Good Memorial Day to All. Clear and 67°. Only going to 94° after 97° yesterday. Thunderstorms in the forecast for the rest of the week.
Second day of no power here, as the power company is devoting most resources a bit east where the 2-RV parks and the truck stop that have been in the national news are located. They did have the tree trimming contractor out on our road a bit north of me where trees were going to be in their way. I should be hearing from the roofing contractor soon regarding whether he can re-roof the train shed soon. I'd like to get that out of the way ASAP. It's safe for now, but prolonged rain could be an issue. The gaping hole has been tarped, ,but there are still seams between the plywood sheathing where minor leaks can occur. If he uses the entire 5 man crew that did my house, it can be done in a half day at the most.
Mostly yesterday was spent organizing stuff. Getting the generator and dry ice for the beer fridge was easy. I am gathering debris into piles, but until I retrieve the trash dumpster from the middle of the front yard and put it back, I can't do much with the stuff yet. The neighbor who shares it with me is supposed to be by with his tractor today to move it; yesterday he was busy just organizing his own stuff. He's the one who's barn section and roof disappeared as shown in yesterday's picture post. His home only suffered minor damage from porch furniture being blown away and damaging the porch railing. He does have a lot of downed trees, some on top of one of his 2 carports. His son who works on small engines had his whole shop demolished, as well as one end of his trailer. He and his kids and grandkids spent time gathering his tools out of the pasture.
While it is not official yet, it is being reported that this tornado was between an EF-2 and an EF-3, depending on exactly where you are located.
I haven't gotten to my barn yet, as it is blocked by downed trees from all sides except the back. I no longer actively use it and there is nothing of value there so access now isn't too important. It did lose part of it's roof and walls.
I once again want to thank everyone for the well wishes and confirm that we're shaken but well and thankful that our house survived intact. Others in our area were not so fortunate and need to be remembered in your prayers.
No train shed time yesterday since I don't have lights (and music) out there. We'll go from here. Absolutely no damage out there other than the missing metal roof thankfully.
Chet - Good to see you back with the archival photos. Some of those structures look familiar!
Hughie - They are now confirming 7 causalities east of me, could have been a lot more but the travel center and the marina opened up their coolers to shelter people.
Curt - Unfortunately the train shed is not insured.
Guy - Yes, the Longhorns survived unscathed. Their pasture is slightly south of the major damage zone, but they will still have to walk around a fallen tree or two.
OK, let's all remember what Memorial Day is really about.
Hughie expressed it as well as I could in his earlier post.
Everyone have a good day.
