Good morning from a wet, rainy day in the ad of the former North British Railway.

🚩Between 60 and death. It's time to use the money you saved up. Use it and enjoy it. Don't just keep it for those who may have no notion of the sacrifices you made to get it. Remember there is nothing more dangerous than a son or daughter-in-law with big ideas for your hard-earned capital.

🚩Warning: This is also a bad time for investments, even if it seems wonderful or fool-proof. They only bring problems and worries. This is a time for you to enjoy some peace and quiet.
🚩Stop worrying about the financial situation of your children and grandchildren, and don't feel bad spending your money on yourself. You've taken care of them for many years, and you've taught them what you could. You gave them an education, food, shelter, and support. The responsibility is now theirs to earn their own money.

🚩Keep a healthy life, without great physical effort. Do moderate exercise (like walking every day), eat well, and get your sleep. It's easy to become sick, and it gets harder to remain healthy. That is why you need to keep yourself in good shape and be aware of your medical and physical needs. Keep in touch with your doctor, do tests even when you're feeling well. Stay informed.
🚩Always buy the best, most beautiful items for your significant other. The key goal is to enjoy your money with your partner. One day one of you will miss the other, and the money will not provide any comfort then, enjoy it together.

🚩Don't stress over the little things. You've already overcome so much in your life. You have good memories and bad ones, but the important thing is the present. Don't let the past drag you down and don't let the future frighten you. Feel good in the now. Small issues will soon be forgotten.
🚩Regardless of age, always keep love alive. Love your partner, love life, love your family, love your neighbor and remember: "A man is not old as long as he has intelligence and affection."
🚩Be proud, both inside and out. Don't stop going to your hair salon or barber, do your nails, go to the dermatologist and the dentist, keep your perfumes and creams well stocked. When you are well-maintained on the outside, it seeps in, making you feel proud and strong.

🚩Don’t lose sight of fashion trends for your age, but keep your own sense of style. You’ve developed your own sense of what looks good on you – keep it and be proud of it. It’s part of who you are.
🚩ALWAYS stay up-to-date. Read newspapers, watch the news. Go online and read what people are saying. Make sure you have an active email account and try to use some of those social networks. You'll be surprised at what old friends you'll meet.

🚩Respect the younger generation and their opinions. They may not have the same ideas as you, but they are the future and will take the world in their direction. Give advice, not criticism, and try to remind them that yesterday's wisdom still applies today.
Never use the phrase: “In my time.” Your time is now. As long as you’re alive, you are part of this time.
🚩Some people embrace their golden years, while others become bitter and surly. Life is too short to waste your days on the latter. Spend your time with positive, cheerful people, it'll rub off on you and your days will seem that much better. Spending your time with bitter people will make you feel older and harder to be around.

🚩Do not surrender to the temptation of living with your children or grandchildren (if you have a financial choice, that is). Sure, being surrounded by family sounds great, but we all need our privacy. They need theirs and you need yours. Even then, do so only if you feel you really need the help or do not want to live by yourself
🚩Don't abandon your hobbies. If you don't have any, make new ones. You can travel, hike, cook, read, dance. You can adopt a cat or a dog, grow a kitchen garden, play cards, checkers, chess, dominoes, golf.

🚩Try to go. Get out of the house, meet people you haven't seen in a while, experience something new (or something old). The important thing is to leave the house from time to time. Go to museums, go walk through a park. Get out there.
🚩Speak in courteous tones and try not to complain or criticize too much unless you really need to. Try to accept situations as they are.
🚩Pains and discomfort go hand in hand with getting older. Try not to dwell on them but accept them as a part of life.

🚩If you've been offended by someone – forgive them. If you've offended someone-apologize. Don't drag around resentment with you. It only serves to make you sad and bitter. It doesn't matter who was right. Someone once said: "Holding a grudge is like taking poison and expecting the other person to die." Don't take that poison. Forgive, forget, and move on with your life.
🚩Laugh. Laugh away your worries Remember, you are one of the lucky ones. You managed to have a life, a long one. Many never get to this age, never get to experience a full life.

My valued friends, enjoy peaceful life at this point in your life ...
Don't worry... be happy. 🥰

I don't really understand the allure of gold. It's not like you can use it at the grocery store, gas pump, or monthly bills. No one that I personally know has realized any real gain from selling it at one of those "We Buy Gold" places, unless it was something that they inherited as opposed to purchasing.

Gold is a hedge against inflation. Gold typically rises in times of inflation so that your buying power remains approximately the same. It also tends to rise in times of crisis as TomO said as in times of crisis money usually flows into stabile assets.

However, you won't do that well at "We Buy Gold" places. And things like jewelry are not a great way to keep gold. Coins, bars, and rounds (rounds being like coins but not with a face value from a known government mint) are the usual mediums and have a lot less deviance from the prevailing market prices. Of course the dealer are playing arbitrage with it so you do get less and pay more than the prevailing world market rate but you'll do a lot better than "we buy gold" places.

Now, of course, if jewelry is what you have then you deal with it but if you're buying gold you want to stick with coins, bars, and rounds, and similar.

And if using it as a hedge in your portfolio there are gold stocks and etfs including ones that deal in physical gold (and others that deal with mining, mining equipment, and gold related). Those stocks/ETFs also rise in times of inflation and can help hedge your portfolio,

While still 6 years off from being 60, lots of these are already hitting home!

Thanks for sharing this.

Today is the 249th Birthday of the US Army, founded on 14 June 1775.

Gold, Precious metals, can be a hedge against inflation, crisis, but in general, is not an asset that can be easily liquidated...You need a buyer willing to pay what you ask...Something that almost never seems to be the case.

Much of the allure of "gold" comes from when the Roosevelt administration ended the Gold Standard, and required people to turn in their gold, in exchange for paper...well, unless you have a Scrooge McDuck Money Vault in your residence, your contemporary holdings are still paper transactions.

Florida is up 3- 0 over Edmonton in the Stanley Cup Finals... Boston is up 3 games to 0 over Dallas in the NBA final.

Afternoon All,

Slept solidly last night and felt rested getting up this morning. I started out with some small chores then started moving pictures around. After about 90 minutes. After that I got a haircut and ran a couple of errands. MOH is with the extended family at Seaworld (free tickets). I don't do theme parks anymore and it's Africa hot outside.

Joe- That's an issue that I'm worried about as Dad gets progressively older and the memory issues increase.

Jay- Nice looking yard.

Smudge- Thanks, I think I will try my hand at one or two.

David- I hope your day got better and interesting reading.

TomO- Sounds like a great musical. Good luck with the subdivision.

I hope everyone has a good night.

Greetings All from the invalid area. Daughter and two G-sons showed here around 7 PM.
She stopped in ABQ to see her mother for about 24 hours - they do not get along - a product of the divorce 39 years back. Then they spent 2 days in PHX with my son who lives in Apache Junction and literally spends every dime he can muster supporting 2 horses.
Well, enough about them -- AND I really don't have much to say except that I have a blood test tomorrow and Chemo startingMonday for 3 days. I have not looked to see what is next after that.

MOH is having cataract surgery on the 25th, so I will have the honor of taking her instead of her always hauling me back and forth. I sure hope that it works for her?

Looking for 88* on the heat today -- with the low humidity it is a very nice temp for this part of the world.

CURT - Very happy that you all had a nice trip - sooo ... which did you like better Cumbres, or Silverton?

bought myself an iphone and an having myself one "hell of a time getting it to work - a slow learning curve for an almost 82YO! Actually, MOH wanted an 8Plus. it has 256 MB $125 and looks brand new.Well she wanted the larger screen, but I was not aware that they made 2 different sizes in the 8 Plus, so I kept it. I was just fed up with the "swiping" of the Samsun and besides, I was out of storage
Everyone have a nice day!I. AND a great Father's Day tomorrow!

Welp, I did get the irrigation pipeline intake screen cleaned off after lunch. Worked up a good sweat with the temp right at 80F. But not actually an unpleasant task.

Railroad related: Yesterday I took the MicroMark resistance soldering "power pack" apart as I didn't think there was anything to lose by doing so. Talk about dirt simple. Just a transformer with a center tap for high/low heat. Turned out the terminal for the "ground" lead was loose on the inside of the case. A 5 minute fix and it is back in operation. I think the greatest advantage of that soldering technique is the ability to put a lot of heat in a very specific area. They excel at soldering details on brass locomotives.

I wouldn't buy any iPhone 8 based product. Doesn't matter the price. That phone came out in Sept 2017 and doesn't run the latest OS that's coming out in September AFAIK or anything. Buy an iPhone 14 or iPhone 15. They'll be supported for years to come.

Good evening from the cave!

Found out more about the shooting but this time more direct as to what happened. She didn’t shoot him, he shot himself but with no intention to kill himself! We have a local police officer who is dating the lady in the house behind us. I was out on the deck after dinner tonight when they pulled into her driveway, I waved. She came over to say high and than spilled what he had told her. Seems the abused wife finally had enough and after so many years of taking his crap, kneed him pretty good. He was so humiliated by her fighting back and winning he decided to wound himself. Shot himself in the thigh!!! I’m still laughing…

The meeting and tour with the real estate company and their agents went well enough some where in the middle of it all they called the owner of the agency to come out for a look see. He said he couldn’t make and said he’d come out Saturday but I said Tuesday is when I’m next available but he can’t. I have another agency coming out Monday afternoon and one on Wednesday. Due diligence. I know the price I want, I know the area, I know my low price but I don’t what the market price should be. Real estate agents because of commissions and experience are the best source for that. My Wednesday group is the group that has done a lot of work for us but it’s time for a different perspective, it’s why they are last.

I did spend some time in the train room. 40 minutes spraying 4 tracks roughly 7’ long each. I wiped the rail heads off using a 1”x1”x5” piece of pine board. I not sure the rails are rusty enough but I will look at them again on Saturday.

After 10am tomorrow the lady behind me needs the pickup truck and a 2nd opinion on some art she wants to buy. I have no issue with Art fairs and Craft shows. She made sure she says the artist will bring the piece she wants. It’s a metal yard piece

Enjoy

Swal -
From what you have described in recent posts, isn't selling the house counter-productive??? If I recall correctly, the house is exempt, but if you sell it, then half of the money becomes money that they can further use before Medicaid kicks in. Perhaps I have misunderstood you along the way.
Willie it's true the house is exempt for now but that doesn't mean it's exempt forever. They will eventually try to get the money back at some point. They haven't paid anything yet so there's nothing to get back so far.
