Willie mentioned that this was Les Paul's birthday. Here's a photo of my Les Paul in honor of the day.

Good afternoon. 80°, breezy and sunny. Overnight rain storm yielded 0.25" of rain.

The rain came to an end, about the time we had to leave for the Penn Med Facility. Surprisingly, the trip went well, as did the tests. The process was shorter than the allocated time, and I was able to see the PA early. I was checked out before my final scheduled appointment was scheduled to start. We discussed test results, and options, and I have a follow up scheduled for September.

Test Results: I don't have a Aortic Aneurysm, or DVT. I do have Vein Reflux. Treatment options include compression socks, walking at least 30" / day, elevating legs when at rest, and corrective outpatient surgery. No Life Threatening issues. While I mull my options, I need to go to my Orthopedic Guy and have my ankles, hips and right knee checked out, along with my lumbar spine area.:(

Meanwhile, I see my Cardiologist on Monday, and plan on discussing the tests with him.

In spite of the computer generated BS, that had me so pissed the other day, I give Penn medicine an A. The advance check in actually worked...(first time for everything).

Meanwhile, Got an text from my Primary...He recently sold his practice to a larger group not affiliated with a Hospital. They want me to check in "Now", for an appointment two weeks from now....

I get to take the CTS to Cadillac tomorrow for an oil change / safety check... Car is 14 years this summer. Figure on browsing while waiting. Not sure what I might want.

Troy and Tom O':
Embezzlement always comes as a shock, because the guilty party is usually a sterling character, beyond reproach. Our judgmental human nature casts suspicion to one type of personality, but over looks the actions of the righteous in appearance. That's why they get away with it for so long.

Ummmm, I might offer $350.27.
I still not cannot see how it could be valued so high, with sponsorship with wages with butts on seats, with franchising their image, with tv deals, there is still just no way there is a percentage profit on that much of even 1 percent it’s obscene, it is like saying hey the real price for my Tesla is 50k I wonder if I can con some sucker to pay me 5million 100 times more than it’s worth,

Good Morning All. Partly cloudy and a rather cool 69° here this morning. Mother Nature defied all forecasters yesterday, our high was 10° below the forecast of 93°. Today is forecast to be 89°, then touching or exceeding triple digits tomorrow through Sunday. It sure looked like it might rain yesterday, a massive system was barrelling this way from Colorado, but basically stopped right at the TX/OK border just 25 miles away and moved east.

Got the lab results from Tuesday's blood draw. Almost all were well within limits except red blood cell count was a bit low. That means I need to eat more red meat. Could it be that I have had so much blood drawn in the last week??? A1c stayed the same at 5.6 so doc is happy, so am I. A year ago it was 7.0.

Being as it was such a cool day yesterday, I mowed a lot. Made three 45 minute sessions instead of two. I also cut down a tree that had died unexpectedly. It was a 20 year old Maple tree that was about 30' tall. Lots of unexpected firewood after I get around to cutting it up. Garden is doing well, but the tomatoes just aren't turning red yet.
Today is the weekly grocery/beer trek to Denton. Got to do an Amazon return for the wife that she forgot to do before she left. Easy enough but it is an extra stop. Just hand the UPS guy the package and let him scan the QR code on the phone. Amazon really makes it easy. Actually OK though as I have to stop by the Vitamin Shop next door.

Thanks to all who commented or liked yesterday's post.

I didn't do much out in the train shed yesterday. I applied primer to some of the stuff that I received Tuesday. No pictures of that mundane process.
Nothing stands out from the archives to post this morning except this whimsical scene with a couple of "good ole boys" trying to capture and butcher a goose.

Guy - I took the Longhorn pictures from the car and didn't realize the fence post was in the way; kinda like a utility pole growing out of an engine.;) There were other cars coming from both directions, so I just snapped and moved on. Longhorns are really quite docile, I actually could have walked right up to that fence. My main intent was to get the pictures for reference for painting.
Note in that picture, this fellow down the road uses his weed-wacker along 1000' of barbed wire fencing along the roadside. He also mows this and the pasture behind it with his riding mower. Those round hay bales are there to fool the tax assessor into thinking that he deserves an agricultural exemption on his property taxes. He grows that hay on a different field.
Joe - I know that you are on the road or in the medical facility right now, but I 100% agree with your commentary yesterday.
Todd - Mel's Diner is a fictional place from the long running TV show called Alice from the 70's-80's. Here's a Wikipedia link.
Mel's Diner
James - Enjoy your time here in Texas. It will be hot though. Lake Fork has the biggest bass in TX. Have a safe trip.
Jaz - I only grow the soft skin summer squash like Yellow Straightneck and Zucchini. The hard shell winter varieties like Acorn or Butternut do not produce reliably here.

Today is Donald Duck Day. And in keeping with the gossip news, it's Johnny Depp's birthday. But of more significance to me, today would have been guitarist Les Paul's 107th birthday. He passed away in 2009, aged 94.
Everyone have a great and safe day.
Love the duck

Hearing loss.
I really hate extended conversations.
People tend to talk with very little breath behind their words which makes it more like they are just muttering to themselves. It becomes very difficult to keep up with what's being said. As strenuous as a hearing test. Eventually I'll walk away.
I have hearing loss from my days in the Corps. Weapons fire, radio systems, loud vehicles and aircraft. Some people get pretty crabby when I ask them to say again. As if I volunteered to have hearing loss, like they are going to brow beat me into hearing better.

KEN - Besides shooting thousands of rounds during H/S and college - then airports and planes (not to forget the oil field and huge motors). My Wife has the habit of talking to me with her hand near her mouth - then becomes irritated when I cannot hear what she said. Right ear is 90% gone and the left ear maybe 50% there. I cannot understand what any of the daughters say; they talk so fast and dont place any emphiss on words.
At parties and gatherings - I tend to stay more by myself ... hearing in a crowd is about impossible even standing next to the speaker.

Good evening. 76° and clear. Trip was a good ride, 6'15" including gas stop and pit stop. Found lawn was cut, probably on Friday. Son and grand kids are encouraging us to move to the North Country. Not sure I like the prospects of dealing with snow and cold like they get there.
Everything is turned on, and back to normal, and tonight I get to sleep in my own bed.
Joe- eventually, you get acclimated to the colder climate(& longer winter season). I moved up here to North Central Wisconsin almost a decade ago(Labor Day weekend, 2012). Plus, winter gives you plenty of train room time.
Willie- the other advantage to the train is not having to go thru the Recombobulation after the TSA ordeal, as well as being able to get up & walk around when I want.

When you are worth $70 billion and your son in law is worth 30 billion, 4.65 billion is chump change.
Tom- this sale represents now 2 NFL teams with familial ties to the Walton family.
Joe- if the sale had gone to the Harris-Blitzer Group, the owner of the Sixers/Devils would have had to divest in minority share in the Stillers. Rumor had it that he was willing to go as high as 1/2 $1B.

Ken (D&J) & Sherrel - I have hearing aids because I have just 50% in each ear, but individual conversations are still hard to distinguish. I can hear people talking but cannot always understand what they are saying. That is despite my very expensive aids having four different noise suppression levels; restaurant/party, music, wind, and normal. They also have 14 volume settings, but I now regularly use #9. The best people to talk to after explaining why I ask them to repeat are medical professionals except doctors. It seems that they regularly speak to persons older than I and understand my issue. The worst is my wife who speaks facing the other direction and gets irritated when I ask her to speak to me instead of the wall. I cannot just turn the volume up to max like she wants because it amplifies everything else like the refrigerator or A/C cycling. Same with traffic noises when driving. And of course I take them out when I retire for the evening; and don't remember to put them back in until she gets mad the next morning.:( Same with the pool or the shower!

Mike: Yeah, that's true. But which is the better investment. The Devils fan base is really upset with the way they are running the team and the arena.
Especially considering the quick turnaround of the team across the River in Gotham.

I know that eventually, I would get used to the environment, and it is probably much better than Onslow County, NC which is another alternative. (The winters are milder, the summers, are worse, very hot and humid).

Willy, Sherrel and Ken: Years of riding head ends of trains, being around hump retarders, and under hundreds of low flying aircraft on the approach to EWR have taken a toll. I can hear the wife when the TV , washer, dryer, or dish washer are off, and she is not whispering. Lately, I notice she is having trouble hearing me...must be because I forgot how to enunciate or something...

I have said to my wife hundreds of times -- If you are going to talk to me -- then first say something to get my attention, then look at me when you are talking, then take your hand away from your mouth?
Doesn't help a great deal - she forgets and here we go again!

I bought some cheapo (I call them amplifiers off the Bay for less than $30.
They are not bad - and really help me a lot - when I can remember to use them?

Went to G-Sons graduation from grade school in Newport this afternoon. Took a while to read over 350 names - then all (every damn one) the admin had to make a speech - that part was boring and I don't think a 14 year old gives a rat's a$$!

ASUS computer would not boot at all today - took it to B-Buy Geeks, told them to pull off all files and photos and then "scrap it". No charge, I have the $99 a year service and found out that they will come to the house too under the plan! I did not know that?

My daughter had the 8th grade promotion (graduation) last week -- going from Middle School to High School. There were only around 60-70 kids in the 8th grade. They read each one but read them in groups of 3-5 and had them come up to get a certificate and shke hands/fist bump around 10 teachers and admins. Since it was a "receiving line" you could have multiple kids in it at once.

A teacher and an admin gave short speeches. 5 of the kids spoke as well -- about 1-3 minutes each. The whole thing was over in less than an hour. Was nice. They also had potluck afterwards, though it was mostly salads and deserts and stuff. The school provided hot dogs and a few people brought "main dish" things. It was my kind of celebration.

Ya, even with my aids when the mask crap happened hearing went out the window. I did not realize how much I lip read until Maria said something about it. And then they put a glass/plastic barrier between ya. Guess it is time to start learning sign?

Willie:

I have bluetooth on my new Hearing Aids. Since I try to get a walk in soon after sunrise and listen to either a podcast or an audio book (currently one about the invasion of Sicily in WW2).

So, I put the hearing aids in for the walk. The problem is remembering to remove them when I shower.

DANG, WILLIE, You are up early - wait - no, that's me up early.
OK, GOOD MORNING RR fans and those who cannot hear!

66 this morning - and that is not the highway route?
We are looking for 92 later on still under cloudless skies!

CHAD - I like your GRAD program better ... we had nothing to drink except what we brought snd zero in the foodie department. I understand though because there must have been 2-3 thousand in the football stadium counting parents, g. parents, and other offspring including friends and neighbors? It was held at the H/S that he will be attending and I have never seen such a display of, I guess I could say, wealth? The stadium and grounds were akin to a well manicured golf course - well - that's Newport!

MEL, where;s FLO this morning? Scrambled, please, with a side of bacon - hsve to get it here as can't afford it at the grocery!

Well, howdy there internet people.

It's Troy again...

I just got a message from a friend down in the old stomping grounds around Indy.... seems another acquaintance was just arrested on charges of embezzling $27,000-ish dollars from a small HS athletic booster. o_O

Shocker! I said a lot of words that would need special characters like *!#% to replicate here.:eek:

Still in shock. Sounds like it was toooooo tempting to have a debit card linked to that booster club's bank account.

WOW!

The fellow had been hitting everyone up on facebook for a gofundme to pay for his son's upcoming mission trip. I'm not inclined to support religious missions (being agnostic). But he kept asking via private message... and he passed the annoying level of asking.

Now it makes sense.

WOW!

OK... now that is off my chest... nope... one more

WOW! SMH...

Got the first of the new unfinished cabinets down into the basement. Decided I'd paint them down here. And then I remembered I'm going to need to move the outlet that will be BEHIND the cabinets. And, this is going to be a wet location, so I need to get a GFI outlet.

Got my project for next week. Gotta crawl under the staircase (which has a 180° landing halfway down) to work on the electric. I've been back in that corner before. It's tight but workable.

OK, going to go say WOW! a few more times.
It is really shocking when someone you know, however little turns out to be doing something underhand, lending you a power tool then admitting they stole it from work definitely ensured it’s quick return, even though only half way through, went and hired one instead. wiped it for my finger marks too!
Stealing from others seems to be ‘fashionable’ anyone who can get their hands on cash is not above it so it seems, apologies to those who don’t, you know wher I am coming from, I personally worked for a company where the finance officer was given single authority to signed checks, emptied the business accounts with a new one million loan and left the country. A friend set up business with someone of the same surname, they emptied the account and did a runner, some woman managing a company not only stole from the shop she managed but managed to get her fingers into 2 other shops before caught, the only person I trust is my husband, and frankly I keep my beady eye on him….lol.Although he earns it, so he probably keeps his beady eye on me! lucky for him I am not into designer handbags etc.
