Signs, signs everywhere a sign. 🤣

Well, howdy there internet peeps and those monkeys with computers,

It's Troy again.

Got to visit Mom. Brought her a pecan sticky bun, and a good cup of coffee.

CrazyGranny.jpg

Wife and I sat with her for about an hour. In that time we noticed a couple of mental slips.

Not the normal, I can't remember where my keys are. Or calling the kids by the wrong names (she always did that one... If she got to reciting the dog's name as she was glaring at you, we were in BIG trouble).

No, she's showing more and more signs of cognitive decline. The contrast to my mother-in-law is stark. My mother is 82. My MIL is 89. MIL still has fairly sound cognitive function.

My mother was convinced that my cousin's daughter was really cousin's sister. Gentle correction didn't help. She knew where the girl in question is (Florida, helping her other grandmother). But kept insisting M was really D's sister, not daughter.

So far, MIL hasn't gotten anywhere close to that, despite a 7 year age gap between them.

Just another stark reminder that mom's time is limited.

In good news, she really enjoyed the good coffee we brought her, and Pecan Sticky Bun was on the dry side, but still appreciated.

Todd, FWIW, I once purchase d anew pickup. I couldn't understand why it came without manuals or a spare set of keys. One day, I had a flat tire. I uncranked the spare out from under the bed, and nestled up in the wheel of the spare was a vinyl pouch. In that pouch I found my spare keys, and all the manuals for the truck. I'd never seen that before, and never heard of it happening since.

Good afternoon. The drive to pick up art work and install it are complete along with a nice lunch out.

Sitting on the front porch a couple of the neighbor boys approached me. Asked me if it was true I had trains and when I said yes they asked if they could see them. Told them to get one of your parents to come along the 1st time and then yes you can see and run the trains. They go to school with the grandson which is how they found out about the trains

Not too keyed up to do anything this afternoon. Maybe later I will add the safety stripes to 3 covered hoppers and a couple box cars. 5 cars is about my limit before the eyes go goofy. I have a bunch of Tangent covered hoppers that were built in the late 70’s and re-painted in the 90’s, those need the safety stripes.

Good morning. It's 74 and clear.

What's black and tan, and looks good on a lawyer?
A Rottweiller.

Why don't sharks attack lawyers?
Professional courtesy.

What do you call 1000 lawyers at the bottom of the ocean?
A good start.

What do Bigfoot, Superman, and an honest lawyer have in common?
They're all fictional characters.

Thank you! I'll be here all week!
Definition: Shame, a busload of lawyers falling off a cliff.

Definition: Crying Shame, empty seats on the bus.

Years don't matter when it comes to cognitive functioning. Look around right now. Compare Joe Biden [81] with Paul McCartney [also 81] who regularly plays 3 hour concerts and is quite active onstage. A close runner-up is Mick Jagger [80] who still dances and prances around stage on extended concert tours. A few other 81 year olds include Harrison Ford and Joe Namath. Clocking in a little older are Martha Stewart, Bernie Sanders and Paul Simon at 82. Warren Buffett is 93 and is still sharp as a tack.

Afternoon All,

Started with a walk at 76F and lower humidity but it's Hades temps out there now. After chores this morning I cleaned track. Tonight, we're going out to supper for Dad's Day. I think I finally have all the videos and photos transferred. What a pita that was.

Sherrel- If I did it again, I would do the Cumbre & Toltec RR. Their customer service is very good (especially during the trip). The Durango & Silverton train is 3 times the size but suck at customer service. They have better scenery than the C&T so it's really what you want. As an example, on the D&S excursion the diesel (helper) broke down and we stopped for 20 minutes but not a word from the onboard staff. Drive safe with your wife.

Grizzled- Beautiful scenery and doggo.

Bill- That's way too much breakfast food for me. I would feel sluggish all day.

Jay- Enjoy the rest of the vacation.

Troy- Very cool 3D printing.

David- I tell my kids I'm the best Dad you will ever have, and I'm the worst Dad you will ever have. 😉 Nice layout shots.

I hope everyone has a good night.

Afternoon all,

So far so good on the surgery. Repaired a "major" tear (according to the wife) and took several bone spurs and fragments out of the shoulder. Proceeded to get yelled at by PT for not using the pain meds, but I said I'd take it easy. Apparently shoulder injuries need to scar up and "heal" before any real PT can happen, so I can do somethings but still have to keep the shoulder immobilized. Pain is far less than before surgery. However the left shoulder is hitting me hard though.
I get to take the sling off for for some light movement and showering. Otherwise, I get to sit a lot...

I've found Biden to be on point, (without the dancing.) But, I don't watch the news networks that are biased against him and crop videos to show him "wandering off" instead of going to give a thumbs up to the paratroopers who just landed...

Did you ask if, after the operation, you'll be able to play piano?

The good ones will ask if you could before the operation.

Agreed. There are numerous other factors, some known, others unknown, that affect cognitive functioning...including medication, isolation is another.

I’ll try not to take the monkey comment personally.
Everything I did had to go back to Japan, then had to be forwarded back to France. Never mind the things I worked on were for the North American market only, the French still had to sign off on it. Hence, many of the “eccentric” design features.
Fun times…
You're talking about Nissan? I think now i remember, Nissan was bought by Renault, or something like that. The thing is most cars (as well as almost anything else) is designed to break at certain time; so called planned obsolescence. That's why we are dealing with crappy machinery. Most comes down from the top, to make profits. I used to have a Renault BTW, real one before they got into heavy electronics: excellent cars and the only problem was finding parts for it, since the last ones were sold in the US in 1989.

Nissan is part of Nissan - Renault - Mitsubishi alliance.
Nissan has 15% voting share in Renault. Renault has 15% voting share in Nissan. Nissan has 34% voting share in Mitsubishi Motors

I knew it was something like that. Didn't know Mitsubishi was in there. I guess Mercedes which had Mitsubishi for a while decided it was not worth it. Really the only good Mitsubishi i think would be the "Evo" since it was designed with sports competition in mind.

Personally the 2 presumptive candidates in my book are 2 old to be handling the pressure of the job. I’m more concerned who the running mates are in helping decide my vote.

That said, I greatly admired Charlie Munger who was Warren Buffet’s business partner and some say the real brains behind Berkshire Hathaway. Charlie recently passed at 96 and was still active in the business. No matter they both helped Terry and I financially over the years and having met both I can say age when they were in their 60’s or again meeting them in their 90’s was never an issue. Charlie told us and I guess all his clients, earn the first $100,000 and the rest is easy.

My mother passed at 86 and was right there mentally until the last week in hospice at home. My MIL passed at 88 and the last 20 years I knew her she was crazier than Terry could remember her anytime growing up. I think she was mostly fine mentally but boy she had some really off beat opinions and if it popped into her head, it would come out of her mouth without thinking.

I still haven't gotten my new Galaxy S24 to act like my old S9.
Willie, we have the Galaxy S22. It took some getting used to but it's an amazing thing once we did and we are still learning.

I know you are not one for cameras on the phone, but I suspect you will love the photos and videos the S24 can take. Best of all, much of it is automatic! Yours is two years newer and even better than ours.

They even have tripods available; I think we paid under $20. I can even take a video without having the image jump around.
