Well, howdy there internet peeps and those smarter than the average bear!

It's Troy again.

About to go shower, head out for a donut, then come back and prep for a video interview for the Cozy Mystery Book Club at 10 am.

The background behind my desk - the area that would be "in shot" - isn't good for cozy mystery. So I have to set up a folding table or two in the TV watching crew lounge. Need to put the faux-fireplace behind me with books on the mantel.

I did make progress on re-basing the civil war figures:

What I've gotten re-based, with Vallejo pumice putty:

What's on the workbench in progress. Black bases are awaiting pumice putty, the pretty brown bases need to be cracked, cleaned up, and glued to new bases.

And what's left to go. Fortunately, the gent I got these off of painted up a mess of Iron Brigade. So, once this rebasing is done, I'll be far enough along on the Union side, to turn my attention to Johnny Reb and his succesh buddies.

Gave a bank check to the Funeral Home yesterday for $10,705.00 to cover the cost of the funeral when I pass on whenever that maybe. I didn't want my brother or sister have to go through any type of financial burden when that should happen. Hopefully it will be years from now.

Good morning all,

Hazy this morning but no rain in the forecast.

Decided to cut my hair this morning, putz with the firewood, spend some time in the train shed enjoying the new scene.

Life is a bit better since switching to mineral spirits as a track cleaner, the trains run noticeably smoother.

Good morning from the heat of Las Vegas. 76f degrees now and 106+ later. Dry heat my backside, it’s hot and not fun if the car is left in a parking space with a roof.

The doctor said he didn’t trust my brother to follow orders yesterday so they kept him overnight. I think I’m happy for that. I was told come to the clinic at 11am as he will be fed and exercised twice by then. Sounds like the way Terry handled her horses in the past. He was feeling pretty good when I left at 8pm last night, a long day for both of us! They served decent food at the clinic yesterday. But I wanted a sandwich when I got home last night. I gobbled together some food but if I’m here for a few more days I need something in the refrigerator. My brother and his g/f eat out a lot but I’ll head to a grocery I saw nearby.

His pool was re-filled by a tanker truck! The pulley assist system is in place. I checked water temperature in the pool just dipping my feet, not swimmable for me. Later talking to the g/f she told me how to check the temperature on the computer, it was 64f degrees last night, 66 this morning. I have the pool heater on. It should warm up pretty good today. I have opened the sun shade sails to let the sun in! What I learned is he will be visited by a PT in the morning and later in the afternoon for 2 weeks for 90 minute sessions. They want him moving and walking in the pool at least 2 other times in the day for 30 minutes each. Walk, walk and more walking. After a doctor visit Tuesday they will add light weight lifting to his routine.

Terry and the brother’s g/f will be back tomorrow morning. Her last medical in Scottsdale is at 4pm today.

Terry purchased some Circe tickets for Sunday night. Not sure what show and while I’m not a huge fan the shows are always interesting. She did say she wants to play some slots after. Neither of us have been in a casino and played since 1/2023. Neither of us miss it. I stopped playing cards at the Wisconsin casinos around 1995. We went just about every Friday night and Sunday morning after the son left in 2006. Before that just Friday night late 10pm to 2am. Always looked forward to it.

Enjoy your day

Noticeable? How so? I’ve never gotten sparks (except for a short) so it seems better to you…

Do you also use graphite?

I still use the 70% Isopropyl Alcohol and then add graphite. I have plenty of orderless mineral spirits I could switch to. When I ran more I’d go 6 months between track cleaning. Now I’m cleaning every couple months

Good Morning All!
51F @ 67% with severe clear. To be in the mid 80's later. Tomorra upwards of 90F, then cool down to mid 70's from Sunday on...

We do not remember it being in the mid 80's in May since we have been here. Can't wait for August as that is when we *usually* get hot - 105+ sometimes for a week or so. So starting earlier to do outside stuff as I just don't do the heat anymore. All the animals agree too, stretched out on the floor when above 80F. At least it still cools down ( mid 40's ) at night.

Welp, the cats have taken to bringing in Fir Cones for some reason or t'other. 2 inch things that are land mines - just wait until you step on one when it is 0P:30 and dark.

Good morning folks, 66 here and sunny, supposed to hit 82 today. Gotta go in to the gunstore at 1 to cover for someone taking off early, then work all day tomorrow. Got a couple of Roundhouse cabeese assembled last night, three more on the the bench for tonight. Still cannot reach a fellow about a HO TTrak module so will just concentrate on the N scale one. Y'all be good.

Good Morning All. Mostly cloudy and 63°. The rain in the forecast for 3:00 am was close. I was awakened by a cool shower for the second time this week...had to close the nearby window around 2:15 am. Prior to that the cool breeze from the north was refreshing, at least when I went to bed. Temperature in bedroom was 75° when I went to bed, 70° when I closed the window. Only a quarter inch in the gauge this morning. Cool weather (for us) continues with no temperature above the upper 80's for the next ten days; or so says the usually unreliable NWS.

The weekly grocery trek went OK yesterday, store had everything that was on my list. An additional stop at Home Depot for a new 230v breaker and outlet was easy. I've probably got a used outlet somewhere, but a new one was only $7, so why take a chance. I've also probably got a cover plate but didn't get another one since that's not critical. Outlet box is already in place. Later in the afternoon, I was able to mow several more critical parts of the yard, the back yard around the pool and the SW portion above the septic leach field. The grass there always seems lush! With a little bit of breeze and some sunshine, I might be able to get the expansive east and south sides later this afternoon. The erratic weather this year has disrupted my usual mowing pattern.

About all that I got done out in the train shed yesterday, was to wire up the outlet and breaker for the new A/C. Wiring was already in place, so I didn't need to venture into the attic to run that. At least I planned that right. Outside I moved some stored pallets away from the window so we have easier access tomorrow. Since there is a 7' overhang for an eventual (I hope) front porch, the ground is dry.

Patrick - May is historically our wettest month, with 11 rainy days and 4.5" of rain. This year we're ahead on rainfall with 7.35", but with only 6 rainy days. I had over 15" in 1982.
Marlin - Your wife's experience with the knee replacements is pretty much the same as my wife's, except my wife was a couple of years older. But then the first knee developed an infection which required two additional surgeries to remove the replacement and add a temporary plastic spacer infused with antibiotics. Them 8 weeks later to put a new Titanium replacement in. So, 4 surgeries to get 2 knees. The infection was 3 years after the first surgery, but was probably there the whole time.
Tom O - Medicare sent a home therapist out to assist my wife twice a week for 8 weeks following all of her replacements. Not sure why your brother's treatment is handled differently unless knees and hips are treated differently. EDIT: I just read your morning post today.
That's a pretty good return on the Boeing stock. Sadly for you, Terry was right. It was well above $400/share in 2019 before those 737 MAX crashes. I believe that it is around $200/share right now.
Joe - You're turning on the heat while I am turning on the A/C. Such a contrast.

Everyone have a fabulous Friday.

Osteomyelitis? My wife had a lot of dental work and the common Streptococcus Mitis bacteria in her mouth got in her blood stream, entered her heart and caused Endocarditis, then migrated to the bone marrow in her L4 & L5 (osteomyelitis). Almost lost her. I did the daily infusions into her PICC line for 6 weeks after being discharged from the hospital. She told her ortho surgeon, at her 1 year follow up for the second knee, and he said it does happen with joint replacements gone bad.

Sweet potatoes - We're in zone 8a due to our elevation.

Good afternoon all. A double Oban Scotch please, Flo.
Dawn as just received a telephone call from our daughter. The area she and family live as been cordoned off by the Police. Apparently a hand grenade has been found. Because of the cordon daughter and family cannot enter their house. Will we be getting visitors tonight?

It is Fish for dinner tonight. There is only two fish. Better make it now in case we do get visitors. 🤣

Just on the surface, it sounds like a bit of overreaction. If the pin’s still in it, carry it somewhere to dispose of safely. If the pin’s not in it, it shouldn’t be an issue after about five seconds or so.

I am guessing, but could there be more grenades etc.etc. and the Police are checking the area. Like I say the place is cordoned off, so a case of wait and see.

Willie, Terry is often right on many things other than the stock market! I don’t always admit it though. Maybe because she is in Arizona and I’m in Nevada I have not yet gotten the good natured “I told you so”. Still it was a good return. I kept 1/2 sold the balance

My brother does use Medicare but has additional custom policies for himself and the girlfriend. Even if he’s paying out of pocket he can handle it.

I reviewed CASY(Casey General Stores) DIS (Walt Disney) and DE (John Deere) this morning. Leaving those alone

Happy Friday.........

The county sheriff showed up at my door around 1 pm toady. I asked could I help him with something and he told me he had been called out to my place on a "wellness check". I told him I was just fine and probably someone had called due to the fact I have not mowed my property this year. Between the days I don't feel like doing much, the rain and drafting work, mowing has taken a back seat to other priorities. I asked who had called and he said he did not know that he was just dispatched on a wellness check. If I'm concerned about someone, I usually just give them a call and if no answer after a couple of days, I may take more drastic action. Oh well, I guess I should be grateful someone around here cares.
Now I guess I need to get the battery charger out and hook it up to the lawnmower. Please don't mention a battery tender as the place I store my mower has no electricity nearby. I use a 100' extension cord to hook up the battery charger. I'll need to get the weed eater going also.
So much to do and so little energy and time. Between work and other priorities, my programming job on the ESU decoder has lasted well over two weeks.
I'm late for a nap now. 😆

Everyone have a great weekend.

John
