Well... last night of the cruise.

Packing frenzy

Front of the boat channel on the telly is completely black. As long as I don't see an iceburg or another ship before we pull into Miami, we should be good.

tomorrow, lots of hurry up and wait. Lots of down time at the airport. flight out leaves at 3:49 pm or some such weird time

This just in, we passed another ship. But there are two blips visible on the dark front-of-the-boat channel. Looks like we're chasing the two Royal Caribbean ships that were at the next private island over from ours.

I'll watch for you. What airline flight number and departure time?
Thanks

We'll have a good bit of downtime at Miami airport.

Your published departure is 1538, on a A321 Neo.

Here is your route to Charlotte in case you are allowed an airband radio:

FLMGO2(SID) STYMY(Intersection) ZERBO(Intersection) Q87(IFR Jet Route) VIYAP(Intersection) CHECR(Arrival Transition) STOCR4(STAR)

For the arrival, start at CHECR at the bottom left of the second chart and follow it to FLLGG at the top of the chart. Then start at FLLGG on the last chart on the bottom right and follow it to HANDO for the initial approach fix. After that, it will be an approach chart that will depend on weather and traffic flow for the runnway in use. But these will get you there.

Sort of like a skymap for airplanes.

I was double deep frying some chunks of beef stew meat I had sous vide cooked for a few hours to soften up, using a frying pan with an inch of oil, starch coated meat dipped in a light water/starch/flour mixture. A couple minutes in. Out for 5+ minutes to rest, and back in the oil for a minute or two and then out. That makes it extra crunchy (trick for Korean fried chicken).

While cooking some stored water in a starch blob blew up and got hot oil on my hand. A couple quarter sized spots on my palm -- towards the outside by the thumb and along the edge where the little finger is. Pretty bad. There were a few otehr minor pops and sizzle that hit me with very small drops that didn't do damage but this one did damage.

I've been keeping it in cold running water when I could, on an ice pack when I couldn't, and now it doesn't feel so bad. Put some aloe vera gel (since we don't have a live plant right now) and will put some more on before I go to bed. I'll be ok tomorrow. It was a pain to try and finish cooking and then cleaning up afterwards.

I was trying to make a sticky asian style sauce to go with it and stir fried bell peppers and onions. The sauce didn't thicken up like it was supposed to but it all tasted great any way. I made the sauce recipe up but it was mainly honey (and sugar), soy sauce, vinegar, a little red chili paste (some old Gochujang we had). Some hot chili flakes, some ground sesame, some sesame oil, and garnished with dry roasted sesame seeds. It was pretty good. Family said it was something like you'd get at Panda Express 😂 . Most of it got eaten and only half the sauce was used. It will thicken in the fridge and so we can use it with chicken nuggets or something.

I'm going to try and "fast" this week. Tomorrow after my intermittent fast I'll eat at noon (since dinner tonight ended up being late) and then fast with water, my supplements, and some olive oil in the evenings until Thursday. We also have electrolyte powder my kids use for swimming and I'll drink some of that mixed with water once a day. After Thursday until Saturday I'll eat a piece of fruit and maybe a bite of protein plus the spoon or two of olive oil. If I'm successful I'll plan it again soon. I did something. like it back when I lived in Germany in the late 80s. About 5 days with just water, and a little fruit juice. After the first 2 days or so it got easy.

As long as you don't hear 5 blasts of the ship's horn, should be good.

I heard that on USS First Ship, then full reverse and everything started shaking and rolling. One guy fell out of his rack, top one of course and sprained an elbow. Found out one of the oilers zigged instead of zagging and crossed in front.

Good morning all. It is our last day of our voyage as well (like Troy). We are in the middle of a three Company ships convoy to NYC. Mindst' you the nearest one to us is 12 miles to the south. Atlantic City is closer. 😅

Our time in Philadelphia was short. We must visit again.

Good morning all!

Kind of chilly this morning. Currently 23F but with the wind it feels like only 7F. Expected high os going to be around 47F.
Should be mainly sunny.

We shall see what the day brings, no plans as of yet. Wife is off work today, and daughter is off school due to Casmir Pulaski day.

Have a safe day everyone!

Good morning folks, 46 here right now and looks to be a pleasant day. Woke up a bit early and got coffee going. Working today, hopefully will feel like working on a project tonight when I get home. Received a N scale Wiking box truck as an extra from a guy I bought some tanker cars from and it looks like it will fit on a Kato 109 power chassis with a bit of luck. Fun little "ruptured Duck" since it's not quite a galloping goose!

Morning all,

35° and cloudy, high later of 49°. Some rain expected almost all week. Looks like for the next 10 days, we'll be above freezing,. That's a good thing as the peach tree is beginning to bud a little early. I do expect a late freeze to get the peaches this year. I still have a lot from last year in the freezer. Won't be as many as I pruned the tree pretty severely a few weeks back.

Back at work and spent most of the first hour getting my mailbox emptied and things dealt with. I had about 150 messages in my inbox as of yesterday and told the wife that I had that many. She asked me how many I was actually going to read. I said there would be about 15 that really had any significance. There was 16. Most were sales pitches from vendors.

Brake job went well. Surprising what you can do with the right tools. A 2-post lift made quick work. The rears took a bit the get the drums off, as they still had the retainers holding the drums to the axles. Once we finally got them off, we found the drums were in great condition and the shoes were about 90% of the measure we took from the new shoes. Since nothing was leaking or damaged, we cleaned everything up and adjusted the rears. On the front side, we replaced the pads which were about 50%, cleaned the rotors and reassembled. In all, it cost $15.00 (pad price) to do the brakes. I do have $70 in parts and shipping, but the shoes are on my shelf for when we eventually need them. Next time it may need rotor which is not fun on this vehicle,

Swal: I was quoted nearly $1200 to do the brakes on my truck as well. I have the tools, but I just can't get down under a vehicle on jack stands anymore.

I mention previously of our daughter doing volunteer work in Brooklyn. She wasn't one for doing 'girlie things'.
She was in the British Armed Forces just before the Falklands War. She could stand her ground when she and her RAF brother argued who was the better. 😃
Then when she left, she joined a company that was building schools for children around the world. She helped to build two; one in India, the other in Tanzania.
Now she spends most of her time travelling the world.
Looking forward to seeing her when we arrive in Toronto in a month or three.
