If they limit him to 50 pitches per outing, he might make it to Labor Day, before his next injury. I blame the team for sheltering him over the years.Steven Strasburg is making his first start tonight!!! I'm hoping he alone is worth at least 10 wins this season
I still not cannot see how it could be valued so high, with sponsorship with wages with butts on seats, with franchising their image, with tv deals, there is still just no way there is a percentage profit on that much of even 1 percent it’s obscene, it is like saying hey the real price for my Tesla is 50k I wonder if I can con some sucker to pay me 5million 100 times more than it’s worth,Ummmm, I might offer $350.27.
Love the duckGood Morning All. Partly cloudy and a rather cool 69° here this morning. Mother Nature defied all forecasters yesterday, our high was 10° below the forecast of 93°. Today is forecast to be 89°, then touching or exceeding triple digits tomorrow through Sunday. It sure looked like it might rain yesterday, a massive system was barrelling this way from Colorado, but basically stopped right at the TX/OK border just 25 miles away and moved east.
Got the lab results from Tuesday's blood draw. Almost all were well within limits except red blood cell count was a bit low. That means I need to eat more red meat. Could it be that I have had so much blood drawn in the last week??? A1c stayed the same at 5.6 so doc is happy, so am I. A year ago it was 7.0.
Being as it was such a cool day yesterday, I mowed a lot. Made three 45 minute sessions instead of two. I also cut down a tree that had died unexpectedly. It was a 20 year old Maple tree that was about 30' tall. Lots of unexpected firewood after I get around to cutting it up. Garden is doing well, but the tomatoes just aren't turning red yet.
Today is the weekly grocery/beer trek to Denton. Got to do an Amazon return for the wife that she forgot to do before she left. Easy enough but it is an extra stop. Just hand the UPS guy the package and let him scan the QR code on the phone. Amazon really makes it easy. Actually OK though as I have to stop by the Vitamin Shop next door.
Thanks to all who commented or liked yesterday's post.
I didn't do much out in the train shed yesterday. I applied primer to some of the stuff that I received Tuesday. No pictures of that mundane process.
Nothing stands out from the archives to post this morning except this whimsical scene with a couple of "good ole boys" trying to capture and butcher a goose.

Guy - I took the Longhorn pictures from the car and didn't realize the fence post was in the way; kinda like a utility pole growing out of an engine. There were other cars coming from both directions, so I just snapped and moved on. Longhorns are really quite docile, I actually could have walked right up to that fence. My main intent was to get the pictures for reference for painting.
Note in that picture, this fellow down the road uses his weed-wacker along 1000' of barbed wire fencing along the roadside. He also mows this and the pasture behind it with his riding mower. Those round hay bales are there to fool the tax assessor into thinking that he deserves an agricultural exemption on his property taxes. He grows that hay on a different field.
Joe - I know that you are on the road or in the medical facility right now, but I 100% agree with your commentary yesterday.
Todd - Mel's Diner is a fictional place from the long running TV show called Alice from the 70's-80's. Here's a Wikipedia link.
Mel's Diner
James - Enjoy your time here in Texas. It will be hot though. Lake Fork has the biggest bass in TX. Have a safe trip.
Jaz - I only grow the soft skin summer squash like Yellow Straightneck and Zucchini. The hard shell winter varieties like Acorn or Butternut do not produce reliably here.
Today is Donald Duck Day. And in keeping with the gossip news, it's Johnny Depp's birthday. But of more significance to me, today would have been guitarist Les Paul's 107th birthday. He passed away in 2009, aged 94.
Everyone have a great and safe day.
Joe- eventually, you get acclimated to the colder climate(& longer winter season). I moved up here to North Central Wisconsin almost a decade ago(Labor Day weekend, 2012). Plus, winter gives you plenty of train room time.Good evening. 76° and clear. Trip was a good ride, 6'15" including gas stop and pit stop. Found lawn was cut, probably on Friday. Son and grand kids are encouraging us to move to the North Country. Not sure I like the prospects of dealing with snow and cold like they get there.
Everything is turned on, and back to normal, and tonight I get to sleep in my own bed.
Tom- this sale represents now 2 NFL teams with familial ties to the Walton family. When you are worth $70 billion and your son in law is worth 30 billion, 4.65 billion is chump change.
Mike: Yeah, that's true. But which is the better investment. The Devils fan base is really upset with the way they are running the team and the arena.Joe- if the sale had gone to the Harris-Blitzer Group, the owner of the Sixers/Devils would have had to divest in minority share in the Stillers. Rumor had it that he was willing to go as high as 1/2 $1B
Went to G-Sons graduation from grade school in Newport this afternoon. Took a while to read over 350 names - then all (every damn one) the admin had to make a speech - that part was boring and I don't think a 14 year old gives a rat's a$$!
Ya, even with my aids when the mask crap happened hearing went out the window. I did not realize how much I lip read until Maria said something about it. And then they put a glass/plastic barrier between ya. Guess it is time to start learning sign?Hearing loss.
I really hate extended conversations.
People tend to talk with very little breath behind their words which makes it more like they are just muttering to themselves. It becomes very difficult to keep up with what's being said. As strenuous as a hearing test. Eventually I'll walk away.
I have hearing loss from my days in the Corps. Weapons fire, radio systems, loud vehicles and aircraft. Some people get pretty crabby when I ask them to say again. As if I volunteered to have hearing loss, like they are going to brow beat me into hearing better.
It is really shocking when someone you know, however little turns out to be doing something underhand, lending you a power tool then admitting they stole it from work definitely ensured it’s quick return, even though only half way through, went and hired one instead. wiped it for my finger marks too!Well, howdy there internet people.
It's Troy again...
I just got a message from a friend down in the old stomping grounds around Indy.... seems another acquaintance was just arrested on charges of embezzling $27,000-ish dollars from a small HS athletic booster.
Shocker! I said a lot of words that would need special characters like *!#% to replicate here.
Still in shock. Sounds like it was toooooo tempting to have a debit card linked to that booster club's bank account.
WOW!
The fellow had been hitting everyone up on facebook for a gofundme to pay for his son's upcoming mission trip. I'm not inclined to support religious missions (being agnostic). But he kept asking via private message... and he passed the annoying level of asking.
Now it makes sense.
WOW!
OK... now that is off my chest... nope... one more
WOW!SMH...
Got the first of the new unfinished cabinets down into the basement. Decided I'd paint them down here. And then I remembered I'm going to need to move the outlet that will be BEHIND the cabinets. And, this is going to be a wet location, so I need to get a GFI outlet.
Got my project for next week. Gotta crawl under the staircase (which has a 180° landing halfway down) to work on the electric. I've been back in that corner before. It's tight but workable.
OK, going to go say WOW! a few more times.
