Good morning shop dwellers!

It's currently 69° F, it was 58° when I got up but it will plateau at 80 today. In the office today but I am leaving early to meet up with my GF and other friends for a round of golf late this afternoon. Tomorrow I work from home and hope to finish early to complete some task around the house before going out to dinner with GF's family. It is an early father's day dinner for her dad. We will be going to my parents for my dad on Sunday. It just worked out that way. Saturday GF has a golf lesson session in the morning. I may go fishing while she is doing that I dunno yet. Saturday evening is the concert at the SPAC at 7pm for Hootie & the Blowfish, not sure who is opening for them. That's my weekend in short.

Last night I got home and my package came with my new to me EMD SD70Ace Union Pacific UP 8444. She is a beauty! I will be swapping out the sound decoder to the Tsunami2 that I have on hand. The locomotive looks good no issues to report yet. I have yet to run it on the layout but I need to set it on the program track and do my JMRI programing to see what is what for settings. I may be able to do that Saturday or possibly Friday night who knows.

I paid 220 for it that included shipping so I think I did good all things considered.

Thanks! I was very lucky on this purchase. I looked for this for some time....patience and not being to hasty helps. I am not always fortunate on these types of deals. I usually walk away or I pay more than I want to but I always have these internal battles with myself and over analyze the situation. Do I buy or wait or what.... is there likelihood another one pops up in good condition or will they run a 2nd edition or what? It is a never ending battle. lol
 


Good morning everyone!

Going to be another warm one in Northern Illinois. Looks to hit possibly 90 degrees again. I'm so ready for it! Need to heat the pool water up a few more degrees. A slight chance of storms later tonight, but not a huge chance. Now that the rainfall is getting back to normal summer totals the grass has started to finally slow down.

I had a really good time building the grain elevator, I decide to work on a couple more silo kits for the other side. I have to say this has been a enjoyable project. One mistake I made on the first set was I added the end caps and didn't cut the rounded end top plates square to perfectly sit against the building. This step was not in the directions. I discovered this by going to Walthers website and looking at the newer grain elevator directions (the new darker blue box). I have the older lighter blue box kit. Don't think it will be a big deal, just some sanding, plus it really isn't that noticeable that it sit 1/16" away from the structure. There are a couple of options to fix this.

I did not know you played golf James. I tried to teach my old girlfriend golf back in 1972 and that was a bust, but she did like to go fishing.
I only have 2 pictures of her, and they were both fishing photos. I found them going through some other photos from years ago. I had a boat in Lake Gleneida & West Branch reservoirs. A lot of large Rainbow trout in Lake Gleneida. I only wish I would have keep the photos of the large rainbows we caught there. My present wife not a big fisherman but loved to play golf before her fall 2 years ago.

When I lived in Florida I played golf at least 4 times a week between 2000 and 2010. After I moved up here I didn't golf again until I met my GF as she likes it so I go with her whenever possible as we do enjoy each other's company. Outside that I would not golf at all but go fishing. There is an exception, back in 1985 one of my best friend, he likes to golf as well and well he is the one that taught me and we played until after high school. He went into the NAVY and served 25 years. Whenever he and I got together we would play. I like the game but I am not passionate to it as I am fishing and being on the water....

I tend to rotate my hobbies for me to stay in it for the long haul. I have been single for many years and made sure I had all my toys before getting into relationships...;) I have been married b4......currently this GF has a lot potential for that path but we shall see how that goes.

My hobbies in no particular order:

Trains/model railroading
Fishing/Boating (I used to sail but sold sail boat years ago)
Hunting and gathering (mushrooms, roots etc)
Shooting (target long range 1,100 yds plus, clays, cowboy shot 3 gun)
Traveling world wide (Italy and Spain next year)
Gardening
Tractors (John Deere and Bolens HT20)
Home Improvements
I used to drag race in the Snowbird Nationals and the Gator Nationals but I got out of that at an early age.

That pretty much sums it up....

I doubt they are wasps. They will aggressively defend their nests. Spraying a wasp's nest should provoke a strong reaction. The sting of a wasp is one of the worst of any bee. They are even known to bite!

Yellow Jackets build their nest underground.

They might be carpenter bees or honeybees.

Hornets! They like to build their nests in elevated places.

Was it a wasp or a bee? What we call Yellow Jackets here are what Troy calls Paper Wasps, probably a more correct description. Other than those Paper Wasps, a wasp doesn't generally sting; at least those found in Texas. Bees, on the other hand do sting quite regularly.

We do and we will. For now, our schedule is too busy. I want to spend a week or two with any dog we get to help them to get comfortable with us and the house before we leave them alone for the day.

I called the shelter to see if they had an old house cat nobody wanted, but no luck. We had one cat, Noel, and my wife worried too much when she went outside.
 
Well, howdy there internet peeps.... and those with wasps, hornets, or other arsehole bugs.

My day started with wording 1300+ words to finish chapter two of the latest book. 22 more chapters to go.

Then I worked on assembling my giant. He's going to look like David Bowie in his Starman phase. I just need to find some teddy bear fur to fill his hair loss in. And cut a sparkly shirt out of white fabric.

He stands about 7 in tall. I 3d Printed in 7 parts on the new printer. It's starting to grow on me.

I hooked up the exhaust fan to it, today. the snoot adaptor on the back is 3D printed in PLA filament.

And the handle needs to be installed. but I didn't feel like drilling holes after standing on the step stool to replace 4in flex hose with 3in hose.

Afternoon All,

I'mmmmm Back! We had an awesome vacation. The highlights were the Cumbrie and Toltec RR, the Durango and Silverton RR, a guided tour of the Mesa Verde NP (Pueblos in the mountain side) and a non-working gold mine. At the risk of being labeled a heretic my favorite excursion was Mesa Verde.

The Cumbre and Toltec (Chama NM) are still coal fired but switching to oil. It's pretty much a high desert environment. They had a great free detailed map and a docent that told history and what was coming up. They also had a free buffet lunch at the midpoint.

The Durango and Silverton are all oil fired because of the National Park Service (much of the route runs through a NP). The route is through the forested mountains with the Animas river quite close. There is almost no interaction with the staff while the train is underway. The diesel helper broke down an hour out of Durango and not a word was told to the riders. The train is also about 3x the length of the Cumbre RR.

The Mesa Verde excursion was outstanding. There were 3 couples on the tour with us led by a very knowledgeable and personable private guide. Truly amazing structures in several locations built into the mountain side.

The shut down gold mine tour was led by an actual hard rock miner that explained techniques and demonstrated actual equipment use. The deepest we went in was 1500'.

It will probably be several days before I'm able to start posting some pictures. Today I had the allergy doctor phone visit. He reviewed my episodes, my history, and how they were treated. He thinks I have Idiopathic Uticaria caused for some reason by my immune system dumping histamines into my body.

Swal- Every time I read about what's happening to you I cringe.

Todd- Sure sounds like Murphy moved in.

It would seem you and Terry could both be right!

There are hundreds of thousands of species of wasps, who knew?

A little help- maybe? waspy stuff. some sting, some bite, some do both,some lose their stinger & die.
Re the weather. I am still wearing day & night my winter clothing , which has been on since mid Sept. the weather dude said yest that we have had 2 days since april 1 that hit 20 C ! I keep my suite at 23.
