Is there a credible story from Germany for placing the Hamburg steak in a bread sandwich? That’s the origin story for hamburgers. Not the ground meat patty itself which probably may does come from the old world.

Wikipedia has an article on it and other articles I found are similar.

The hamburger as a sandwich with a beef patty is an American invention. The ground meat patty “steak” is much older and has its roots in Europe if not elsewhere.

More useless pork trivia that I can still remember.

If the ham is labeled....

- Natural Juice, then it can only have up to 6% water/solution added IIRC
-Water Added, then it can have up to 14% water/solution added
-Ham and Water Product, then it can have up to 24% water/solution added.
You may see it as useless, but I see it as interesting, thank you.

Ham is one of my favorite foods!

Well, had an unwanted "guest" on the Casa this morning. Water moccasin showed up in the yard. 38 with rat shot convinced him to self identify as departed.

When I went to FIU back in the early 1980's I lived in the last apartment complex on SW 8th where the Everglades began. I lived there 2 years and never saw a snake, but gators filled the canals all around me. Night time during mating season was freaky. You'd hear the growl and see 2 glowing red eyes. Add in the heat, humidity, and all the freaking bugs and I couldn't wait to graduate and go back to CA.

I remember a neighbor there telling me that if I ever did see a cottonmouth to get away quickly because they definitely were aggressive.

Afternoon all,

It was a busy morning, got the yard edged, trimmed. mowed and clippings blown off the hard surfaces. I then started weeding the garden and started to thin the carrots, I'll have to hire an almost teenager as her hands are are smaller than mine. Waiting another week on the beets as I want to cook the tops of the culls like spinach, yummy. Parsnips not doing real well as it appears only 5 came up between the 2 rows. Okra still being slow, but they are several inches tall. The tomatoes are now over a foot tall and are blooming already. I put the cages up last week, and based on a comment from Willie, decided to shore up the cages while the plants were still small. The 2 pepper plants are starting to bloom as well. I'm going to TRY to contain the cucumbers to the row space the parsnips aren't using. I still need to plant the green beans. I like fresh ones. Well see how much I can do later in the summer. I should be just about back after knee replacement to start harvesting the peaches. They ripen mid-August.

Speaking of the peach trees, After the rabbits got the first couple of suckers, I have a 6" sucker on the stump of the other peach tree. I should be able to get a "New" tree based on what I've read. The rabbits can eat the suckers I keep mowing from the remains of the apple tree, although they may not like the taste 2,4-D. Too windy today to mix another batch as I have some bindweed I need to take care of now that the dandelions are feeling poorly. Take advantage of a one armed man, will they? (Couldn't spray last year due to the 2 shoulder surgeries).

You guys mentioned Aldi's, they used to have a 3Lb package of polish sausage that we would buy. As a polish sausage, they were crap, but as a sausage to put on the grill and then a bun, they were pretty good and less than many hot dogs. Reminds me, I'll have to see if I can get a shipment of Polish sausage the butcher in the town my grandparents lived. 4th generation family butcher from Poland. I'd go in in late after noon, place my order, they'd then pack and freeze overnight and I'd pick up with coolers and dry ice and bring back to Kansas where they think Polish Sausage is a greasy spicy sausage.

Market's up today and my two DIY accounts for HSA and 401k were in the same ballpark as the indices.

Today is the first time my accounts have closed higher than the highest point they had reached in February, from which they had slowly gone down a little before "the crash". But we're still not back with them because there are also the every-two-week new funds that go into the 401K account and so we still have some to make up before we've recovered (in my accounts). I don't know where we are at with the indices pre and post crash

I guess it rained some. looking out the windows, but now I see a mix of blue and clouds. Temps are up 5-9F on the watch/sensor since this morning.

Too much to do.

Okay, gonna pick some brains here. I am building an HO TTrak module. I was going to put some of the old metal Woodland Scenics kits on it but yesterday ran across some plastic kits [which I picked up]. I think the plastic kits might stand up to the jostling around that a module will see during normal transport, but I am not sure. All suggestions and input are greatly desired!

Had a surprise at Walmart this afternoon. I usually stop at either our Kroger affiliate or Aldi's for bread. Our list was basically just bread and some other items they apparently no longer carry locally. Bread I prefer runs about $3.87 for a 24 ounce loaf. All Walmart had was a "tiny" loaf, 12 ounces, for $3.19. $6.38 for 24 ounces, not only shrinkflation, but higher price per ounce. Wife reminded me we knew stuff was going to get expensive. Bought something other than the one I prefer and have to go elsewhere for the other stuff.

Out exploring again today. Went to see the mammoth site. That was interesting. One thing I was surprised to see is you could see all the layers of sediment - see pictures. Thought that would be cool to model either on a layout or a diorama. Cliff scene or something.

It was really thoughtful of them to die next to those signs.
