Interesting (to say the least) few days here.

I've been selecting a short list of possible used replacement trucks for the RAM 2500 I bought, then totaled back in January. Narrowed my search down to Tundras, and further down to Generation one and Gen two (just due to cost). Found three likely candidates and eventually ran three thru a mechanic highly recommended by my truck-buddy guru. $250 a pop for a deep dive pre-purchase inspection each time.

Had it down to just two, and then, suddenly that third one popped up one early morning. I re-juggled the whole day to have it looked over. Fantastic truck on paper and in person. Until the mechs looked it over underneath. They said $10K to get it straightened out. Yeesh.

On PAPER this was a nearly perfect truck. Carfax 11 pages long, 71 entries and every known issue with the truck dealt with well in advance.

So I ran it up for that third PPI almost on the fly. Borrowed a loaner vehicle from the mechanics for a few hours....and now the whole thing goes downhill.

-----

On the way back (driving the loaner vehicle to pick up the target truck after inspection) I ran into a "poorly marked (?) construction zone. Poorly marked? No, not marked at all. Two lanes of cars going thru a green arrow suddenly have to funnel into one at the exit of the turn, because the outer lane is completely blocked off. No blend line of cones, no "right lane closed ahead," not even a "Road Work Ahead" sign. Zero-zip-Nada until both lanes arrived on the scene (the line of cones) to find one blocked off almost literally straight across.

General panic ensued, two lanes into one with ZERO warning, and in the end the loaner vehicle I was driving came off the worst. A minor bumper tap with the car ahead probably totaled the loaner car.

And when I say minor I really mean it. The SUV I bumped (2-3 mph) had a bike rack hanging off the back, and when the owner and I looked it over he said "the paint (on [my] bike rack) isn't even scratched." We both agreed: Not a hint of damage to him...but the front bumper came off the loaner car I was driving (an old Honda Accord) and to repair it--at modern body shop prices--effectively totals the car. Utterly ridiculous, as all that happened was that the {soft flex) front bumper popped upward under the low impact, and all the clips came undone. Meh.

More follows. Roll your eyes and move off if it gets boring. I won't be offended.
After totaling the RAM truck, then totaling the loaner, you might want to consider letting someone else drive. 😜
I would hope your insurance company is non the wiser.

I spent (and AM spent as a direct result) many hours online and on the phone with (my bank's) fraud prevention investigators over the course of the last twenty four hours. Just about 24 as I type this now, in fact. I think we have pieced his scheme, presentation and method together reasonably well now, such that the real bank fraud division and I both understand how he did it. His activities inside the bank's own systems, and his ability to compel their own systems using my own real I.D. as a prompt are somewhat clear now. He was able to manipulate their own systems to generate not only a new card, but a new card their own systems would recognize as real and legitimate.

Perfectly understandable. He was able to use the bank's own system to generate the cancer within....and because the bank recognized it, itself, has generated the new card, the bank's system bought it too, hook-line-and-sinker.

Yeah, I'm Elon Musk's next best customer: "Tesla, er 'Calgon*'...take me...no drive me...away...".

[* an old bath soap commercial from about 1970. Calgon...take me away....]

Check your bank's policies. I think mine said they will never call. They send me a notification that I have a message and I call or I go online.
Yes, the bank policy did say that, although when "they" (he) called I couldn't remember the policy...so even though skeptical in almost all things, I finally did pick up a call. Which led to all the rest. Meh indeed.

Well, howdy there internet peeps and those with words of one sort or another.
It's Troy again.

I found this little fellow out in the wild. Hopefully it will follow me home.

Took most of my Nscale cork back to the LHS and was able to return it with a restocking fee. Picked up some minor things like rail joiners and track nails. Have the rest of the return on a store gift card. Unfortuantely, all the store has in stock right now is a bunch of gondolas, hoppers, and some tank cars.

I'm in the market for 40 and 50 foot box cars. I know most 40ft boxcars were phased out by the 80s, but a few won't hurt, and will handle the 18 to 22" radius curves.

I've got a box of the Woodland scenics foam roadbed on order and a couple of Atlas #6 code 83 turnouts on order.

Good Morning All!
50F @ 67% and somewhat clear. Rain later today of which is OK with me. Forest needs wet.

@Snowman Yup, makes for a crappy day. In my case, none of my banks will call me wanting to do anything. Well, did have Montana 1st give me a call and asked me to come into the branch. Everything is done by mail.

And ... keylogger? An obfuscated link that you clicked on got you that. They don't just jump in your machine on a whim. Never, ever click on an eMail link without deep thought. You can check it out in most eMail clients by 'Viewing Source' and wade through some of the geek that is there. The message says it is from 'MyBank.com'? That URL will be in the Email source as a 'From'. If it is something like MyBank.com.Something.Else.com - crap, just delete it. Also that 'Machine Language' that shows every once-in-a-while is not Machine Language - It is HTML scripting that the web server did not render correctly or completely. It is a short screen splash that the server regenerates pretty quick and you are back to reading again.

While at it - web sites are another very suspect place to get in trouble .. fast. Any link in them can be 'hovered' with your mouse, and the actual link text will show up; most of the time bottom left of your browser screen. If doesn't relate to the website and wants to take you to that shiny city in the sky, pass it by and don't click it.

Finally found out - Lil is a Nigerian Dwarf; milk goat. Will be slightly longer and taller than a Pygmy, but thinner. Pygmy is a 'meat goat' and they do get pretty wide....

Time to be a hero again. Go and rescue beer trapped in a bottle!

Good morning. 61°F this morning and once again overcast. Looking for maybe 69°F so I might consider cutting grass...if it hasn't rained by the time I feel like cutting it.

I've been comparing photos and digging in my memory about that P99 I tried dying. As I wrote a day ago, it did not turn black like I was hoping, but, it does look like a darker green now. It no longer looks like olive drab, but more of a jungle green, or a forest green. It is definitely not olive any longer, and at certain angles and under certain lighting, it is very, very dark. Moreso than the factory molded color.

We haven't had any sun here for days, so as soon as I get some I'm going to set up the P99 in the same light and location I took a 'before' photo and compare the two under the same conditions.

Have a great Friday! Servus!

Yesterday I got an email from my bank, with an attachment, and wanting me to click a link to get a code to open the attachment. I checked thoroughly, and the address did go directly back to my bank. Since I'm such a trusting sort, I called the bank anyway using info stored on my phone, and after playing 20 questions from the AI they now have answering call, I was able to talk to a real human being.
It turned out it was a copy of my bank statement that I had requested a couple of weeks ago, and it was safe to click. The human said calling them was definitely the thing to do, because the 5 minutes spent doing that is a lot less trouble than trying to undo something a scammer may have done.

Good morning Everybody!

I'm enjoying this cool weather, thank God. No AC, no heat and it is a comfortable 70 degrees with 60% humidity at my desk. Why is it i feel comfortable at 70, but cold at 79 with the AC on? One of the many mysteries of my life.

With my Birds having the day off I followed much of yesterday's Nationals - Mets game on MLB.com. :D I couldn't wait to play the replay this morning. I would have liked to see the Nationals win, but - I love a pitcher's duel!

How about Washington's young starter Cade Cavalli! First, he mows down the Orioles and now the Mets; 7IP, 4H, 2ER, 1BB & 9Ks. He deserved to get a win, but without more run support it didn't happen. This big young horse has figured it out. He gets the hitter to two strikes and usually finishes them off quickly!

@TLOC I hear you about the price of soda. I just bought 6-Canada Dry sugar free ginger ale for $4.79. I was waiting for a sale that never came and I can't run out of soda! I tried some sugar free 2 liters from Walmart; cola, some kind of 7-Up and Mountain Dew knocks offs. So far, they are all good and only $1. But I like the 16.9oz bottles to take in the bedroom with me. I tend to knock the bottle over with my decrepit hands when i reach for the soda at night. The lid saves me the mess a cup would make.

Have a great day Everybody!

good morning all!

Happy Friday!

A gloomy, cool morning out there. Its 55F but the winds are blowing at 14mph so it feels much cooler. They say the high is supposed to
reach 70F but I don't think it will get that warm. I was thinking about uncovering the pool but will hold off on that till tomorrow when its
sunny and in the 70s.

Was on a few hours earlier and the forum was in its wonky stage again so I gave up after fighting out a posting in the History thread. It
seems to have settled back to normal now.

Just puttering around the house this morning doing usual stuff.

have a safe day everyone!
