Good Morning All. Cloudy and 65°. While the rain has been removed from today's forecast, there's a 60% chance tonight but only at 0300. No real change in our ever-changing 10 day forecast. They're usually but not always good for 3-4 hours at best at this time of year.

I did get to mow the NW corner of the yard yesterday, the only area where the ground was firm enough to drive the tractor on. That would include the area around the garden, train shed and bordering on the hay field and pond. Unfortunately that's not where it's needed the most and it's really low on my priority list, but it is at least done. I finally got most of the water pumped off the pool cover yesterday. I'll remove it this afternoon before it can potentially catch some more rain. Looking at the imaginary weather forecast, I don't see that the water will warm up enough to use the pool for at least a week.
I got an unexpected E-Mail around 4:00 yesterday afternoon informing me that the train shed A/C delivery had been switched to UPS and wouldn't arrive until today. Last night I received another E-Mail stating that it had delivered on Thursday, except the E-Mail was sent on Wednesday??? Something's wrong here!
Weekly grocery trek is this morning. I have a list but it's only about half of what I usually get. My wife is leaving Saturday night to overnight at my daughter's house, and they're headed out Sunday morning for South Padre Island along with our other daughter's family for a week-long stay. I'll have the granddogs here while they're gone. SIL and one grandson are coming with the dogs to help install the A/C. Other than girl watching, I have no desire to sit on the beach for 7 days. Maybe Elon will launch a rocket for them while they are there...the SpaceX launch site is very close and can be seen easily from their condo.
Later this afternoon, I should be able to mow some additional acreage and use the weedeater where needed.

Out in the train shed yesterday, I found the last car, according to my database, that has the old McHenry couplers on it. For those who may not be familiar with them, they came in two styles.

Some came with whiskers and some were made to use the Kadee brass centering spring. While they are to be commended for being the first (that I know of) to use the whisker centering method, their shortcoming besides being made of plastic was the actual coupler spring. It tended to straighten out after several backing or bunching movements and no longer forced the coupler face to close.
Here's a "sprung" one.

I have saved all of the good ones, along with all of my plastic wheelsets and horn-hook couplers because I met a dealer once at a train show who said that there was still a market for that stuff. He offered to buy the ones that I had if I brought them to the next show. However I haven't seen him since! But I still have all of them in case I do see him and can get a card or an address to do some business with.

Bottom left - McHenry's; top left plastic wheelsets with metal axles; bottom center are plastic wheelsets with plastic axles and bottom right is horn-hooks. Since I am a hoarder, I'll probably never get rid of them!!!

Louis - A belated Happy Birthday to you. Now instead of just being an old fart, you are an older fart.
Marlin - I don't know which growing zone you are located in, but I am in Zone 8 and I plant Sweet Potatoes in May and harvest in late October.
Kgstakes - Looks like a really neat book.
Karl - Praying for you on your upcoming surgery. I'm positive that you will have no problems.

For many Christians, today is Ascension Thursday. It is also the birthday of the late President John F. Kennedy.
Everyone have a great day today.

EDIT: I just stepped out on the back porch and discovered my A/C sitting in the front yard! Right next to the cart that I intended for them to put it in.

Good morning all,

Light breeze and mild Temps for today, I will take it.

Layout - Presently installing a batch of conifer trees I have been making, they turned out pretty good but not sure if I am satisfied with the bark.

Found 3 birch trees in the early stages of insect morality in our woods, will be making them into firewood next up this morning.

I hope you all have a safe day,

Dave LASM

Yeah, Filament is melting plastic, so there is some off-gassing. PLA is one of the lighter VOC types. Others, not so light. I don't vent my PLA prints, but do vent the resin printer.
I'm sorry, but I'm confused. I thought filament is just the overall type and PLA is a type of filament. I use PLA and PLA+. I vent both. I heard resin is nasty.

Is that what you make your model warriors out of? Impressive!

Hopefully 6 more minutes...

Good morning from Las Vegas. 83f degrees now and heading to 100+. Remember though it’s a dry heat!

The brother has a new hip and is out of recovery. I was there when he woke but the nurses and attendants have him walking around right now! I can see them in the workout area. They have him strapped to a pulley system in the ceiling. He is moving but obviously unsure of himself. The doctor will decide later this afternoon if they will send him home or stay over night in the clinic. Terry is with his g/f in Scottsdale for her medical appointments.

When we got here yesterday the brother’s pool was empty of water and the workers were adding a temporary pulley system over the shallow end. His doctors want multiple times a day walking in the pool. The water was being changed out from chlorine treated to salt. The chlorine is too tough on his incision and the doctor said salt water. What I didn’t realize until the brother mentioned it last night that while he’s had some hip issues it wasn’t until last week that the replacement surgery was decided on. They had an opening for this morning. Terry and I thought when we landed in Vegas last Wednesday after the wedding we were headed to Maui. No problem as the clothing choices are the same.

It’s just going to be a hanging around day for me. I just looked at my stocks for the 1st time in 9 days. I’m not broke yet! I have a couple actual books here but not ready to look at either. This morning I went through the missed postings since I posted here last. That took awhile.

Just chilling in the heat!

You are correct. Apologies for the confusion.

Resin just needs proper care. It's easy to develop skin sensitivity to it. I've got a spot on my right wrist that acts up if I'm exposed to contact with it.

Normally, it's mostly the IPA (Alcohol) that we rinse the 3D resin models in that have the worst effects. That spot on my wrist developed sensitivity because my Nitrile gloves didn't cover the wrist where my arm would touch the top of the rinse vat.

Here's my resin set up. The black Wedge attached to the hose is a vent hood. The white hose drops down to behind the resin printer. That one does NOT have vent on it, so I keep the vent hose close to the pinter.

To the left of the printer is the three part rinse station. Prints get dropped into the small container front left. It has an internal basket. Swish that around to remove the majority of the resin on the model. Then into the metal basket (left of the tall white tub), Prints go into the tall white tube, which has an impeller in the bottom, and that circulates the IPA for 2.5 minutes.

After that, the basket of prints is removed. I dump them into the short white tub to the far left, which is full of HOT water from the kettle. Let them sit in that for 2-3 minutes to soften the supports for easier removal. Then onto the paper towels to dry. Once dry they go into the UV Light chamber (yellow hood). 2 minutes exposed to UV cures any residual surface resin that might not have totally cured during the printing.

Oh, and the short tub next to the printer (with the purple lid) is where I place the build plate after removing the models from it. That tub, too, has IPA. While the prints are rinsing in the big tub, I use paper towels to clean excess resin from the build plate, before remounting it in the print.

Tom,
My wife had both knees done a year apart when she was 65 & 66. They had her walking right after she came out of recovery. She also had to step up and down one stair. They fed us lunch and we were on our way home. Thankfully we have a single story home and there is only 1 step into the house.

When Dawn 'attacked' with the Novichok nerve agent and was on life support for ten days, she was strapped to a pulley system also. It was four months in the hospital before being released. Even then she could only walk a few short steps. Today it is a real struggle to walk twenty steps.

Was this part of the 2018 incident in Amesbury and Salisbury? Either way, Novichok is nasty and I'm glad she's recovering.

This afternoon I was just informed I will be in with the PT to understand how they want his therapy to go. They always include someone other than the patient as they told me the patient only hears what they want and rarely look at the guides them are given. It will be fun being the sadistic nursing aide to the little brother.

They did let him know it will be great if he can swing a golf club in a few weeks let alone play in 2. When he said the doctor said 2 weeks the PT said are you going to believe the people that will work with you or the guide who has only read about it. Plus if there are people who played at 2 weeks they were in better shape then you are now. That was a funny exchanged I grinned during!

I am going through my stocks! I am a huge believer in dividends but I have not checked (I guess) in years what the dividends if any were issued. Boeing has not issued any since 2020. I am going in alpha order. We purchased our 1st BA stock (400 shares) when the stock market re-opened after 9/11. It was around $22. I am selling 1/2 of what I have today

This has been an interesting review of 4 stocks so far

I like DRIPs too, but only in our retirement accounts. 4-5 years ago I went the ETF route with VIG, VYM, and IDU for a portion of the account.

In our taxable account I'm still pretty aggressive with mainly data center related tech companies and small bio-techs. Knock on wood I've only had one underperformer I have to sit on.

I personally prefer dividends that pay out at least yearly with 2 exceptions. BRK-A and BRK-B, where Mr. Buffett prefers to reinvest profits in the companies he controls to improve their efficiency, expand their reach, create new products and services, and improve existing ones. Our 1st BRK-A was 1989 and I have not really questioned what Berkshire Hathaway has done since. The 1st time Terry and I had contact directly with Mr Buffett was at the annual meeting in Omaha, 1994. We had 3.5 years in buying rental properties but were struggling to get more credit to buy more. I asked in the 3 minutes we were given to ask a question of him and he said borrow it using your stock, but don’t sell the stock. He changed our life’s.

I like dividends and stability, passive! My personal portfolio started in 2000, the family one in 1985 and Terry’s in 1990. She took over investing her own and the family in 2008. She’s done very well. She now’s suggests things for me but she even at 73 is still very aggressive and I’ve never been. It’s worked out. She really loves to Day trade in her own portfolio.

I told her I was selling 1/2 of Boeing today and she laughed. Said I told you to do it years ago. So I’m a bit slow taking her advice!!!
