Afternoon all,

100° and so humid you have to swim.
Kids got the lawn mowed before the sun popped out. Once it did, the heat jumped quick.
Got 3 more cucumbers and harvested the beets. I had 30 seeds, resulting in 7 plants, which 2 died and ended up with 4 beets. One plant never developed a beet. Hopefully they'll be tasty.

I believe that one of the rules to last night's debate was that there was to be no on-air fact-checking by the moderators. I didn't watch so I don't know if they followed up or not. I think that it was done that way to avoid some of the raucous behavior displayed during the 2020 debates. Right or wrong, here's a quote from CNN's political director.
Tiptoeing around the poly tics in this:
Almost: According to this piece in WaPo: it was CNN's decision to keep the fact checking out.

A debate “is not the ideal venue for a live fact-checking exercise,” CNN political director David Chalian told The Washington Post ahead of the event. His moderators’ role, as he saw it, was “to plainly facilitate and moderate a debate … not to be a participant.”

By that measure, Bash and Tapper achieved their mission. Throughout the 90-minute debate, the moderators interjected only sporadically. On two occasions, they pressed Trump to answer their questions he had dodged; on another, Bash stepped in to end a meandering conversation about who was better at golf.

[puts on journalist hat]
Now, remember the old adage about journalism: It's not our job to tell you who's politics are better. But if one says it's raining outside, and other says it's not - go open the #@#$%! window, and check for yourself, then tell the readers/viewers.

I could go farther about the current state of CNN, but I'd be getting into the forbidden stuff.

While the faucet has been discongtinued, have the internal mixing cartridges been discontinued? From my meager experience those are where they usually leak and a lot of faucets from a given brand share the same internals.
I'm sure all the internals were the same. The faucets looked identical on the outside. the only thing that changed were the quick connects were different and the supply line hook-up were plastic hose now instead of cooper like the old ones. the drains were totally different, and much improved over the old set.

Good evening. 59°. today's daytime high 76°. A delightful day.

Spent the afternoon gardening and the evening watching the NHL draft. After Consensus #1 was picked, there were numerous surprises, confounding the pundits. Oh, and the Baltimore Orioles won...so they maintain their hold on 1st in the AL East.

Good morning! It's 79° in Tipton.

Well, howdy there internet peeps and those not on cold meds

It's Troy again.

It's above 70 and wet in The Fort today. I got spoiled being able to open windows in the morning to get some 60ish degree air moving through the house before closing the windows about lunch time as the temps went up.

today it's hot and muggy due to a line of showers moving through. Looks like we should have just rain, and not major storms. Maybe. Indiana weather is fickle.

Wife had fun yesterday on her visit with old co-workers at the Retirement Party, then a trip to see the daughter.

One eye opening experience. Our daughter is in her very early 30s. Wife chatted about "retirement plans" and the stock market with daughter and her live-in boyfriend. She asked if they had plans or were thinking they'd rely on Social Security.

"No! It won't be there for us. Our generation is just planning to work until we die, unless we inherit a ton..."

That opened the wife's eyes. To go farther, it gets into Poly Tics, but the younger generation (those that are not the extremely driven to succeed folks - the extreme end of the spectrum) have a very different and pessimistic view.

On a happier note, today is the wife's 59th birthday. I see a visit to her fav Italian Restaurant in our immediate future, and some ice cream from Culver's tonight.

Good morning all. A day of showers. A large coffee on the go please, Flo.
Taking grandchildren out; once they decide where to.

Dawn is having physiotherapy treatment this afternoon

Good Morning All!

Geesh, we were bad yesterday. Went to Troy for breakfast at a place that was reincarnated. Not bad, I did Chicken Fried Steak, Maria pancakes, sausage patty and eggs. Total came to $25 which is pretty good for around here. After that, Troy seemed to have endless garage sales so we did more than a few of them. Back to Libby and found more garage sales although not as many as Troy. Didn't spend much money ( $30 I think ) and came home with a bunch of experienced items. Throats got pretty dry so off the our local watering hole. Had a few there then went to the Burger Express drive-thru for dinner. By the time we got home, both of us were pretty weary.

NASA is launching a satellite to say 'sorry' to all the UFO's they have been messing with. They are calling the mission 'Apollo G'.

Date a bartender or server as they bring a lot to the table.

Good Morning All. Another clear and warm 79° morning. Will we hit 100° today??? Maybe, maybe not. We brushed it yesterday with 99°, but the weather geeks have been predicting it for the past 10 days and we haven't made it yet. Of course there's not really a lot of difference between 99° and 100°.

Yesterday, Tom O mentioned that there was no TV in the train room. That got me to thinking. All 52 years that we have been married, we have only had one TV in the house. It does change every 6-7 years to a bigger one. Kids were never allowed to have one in their rooms. My daughter #1 has 7 of them including 3 that are in two different outdoor seating areas and around her pool! Daughter #2 has 6, but none outdoors. Last time I was at son's old house, he had 6 including one outside by his pool. What's wrong with me???;)

Same old song and dance with tasks outside yesterday, just less of them since I got bogged down with several inside household chores. Supposed to be more cloudy today, so I may be able to spend more time out there. I like being outdoors! I'll use the pool regardless of the clouds. Other than branches, yard debris from the tornado is pretty much gone except pieces of sheet metal from the barn that are trapped underneath larger branches. No problem since I can't get in there to mow anyway! By the time I compose this every morning, I have already gone for a walk and a swim.

I painted the alley between Garner's Market and the MR III structure yesterday. I just painted the plywood a concrete color and it can't be seen too well.

I really need to get some more .010" sheet styrene and make a proper alley, but I just don't have any in stock right now.
Here's a shot out the train shed window of "Lake Willie" behind the building. Haven't cleared the branches out back there yet.

Over on the workbench, I lined out the next few figure groups that need work. These are just more of the Chinese figures, duplicate figure groups that at least they painted differently! Most of these I will just scrape excessive paint off, remove flash and repaint over what's there. Some colors can be salvaged.

Other than the fellows in the top row with hats, everyone has black hair and black shoes, very sloppily applied like everything else. If they weren't gifts from my granddaughter, I would probably trash many of them.

Tom O - I heartily agree about this fall's election. As I may have posted before, even with third-party candidates thrown in, this election will have the worst choice of candidates since 1976. Our only hope is that we get the right combination of Congressional people to keep the ship upright.
Troy - Happy Birthday to your wife.

I don't think that politics has as much to do with the younger generation's pessimistic views, as their own expectations from life. Most of us here did not grow up with the proverbial silver spoon, we learned early on that we had to work to be happy and successful. For example, I see too many kids nowadays that expect to earn a paycheck while sitting on their couch at home instead of going in to an office. The same ones who borrowed money for college and now want someone else to pay it back for them.
David - Best wishes to Dawn with the physiotherapy treatments today.

Everyone have a super Saturday. Stay cool and hydrated.

6AM here in Clarkdale, AZ. Goin up to a toasty 96 today but should actually break the 1 ton mark again. Just get back from a 2 mile walk down the road and back. The air is a little thinner here at 4,000 feet above sea level.
Played with a couple of my locos on the Wyoming Division Historical Society railroad yesterday. Shot some video of it too. I'll edit that together when I get home in a couple weeks and post it.

Good morning from a dry wake up in Wisconsin. No water is predicted to fall from the skies today but it’s still early and I’m not sure if the guessers even know who Mother nature is. 71 now 83 later

Retirement: Our kids have different outlooks. The daughter doesn’t seem to think savings is needed. The son however does plus he’s active with investment properties that should sustain him down the road. They will get some inheritance but I’m not sure it will be enough to provide for them. We believe in helping them out now so we can see them enjoy it.

TV: I have a large 82” model that seldomly is used down in the cave. Terry has a 42” flat screen that she has on constantly if she is home. The son has 3 and 1 in a bedroom. The daughter has at least 6 and they are all over. I have never had a TV in our bedroom as bedrooms are for sleeping and something else that I can’t remember!

I need breakfast! Flo, may I get the garbage plate special, no mushrooms though!

Enjoy the day
