Good Morning All. Welcome to the first day of Spring which arrived here at 4:01 CDT this morning. Clear and 38°, just like the forecast predicted. Wind has also died down here to around 7-8 mph, after a day yesterday with steady winds from the NW at over 30 mph all day. A respite today and then they return tomorrow from the opposite direction. Spring actually sorta arrived early this year as our last day of below 32° was 2-23.
Despite the relentless high winds yesterday, I did do some outdoor chores, mowed the west side alongside the hay field, and the north side of the train shed. Later on, I changed the oil in the tiller and rinsed the dust off the Accura. Did not use the electric push mower as originally planned.
Today is the weekly grocery trek into Denton. Not too sure if my wife is going along today. I know that additional stops include the post office, a gasoline stop and Vitamin Shop.
Yesterday out in the train shed, I started one project and ended up doing another before returning to the first. My intent was to enhance one of the earlier landscaping attempts on the layout. Just a small area at one end of the materials storage area at the interchange tracks.
Simplistic but it worked for 10 years or so. While there, I noted some damage to the load on a flatcar parked on the interchange track and took it over to the workbench. After a couple of hours, I returned and added the three sad sapling trees and some weeds that I had intended to add before being distracted.
Now to explore the distraction.
A broken tie-down chain. Had to drill the end that was super-glued out of the stake pocket.
Then I spent an agonizing 45 minutes looking for the misplaced package of chain. It resided on the back of the workbench for many years until I straightened the bench up about a year ago. Finally found it.
Meanwhile, I had broken the intact side while handling, so instead of just replacing one side, I repeated the process on the other side and replaced the whole thing.
Then I was able to return to the original project.
Jay - The greenery on the module looks good.
Len - I like to enhance scenes with things that I have observed over the years. Migrant day laborer's are quite common here, and they always ride in the back of the truck.
Karl -
Do I want biscuits and gravy or buttermilk flapjacks? Oh and I do want a side of bacon.
I'll just take the bacon and skip the delicious carb-filled sides.
