Actually it did. She never wants to go for lunch on a work day. But she wants pizza, and I said tonight I was cooking burgers. So she gets her pizza for lunch.
I think you have the perfect wife for you.

I know the feeling, I feel the same when my wife says, "I want hotdogs" Not to mention all the other countless ways my little Angel is absolutely perfect.

Did I mention I like burgers?

Good Morning All. I'm seeing clear and 79° morning, might hit 104° later on before cooling off to just 98° for the weekend. Barely hit 100° yesterday.

Yesterday's grocery trek was uneventful. Gas prices around town have come down again, now at $3.49/gal in most places. Still 50¢ higher than a month ago. Came home to the dishwasher and a load of laundry. Boring day overall.
Not sure of today's plan yet, as my wife decided to come home today instead of tomorrow. Maybe daughter is kicking her out! She's bringing the granddog with her for another visit.

No real change out in the train shed yesterday. I am really wanting to get some of the structure lighting wrapped up, but every time I get under the layout, I find other wiring that could use some tidying up. I am trying to get it done one town at a time right now. I have everything that I need, power supplies, wire, connectors, bulbs; but staying on the floor for too long is tiring. So several breaks at the workbench to paint figures is in order. Today though, I'll probably just run trains!

Bill - Pretty sparse breakfast this morning.
Alan - That Sierra West kit is really fantastic. But it is both out of my era and locale, so I am going to pass...otherwise?
Chad -
I think the dude is still touring occasionally. Not long ago I saw an ad on FB for upcoming tour tickets.

His polka dot guitars are distinctive.
He's on tour right now in the Northeast. He comes to Dallas on August 30 next month.
Troy - Are you planning on painting the Midnight Abbey structure?
Tom O - No lines for voting in my precinct. They have 4 voting booths to serve usually less than 400 people on any given election day. I once had to wait 2 minutes!

Everybody have a fantastic Friday.

Shopping wise, where we are at now, we have a Walmart super center about 3-4 minutes and a Costco across the street so 4-5 minutes. Another Costco about 10-15 minutes and another Walmart Superstore at 10 minutes. Also two Smith's (Kroger) within less than 10 minutes, a Harmon’s (large grocery store) across from one of the Smiths. Another Harmon’s about 15 minutes. A couple Target/Super Target. And the various Dollar stores. I’m sure I’ve left several out.

We have a dozen Costco within approximately an hour, including the largest in the world. A full business center and regular Costco combined. It started life as a regular Costco and then they added on another Costco sized Costco extension.

We don’t have Aldi here but have several Trader Joe’s. (Owned by the Aldi sister Aldi Nord. Actually now a sister to Aldi Nord, owned by the same holding company that owns Aldi Nord. Aldi in the U.S. is owned by Aldi Süd. The Aldi stores split back around the 50s or so into two chains, Nord and Süd when the brothers who ran it disagreed over selling cigarettes. Except in Germany, in most countries the Aldi stores are owned by one of the town. They’ve kind of divided the world territories. They do share warehousing and product purchasing etc from what I understand).

Actually there is a Winco about 10 minutes away and another two or three of them within 30 minutes.

So shopping-wise we have way more choice than one realizes at first.

Good morning, all! Well, judging from the F on the pill dispenser, it must be Friday. July 31, 147 days till Christmas. Not much to report on from the Hobo camp. Temp predicted to hit 101/102 today and tomorrow. That's actual temp, not heat index.
Should get to run some trains today. Some of the sidings will need cleaning.

STAY SAFE
LATER

Surprisingly, the rain has arrived. Moderately heavy at times with a few rumbles of thunder tossed in. No wind. This is a little taste of Autumn for me. Wonderful day. Dark, cloudy, rainy, and cool.
Same here, we have had a steady rain for about 2 hours now. One batch of heavier, but most has been a light gentle variety.

This is the blob that moved thru the area and looks like an hour break till round #2 rolls thru.

Don't you still have access to a Dollar General, or DG Market as they are now being called??? While not really good for overall grocery shopping, they have some stuff. I have always leaned toward them instead of Family Dollar for some items.
We do have a D G Market but it is one of their smaller buildings. And a loaf of bread like I buy is 80 cents cheaper there than at the United along with a few other items but some canned goods are higher. I like the Dollar Tree/Family Dollar store as it is quite a bit larger than the D G Market although I think this also was part of the reason they are closing, just not enough people to support two discount stores. The Dollar Tree carried a lot of things not available at D G. The two stores kind of complimented each other and as a matter of fact, I was talking to the mgr at the D G Market and he said he hated to see the Dollar Tree close as he shopped there for some items himself. Seymour doesn't have but about 2100 folks all total so to see any store close is a bit of a loss.

Wichita Falls has a Sams, Aldi, several Walmart stores, at least one Super Walmart and a Winco. There is a Large United called "Market Central" I think but after one trip there several years ago, I knew I did not need to go back. There is a Whole Foods type place but I have never been there. While there is a Sams, there is no Costco unless you go 185 miles east. I'm starting to look forward to a trip once or twice a month, a good reason to "get outa Dodge" and not having to wonder if I can purchase all the things on my grocery list. And gas is usually around 50 to 55 cents a gallon cheaper in WF so a fill-up is usually my last stop before heading home.

Everyone have a great Friday and a great weekend.

John

Hello all, 89 here, heading for 96 with an Index of 107 already! Supposed to cool of a little the next couple of days, that will be a nice break. On the subject of hotdogs, I actually like the roller cooked dogs at the local Circle K and really like their Italian Sausages. I guess I should say liked, as yesterday I went by to get one and not even the little sign saying Italian Sausage. When I asked they said Corporate had decided to drop them, in favor of a new jalapeno sausage. Rats...
Only two real grocery stores in town, Walmart and Cash-saver, so we're not doomed, but for a real selection it is at least a 45 minute drive in any of three directions. So nuts to a selection.
News is on right now, looks like one of our F35s crashed in California, near the Miramar Airbase. No information on the pilot, so prayers for his safety.
Marco, your cat is adorable, give him a belly rub here in Arkansas.
@troyphoto agreed on the voting, need to show ID.

Gee! Isn't calling them dogs a little out of place to begin with???

There are several stories of the origin of the name Hotdog.

I like this one: In the late 1800s, German immigrants brought frankfurters and dachshund sausages (long, thin sausages that reminded people of the dog, dachshunds.) to the U.S. long, thin sausages that reminded people of dachshund dogs. At baseball parks and fairs, vendors shouted things like “Get your dachshund sausages while they’re red hot!” Cartoonists picked up on the joke. In 1901, sports cartoonist Tad Dorgan drew a comic showing vendors selling “hot dachshund sausages” but couldn’t spell “dachshund,” so he wrote “hot dogs” instead. The name stuck and by the 1910s, “hotdog” was the common term for the sausage in a bun. The word 'Hotdog" came from a mix of German sausage tradition, American humor, and a cartoon spelling shortcut that turned into culinary history.

Many say the Vienna sausage came first. Long before the American hotdog existed,

Wieners (from Wien/Vienna)

Franks/Frankfurters (from Frankfurt)

German and Austrian immigrants brought these sausages to the U.S. in the 1800s. Americans came up with the name Hotdogs!

And Hotdogs has gone back over the ocean. At least in places like Scandinavia (but probably also Germany). I've seen signs for "hotdogs" there -- sold on bun on the street or a venue.

In my experience, the Wiener sausage you find in Germany and Austria is closer to the American "hot dog" than is the Frankfurter. Especially if you're look at the natural casing deli hot dogs. Wiener and Frankfurter are both takes on a similar sausage but that's my experience.

Afternoon All! 79 here in the Brew City, with rain falling. We need it! I've been watering the bejesus out of the roses to keep them blooming, as well as the Hibiscus. It'll be nice for Mother Nature to take over! Fish Fry today for lunch, and the eagle sh!t today. That means payday to all of you non-military types! 🤣 I tested out the 0-6-0 last night, and it performed well. It had no problem dragging a couple of Walthers sleepers out of the depot and over to the coach yard.

1278 at work

The light was a bit dark for the cell phone camera but you get the idea:

Yeah, he caters to the narrow gauge logging crowd, but small business with wooden buildings still exist here in Wisconsin, and Y'all have a few natural lakes and rivers, right? :) I'll probably build dioramas with mine, as I enjoy the build itself.

Well, today I managed to list a bunch of stuff on ebay, including my N Scale structures.

And already sold four of them!

But, not all is well in the land of Ebay.

I ordered some game models... in particular, this set:

But what showed up today in the box was this one:

i-7njQBh8-X2.jpg

Note that the box art is very different. The company that makes the models changes their starter sets out every 6-12 months. I got the newest version of the set, even though they showed the box art for the older version of the set. Their description was very generic and very short, not listing specific models included.

And on Fleabay, evidently you put in an item description and it pulls up the info from someone else's post. If you have to reorder stock and just look at the name of the product, and not the SKU you might not notice it's different.

I've reached out to the seller, asking for a return (which the seller allows) for refund.

Unfortunately, I already have more than enough of the models in the box I received. I don't need this box. I need the models in the other box they don't have.
