Friday, Joan and I celebrated 45 years being together. Still stuffed from great dinner. I was married to my first wife for 18 years and when I graduated from High School, I went straight into the Air Force. I have never lived by myself, never had a room mate, and never cooked an evening meal in my life. But I do like model railroading, so that says a lot
Congratulations! We're hitting 40 years at the end of July.

My week is continuing. I’m attempting to browse Fleabay for a replacement screen, but they seem to have a problem with my ISP. Or, they just don’t like Apple stuff. I’ve temporarily given up after being blocked by security measures on 4 different browsers and 3 different Apple devices.

Good Afternoon All. It made it up to 76° just before 10:00am this morning, then the rain started. Not sure exactly when because you can't tell from inside our church with all of the stained glass. Rained all of the way home around 10:40ish. 0.3" in the rain gauge when we got home. It's now 66° with another wave that will be here in a few minutes. I'm headed out to the train shed to ride out what appears to be light showers for maybe an hour.

Good afternoon gang!

Another HD run this morning. Wife wanted to use the hose to plant flowers, but the male end of the hose broke off in the sprayer handle. So a male end and a new sprayer later I return home and find the roto-tiller is sitting in the vegetable garden and a sad little blond is complaining that it wont start. I set the choke and pulled the starter cord and it started. Next thing you know I have tilled the 14x20 veggie garden to a fine fluffy mix. This is how she ropes me into stuff.

Going to try to take it easy this coming week. Son #4 (the youngest) graduates from college this coming Saturday,, and Sunday we have tickets for the Nascar All Star race in Dover Delaware.

Try Amazon. I got a whole lid kit, hinges and all for my Dell G3. It came with the lid, screen, new bezel, hinges, and OEM adhesive strips for the monitor. Been working great for nearly two years now and not one dead pixel.

I get it. Terry was being pre-emptive. The thread was drifting too far into the realm of politics & politicians.

I was teetering on breaking my own rule about keeping my opinions on politics and religion personal.
It seems religious preferences/statements get far more leeway on this forum than political statements.
And I'm not going to say thats good or bad either.

At least we can talk about little toy soldiers and real firearms.

Question for the 2A crowd... the last time I looked at ammo was during the pandemic. Just having moved back from California, I wasn't going to risk driving cross the US and hitting all the various state laws on transporting firearms and ammo. I gave away the little bit of 9mm and 22LR I had in Los Angeles. Then shipped the firearms.

Looking for ammo a month later was "HOLY H E Double-Toothpicks!" I might as well have tried to purchase Toilet Paper a month into the pandemic.

I did eventually get 100rounds of home defense for my 9mm.

I figure it's about time to up that quantity.

Are prices stable now? Or should I be watch and wait for a price drop?

PS: Popcorn for dinner. Used Ghee in my fancy new little microwave popper.

If people start making in-depth posts about all the whys and wherefores, and how someone will have rewards or consequences of their actions and beliefs in and of a religion, that stuff will be gone in a flash of light, as well. I have deleted many posts of that nature, and outright banned people over them.

Hi Troy, ammo has had a large price spike during the fuel price increases. Ammo, being heavy for it's size really got clobbered, then ammo companies had component price increases due to the war in Ukraine and the EU starting several new policies that really affected many powder producers having to revamp formulation of gunpowder. So, a "perfect storm" hit us on ammo prices. Thankfully things are starting to even out again with some prices seeing drops, but it is not ever going to be pre-pandemic prices again.

SGammo.com is where I bought case lots of ammo when I was buying. We're never going to see .13/rd 9mm or .04/rd 22lr ever again. A pound of smokeless powder is about $50 now. Nitrocellulose is in short supply for commercial use since the primary user right now is the military contracts.
I heard from the owner of our shop that prices will probably be going up in June....again.

I have a cousin who is 80 years old. He has never cooked anything on a grill in his entire life and has a small microwave he keeps in his shop, not in the house, because he read somewhere that microwaves can explode. He still does laundry on Mondays because that is the day that everyone should do laundry according to him. In the past, many years ago, Monday was usually set aside as laundry or "wash" day, thus his habit. He was married once in his life, when around the age 23, for 2 years and has a daughter he has seen twice in the last 50 years. Somewhere around the age of 19 to 21 he was in the Army with an honorable discharge. He is also what I call a functioning alcoholic usually getting drunk twice a day. He says he is lucky in that he always had a "taste" for cheap whiskey instead of the more expensive brands. He has smoked all his life and never had a DWI
( DUI in some states). He is indeed a unique individual......a walking medical miracle. He is about 28 in the waist, weighs around 105 and the only medical proceedure he has ever had done is a stint in his heart about 7 years ago. He also plays guitar ( 6 string and bass) and the piano and organ.
Oh well, don't know exactly what got me going down the road on family history here.

Just for your future benefit:

Federal law protects you while transporting firearms through otehr states. As long as you enter the state, drive through, and leave again you're protected. You a stop to eat, a hotel, etc. You can't stop and do non-pass-thru things like visit Disneyland or whatever. There are some rules as to how things are kept etc. You can look it up. I've also pasted the Google AI answer below. When we moved form New England to Utah I passed through all kinds of states with all kinds of toys in the back.

In terms of buying ammo now. Buy it when you find it. Unless you are buying large amounts, buying locally is your best bet as it's expensive to ship. If you're buying 1000-2000 rd cases etc then shipping becomes worthwhile. A couple 20 or 50 rd boxes and it's buy local.

Google AI Answer:

Under 18 U.S.C. § 926A (the Firearms Owners' Protection Act), individuals may transport unloaded, locked, and inaccessible firearms across state lines, even through restrictive states, provided they are legally allowed to possess them at the origin and destination. The gun must be in a container and, while generally applied to continuous travel, the law protects necessary stops for food or fuel.

Key Federal Requirements (FOPA - 18 U.S.C. § 926A):
  • Legal Possession: You must legally own/possess the firearm at the starting point and legally be allowed to possess it at the destination.
  • Unloaded: The firearm must be unloaded.
  • Locked Container: It must be in a locked container, such as a hard-sided case, and placed in the trunk or an area not readily accessible from the passenger compartment.
  • Ammunition: While not strictly required by federal law to be in a separate container, it is highly recommended to store ammunition separately, especially if travelling through states with strict laws.
  • Continuous Transit: The journey should be continuous, with only necessary stops (e.g., fuel, food, hotel).

Important Considerations & Caveats:
  • Not a Carry License: FOPA only protects transport, not concealed or loaded carry.
  • Local Law Enforcement: Some local jurisdictions may not honor FOPA, and you could be arrested, requiring you to use FOPA as a legal defense.
  • Air Travel: The TSA has strict rules for flying with firearms, which require declaring the firearm, unloading it, and using a hard-sided container.
  • Proposed Changes: As of May 2026, the ATF has proposed a rule to clarify and expand protections for travelers, including overnight stays in hotels.

It is highly recommended to check specific state and local laws, especially if you plan to stop for an extended period in a strict state like New York or New Jersey.
