Good Sunday morning, Coffee Shop! It's 70°F (21°C) and hazy.

Weather:
Mostly sunny. Patchy fog toward daybreak. Areas of smoke. Highs in the lower 80s. Northeast winds around 5 mph.

Concert in the park was cancelled due to weather (😢) and rescheduled to next Sunday.:)

Have a great day!;)

This one is better:
Sorry, but while that looks fun and funny, an operational flightdeck is not the place to be doing sh!t like that. He's causing a distraction in a dangerous function that everybody needs to be concentrating in. If anyone gets hurt, I hope that he's the only one and the air boss gets a letter that could end his career for allowing that to happen. The white shirts should have shut that cr@p down.

Edited to take my initial harshness out.

Good morning. It's cloudy and 77.
How are you feeling after your "not fun" day? Take it easy today if you can

@chadbag Remind your daughter it is the same game she played back home. All she needs to do is give best effort, have fun and don't worry about mistakes. Almost every day in MLB i see multi-millionaire players make mistakes. And Dad, make sure she hears you cheering! We are all rooting for her. Win or lose she won't disappoint any one of us, she has already done great!

Speaking of MLB players making mistakes. Whie watching This Week in Baseball, they showed a highlight... yeah i guess so, of the 1981 All-Star Game. Fernado Valenzula made a brilliant play to snag a ball heading up the middle. He correctly turned to throw to second to start a double play, but no body covered second! WTF! In the All-Star Game no less!

No matter what sport you follow you will see mistakes, even at the highest levels.

Good Morning All. Partly cloudy and 76°, supposedly the last day with the daytime high in the 90's before a never-ending string of triple-digits.

So it goes!

Looks like the kinky happenings on the forum caused me to have a double-post yesterday morning. Sorry for the confusion.

Not much happening either yesterday or today at the SFW ranch. I remember the dishwasher and some push mowing from yesterday. Today starts with Mass as usual.

Visitors yesterday afternoon dashed any work out in the train shed, but I did get to run trains for them. Neighbor Bubba brought his 7 year old granddaughter down to see them.

Alan -
From a wildlife photographer I follow. He had posted pics of bison and gotten comments about the guy. The information there was "broken pelvis and other injuries and may not survive". It seems conflicting reports were issued or maybe the injuries grew in the telling. I'm glad to hear it's less severe. Still not funny though.
Doesn't make for a good story without the "may not survive" part in it. The story with the video when I first posted it claimed minor injuries. I hope that no one got the idea that I posted it as a funny video, but just as a response to the post #534 that Michael had made.
Chad - Continued good luck for your daughter.

Both Queen guitarist and founder Brian May; and Eagles guitarist and founder Bernie Leadon are 79 today.

Everyone have a great Sunday.

78°F/76°F at 0800 already. Pork steaks turned out great. I don't buy them very often and always forget how good they are if grilled correctly. First time in about three or four years that I've made them.

Willow enjoyed the bone too.

Nothing going on here except heat and humidity. Another day in the rain forest.

Have a great Sunday. Servus!

Good morning gang!

75° under sunny skies looking for a high today of 82°. Your quality is much improved as we have an air quality index of 37 today. Oh what a difference a shift in the wind direction makes.

Time to sort my pills into their respective daily slots for the week grab breakfast and then get the lawn. Knocked out.

BBL

Good morning all!

Should be a fairly nice day today. Currently a sunny 71F. The high is only supposed to reach 82F.

The only thing on the agenda today is mowing and trimming, and of course, the pool later this afternoon.

That's about all that is going on at the moment. Lets hope it stays that way!

Have a safe day everyone!

Good morning from again smoked filled So. Central Wisconsin. Yesterday was great as the AQI dropped to 41 yesterday afternoon. Around 8 last night I told Terry I could smell the smoke again but the index was just over 50. This morning well it’s 235 and the 5 minutes I had been outside was 5 too many. So back inside I scurried. I have spent very little time outdoors this week and I’m getting antsy. We are supposed to do our every other year visit to we see the Brewers game against I think the Mets on Tuesday. If the AQI is like this we’ll stay home as Milwaukee air this week has consistently been even worst than ours. We are 79 miles to the Brewer parking lots from our new front door.,

I have too many projects to work on and absolutely no ambition to work on them. Somehow I need to get motivated and like a complete Jack’s backside I agreed to another. Friday I actually talked myself into this one. 175 complete trees by 10/15/2026 for a 2 level blob at the entrance to the layout we’ve been working on the last 21 months. I promised to have my part done and I will but what an idiot I am. The guys in the car on the way home naturally reminded me of it. Terry laughed when I told her and I mentioned she may need to help me. She stopped laughing as she said “ you’re serious”. I texted my 2 good friends aka as the chauffeurs I may need help with the trees in August and both said let them know the days and times. I priced out materials yesterday morning and for the 1st time in maybe forever the modeling supplies are cheaper from Amazon than Michaels, my LHS or Hiawatha Hobbies. It’s by quite a bit like 40% on the wire, but only 10% on fiber cloth. While cheaper for this purchase the overall total still higher than a couple years ago when I last purchased tree materials.

The breakdown is 112 Maples with 35 at 8”, 55 at 6.75” and 22 at 5”. 40 Quaking Aspens (my big nemesis) of which 15 are built from a previous over runaround at 6”. The remaining 25 will be at 7.5”. Finally the birches, both paper and yellow totalling 23. They will be 4.5 to 5.5” split 50/50. I broke down the tree mix based on a 70% hardwoods and 30% softwood mix which will be 60 conifer he purchased before Covid and will re-use. The data came from the US Forest Services wonderful data base for the Negaunee area of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. Once I get the supplies and get rolling I should be ok!

These 4 pictures are roughly a 18’ long area on deck #2 that I was the helper to our master landscaper. The cardboard webbing is in

Next up are 2 inspirational pictures, one is a book cover the other is a drone picture Bob or Noah took and posted during a text messaging session we had Friday evening of about 6 of us who have helped build the layout

This is the one below I liked the most. We were looking for fall coloring without super bright colors. This was a drone picture from the Wisconsin & Upper Michigan’s chief dispatcher Noah H, that he posted in the group session. This near Negaunee.
3e419d94c7cdaade50109a32bc65acb6.jpeg

Then of course I fed Ai much of the info from the text messaging sessions and it created this scene that both Bob the owner and John the landscaper loved and it will be used for the inspirational land forms and that I will use as the tree coloring guide to happiness!
IMG_7547.png

The owner was going to expand (widen) the upper deck in this area by 3” that will not interfere with the 1st deck below. Figured he’ll do that by tonight.

Ignore the 1st level as I gave Ai no info so it created its own 1st deck

No I will not start a thread but occasionally will post a picture here. The landforms on both levels will move initially quite fast. The rock cropping will slow things down and planting of the trees will happen in October for deck 2 with land forms and ground cover only on deck 1. This will be fun once I get into it.

Enjoy your day

Latest says the guy's femur is broken in four places near the hip. That's a lot for someone in our demographic. My wife often helps our disabled daughter (who is 36) with stairs and such too much. I had to scold her about this, as a broken hip at our age is serious, and could mean lifelong changes to one's mobility. I didn't mean to go after anyone for making light of what happened to the guy, I just felt the need to remind that he wasn't cruising for a Darwin award. If he was, I wouldn't have said anything. Stupid is as stupid does. I think many just assumed he was acting a fool and got what he deserved, which wasn't the case. If a guy was walking down a sidewalk minding his own business and got creamed by a car that ran up on that sidewalk... Same thing but with a large animal. Poor guy was in the wrong place at the wrong time. His only sin was having terribly bad luck.

On a happier note: Yes, I like the way you have populated your scenes. I always enjoy looking at them. Even after a layout is complete (if it ever really is) you can spend lots of time adding these little snapshots of people doing what they do. It takes the expression from just the trains to trains and the reason they exist. Great stuff. The original scene I commented on was incomplete. It has a good amount of vehicles for downtown on a Saturday, or rush hour. It's not complete yet, needs sidewalks and pedestrians, but he has room for that, which many either leave out or compress too much. I once attended a clinic by Miles Hale where he discussed building spacing, sidewalks, parking, and streets for a realistic urban scene. Things we may overlook in favor of the trains.

Alan I agree with you. My sister has Parkinson’s and is a danger to herself and whoever she is with on stairs.

As for the flying Yellowstone guy. I posted before you but actually had read he was just bruised but I thought he was auditioning for the Darwin awards in the Bison category. Then later from an interview ofbthe guy who held the camera videoing the event said it was unfortunate luck of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. I find it really difficult now to distinguish from what’s real or not, what to believe as truth or not. The only thing that has stayed consistent over the years is if any politician is talking it’s still BS

Stay out of the smoke

.

Morning All! 69 in the Brew City this morning. Brrrr... where are my long johns? 🤣 Going to 82 today. How refreshing! The AC is actually not running at the moment. The smoke is back, air quality is 240 here, purple for those who do the color scale. Too many wildfires around the continent. I get Mother Nature is pissed, but this is getting old. Oh well...there's always the work bench, and I have to move some furniture out of one of the guest rooms. Momma bought new bedroom furniture so if we have company, they can have a comfortable place to sleep. She's also eyeing the second bedroom which happens to be my office. Stand by for heavy rolls, as I won't be easily persuaded to give that up. Life remains interesting! Enjoy your Sunday!

Yep, that makes three versions of the story, and there was that biker chick who walked up to one and tried to pet it. I still remember the pic of her jeans hanging off of one of its horns. I think many assumed this was a repeat of that. Yes, AI BS is probably going to be the doom of western civilization. There is so much fake garbage out there it takes work to sort the wheat from the chaff. I won't say more as it would skirt dangerously close to politics! 😁 Have a good one!

When my office was re-purposed a couple years after I retired it was mildly depressing! But thankfully, like you I had a different area for my modeling efforts I could hang out at. I realized later by giving up my office that I finally had fully accepted the retirement

Oh I have no reactance to give up the “office” aspect of the room. It actually is my upstairs modeling area and where posts to this forum and others are generated. It’s handy to be able to take photos right at the keyboard, and in winter it’s much warmer than the basement workshop. Those are the real issues! 😁

Good Morning All!
45F @ 58% high overcast - probably smoke.
Looks like we have fires almost all around us.
fires2026.jpg

Libby is just above those lower center; line dip then bump. Cabinet Mountain Wilderness is the fire line up, Troy the little dip to the immediate left, top of the fire line. SR56 is from Troy down, SR2 is Libby down, then East to Kalispell. The dark(er) line is BNSF; Libby to The Fish. Have been seeing CH-46 choppers fly over from South to North with BIG bladders of water. Suspect the Kootenai River is the filling station. Hmmm, wonder how many fish get fried in the process?

@TLOC What wonderful pictures to work from! AI is not perfect though - Aspen/Birch usually stay in the dips/valleys/canyons where the moisture is. Sure, some on top of hill/knolls/bumps but not that many. You have your work cut out for ya!

Damn dishwasher died day before yesterday - no pump water any mo. Heck, we do not even have a dish drying rack anymore so dishes on towels all over the place drying. First look is $170ish for a pump. Since this is the 2nd failure, pull it, trash it, get another. Place in Sandpoint looks to be the best prices; so lunch on Monday or Tuesday there. We checked out Freds Appliance site - what a POS. Shows price on the splash page, but when you click on the make/model you want - different price - and higher, and on top of that there always seems to be a disclaimer - "Prices starting at". Go Figure.

The Bison flier went through surgery without a hitch. Come to find out the Bison is not going to be ...um... punished - Nature at work as he is in Rut. That does seem a little early for Rut though; happens around here later in the season.

Keep cool!
