Good Morning All!

62F @ 74% and overcast

I have decided that the virtues outweigh the bickering and supposed forced rules of the Coffee Shop. I guess in the long run, the edict did not really effect me as I mostly try to post in specific threads vs the shop when necessary. Although I probably have gone out of bounds here and there. Hay! I am not perfect. I do hope some of those that are self exiled realize the same thing and start posting again.

In my exile post, HERE I stated that putting a 'teaser' pix in the shop might be the way to post here and another topic. Well, being a user of spinning disks with finite size, putting the same pix in two places does not make sense to me. From the menu you can put a link to another post, but I see no way to insert a link for a pix that lives in the other topic. So for the burning question: How do I do that - or is it even possible? If so, how about a 'how to', if not - can the code be modified to do just that?

Anyway, we were off to Missoula on Friday to meet the Daughter's squeeze parents. They came in from Oklahoma City to spend time with the kids and should be outa there this morning. Went to dinner with them Friday at a Mexican place that did not have a bar. What? Mexican place without a bar? What gives? The Daughter apparently kept them busy Friday through Yesterday so I suspect that they will fall apart come getting home. Nice people and we enjoyed it all.

We took Montana 200 down and back of which I wanted to stop at Paradise for some pix of the NP freight depot there as sooner or later I will scratch build it for spot(s) on my layout. It is not a depot anymore; has changed into a MRL crew/maintenance building. I seem to remember that this was also a 'Flag Stop' for the North Coast Limited; more research for that. There also is a 'tie plant' there of which I need to get back again and check that out. We went South to I90 at Paradise to St Regis - boy, if you can get that way you will totally enjoy the scenery and you may even see some trains. There are at least 6 bridges over the Clark Fork that are pretty easy to get near for pix. I did get a couple pix of an empty coal move ( Eastbound ) - 2 miler and will post in Prototype Railroads in a bit.

On the way back I got this when we pulled up to the 'construction traffic light' just before Kootenai Falls.

This is a West bound grainer of which I have rarely seen a UP on the front! Sorry for the road level pix as it was pulling out just as we pulled up.

Y'all be good now - ya hear?

#473 in Silverton with an all female crew: first time in 142 years!

View attachment 169822
Amtrak and Conrail have had all female crews for decades, but what's noteworthy here, is that this crew operates a steam powered train. (Something that I am not qualified to do even with 42 years of operating experience. Also note that while the Silverton is known as a tourist line, this crew is required to have the same FRA certifications - Engineer and Conductor - that they would need on a Class 1 railroad. Great story.

I think that the coffee shop (or similar) is the heart of many forums, it shows the values those members have, you can quickly see if if there are any nasty commenters, and if they get away with it,you can often see any bullying that goes unchecked reflected here,as a bully left unleashed usually can’t resist showing off that he can get away with it.

That is why I liked it here when I arrived, there was joking, sharing of one’s life (which thanks to Covid or I’ll health etc can curtail peoples woes) I have seen any number of people ask and receive advice here. I saw Terry fairly and squarely cuff ears when required with no meanness, I have been pulled up myself when I get ott,and stood back and took it.

I even spellcheck occasionally and add the odd return to stop winding poor Troy, our man of words, and giving him heart failure….grins.

I do not always catch everything, sone times I gallop through, but the thing I know is if I am sat down with my iPad and have the time I can come here and catch the odd word of wisdom, I can see great real or modelled reference (which may lead me to a thread, or asking where I may find said thread) I have followed people onto threads I would never have even investigated because if I see them post I expect it to be worth my while. I have share people’s woes and tried to support people if I think I can, sometimes somewhat bull in China shop, but never will ill intent, Usually if I disagree or am not interested I just scroll past to the bits I like, and see names of people who I usually ensure I read, even if I do not engage because a reply is unnecessary,i give likes as I do like and I want to encourage those, and I like the sharing,am I interested persay in the weather now,do I like seeing it others sharing this and subliminally intake I do and have no issues, people are sharing,it’s a short hand I don’t have much to say so here’s my weather….

mistakes are made, been there, done that, got the t shirt, but when made I find it best to own up and apologise, people think more of someone in my experience for being willing to take ownership and say sorry, especially if someone has been roped in even if they then go ott (over the top) are any of us infallible not likely, we are all human.

During my right to post railway I used words with x while clearly using off tone words, and I will hold my hand up and apologise if I offended anyone, I could go back and change such words if anyone prefers I can typed (edited) afterwards so any who know then see I have cleaned up my act think I’m cheating.

As mentioned none of us is perfect.Well I certainly am not.

Yo, Good morning! 71°, cloudy and close, with a 20% chance of rain. The likelihood of rain will increase to 80% by tonight. No Air Quality Alerts for today, but there is a smell of smoke about...No Tropical Weather activity in the Atlantic this morning.

I'm killing time, until it's time to leave for the cardiac Rehab...two more days...Graduation is Wednesday. ;) See the Pulmonary Doctor Tomorrow, then I'm done with doctors until September...;) Need to build myself a weight bench for use with dumbbells.

The lawn and yard are shaping up, finally. Hope to finish before it gets too hot. We do need meaningful rain.

I have been doing everything but working on the model railroad. Need to concentrate on scenery, and scenes now that the bulk of the track work is done.

This photo captures three "prototype based" locations that need attention to make them complete, and look right. From Left to right, we have Penn Steel Castings, a facility that dated back to the 1880s and remained a working facility until it burned down in 1970. Base structure will be Walthers Vulcan Manufacturing buildings that are reasonably close to the prototype in architecture. In the middle, is the Chester River, and the Readings 1890 era movable bridge... On he right, the Municipal Marine Terminal, and Warehouse. Known as "Consumer's Warehouse in the 1960s and 1970s., this facility handled paper products, pulp, lumber and dimensional vessels.

And now from my file of prototype railroad activity,

Frankford Junction station, in Philadelphia, PA. Two tracks in the foreground are the Delair Branch leading to Camden and South Jersey points. To the left of the subway at the bottom left of the photo, are the tracks of the main Line, New York to Philadelphia. What is noteworthy, is that this PRR station is being released by Walthers, this Summer, as part of their "General" passenger train project, announced two years ago.

Trivia: The "General" was an "All Pullman" train between New York and Chicago, which was named after Gen. William Wallace Atterbury, a former President of the Pennsylvania Railroad. General Atterbury, was named to head the USRA, after Woodrow Wilson nationalized the Railroads during World War 1. For marketing purposes, the PRR utilized the General to compete specifically with the NYC Commodore Vanderbilt..."After all, the General out ranks the Commodore".

Willy and Todd: Welcome Back! Hopefully, we will get a ruling resolving the current dispute...
Troy: Love it! Jaz: Likewise.

And yes, I am making my point this morning. Think I covered all bases. Pax.

Good Morning!

Not much time to make a proper post. I have to work for an old client today.
It's the downside of being an ex-contractor, that folks seem to remember you can fix things and don't understand what retirement means.
I have a hard time saying, "No - Call someone else", when they are the ones responsible for my successes in the first place.

Catch ya'll later!

Just a thought!
I believe that #473 is a coal burner - not positive as some conversions to oil have been in progress?

My thought was that they won't be quite as clean after operation? I think a lady with coal dust and soot in her hair and face would be very cute!
I know, I am twisted!

This place is as quiet as a graveyard - come on train fans ... Ignore the edict ... damn the torpedoes - full speed ahead! We are not governed by a king, maybe except the owner?

FLO - bacon and eggs up with sourdough toast and hash browns - if MEL even has the grill on this morning?

We finally had some much-needed rain yesterday and overnight. I'm sure the farmers are thankful. I know I am, and I just have a small garden.

Regarding the kerfuffle... I find some people's behavior to be spiteful. Or... perhaps "revelling" is more a more precise description of how I perceive some people's behavior. I have to ask myself why some people seem to revel in another person's peril. Not the sort of people I want to be associated with.

Life is too long to live it while feeling compelled to prove that someone else was wrong. It's so much more peaceful to live and let live.

I can have no serenity if I believe everyone should think and act as I do.

Take the wife to a preservation line, get her on a steam engine, when it goes through a tunnel persuade her to look out……and bingo…..cannot guarantee her reaction but just keep saying, “But Darling you look so cute.” And repeat until she calms down, and tell her the bathroom does not work in this old engine. Whistles innocently.

Incidentally this happened to me, but my half looked, held a straight face for like 3 seconds then laughed…I went to the bathroom to see what he was laughing at the swine

A free man! At least on parole. I'm glad to hear it. I hope all goes well. Splendid work getting back on track and no crane was needed.
Did you look on Amazon for a weight bench? They sometimes have some amazing deals and bring them to your door!

There may not be a lot of posts, but quality makes up for quantity. Every single post I read since I left for work this morning is outstanding! The surprise is I read them all! What is not surprising is the quality of the people who posted them.

One good thing came from all this commotion. My buddy Sherrel is back! :D :D :D

I have decided that the virtues outweigh the bickering and supposed forced rules of the Coffee Shop.
I'm glad you did, thank you!

Spite, hate, anger and all negative feelings are counterproductive. No good will come from them.
Even good people make mistakes and act inappropriately from time to time. Follow me around for a day or two and I'll show you. I may not be so good, but I am trying.

Life is too long to live it while feeling compelled to prove that someone else was wrong. It's so much more peaceful to live and let live.
Spot on! I could not agree more.
