of generalities. I looked for former educators, figuring they'd have a better understanding of how a classroom works, and what teachers need from the administration to have a successful classroom
