Good morning, Coffee Shop! It's Saturday, JULY the 4th and 77°(25°C) with a chance of rain.

WEATHER:
Partly cloudy then becoming mostly cloudy. Scattered thunderstorms toward daybreak. Numerous showers. Numerous thunderstorms. Humid with highs in the upper 80s. Southwest winds 5 to 10 mph becoming west late this afternoon. Chance of rain 70 percent.

Have a great day!;)

HAPPY 250th BIRTHDAY USA!

I saw that headline and clicked it despite being a fox affiliate link.
"Mass Casualty" means some lazy reporter or editor used the language from the incident report to get clicks.

Bah! Journalism undergrads should be able to write better headlines.

100+ treated for heat conditions while waiting for Big Boy

But that won't get as many clicks

Just to be clear "casualty" in this context doesn't mean "dead", it just means "needed medical attention". The heat got them and they were dropping like flies.
I work at Ren Faires in the summer. Any day that's 80 or above has way more people needing medical attention than you might guess. First aid stays busy all day long. Most just need water and shade, but some are in serious condition.
That is very correct, but I didn't write the headline. And to Troy's point, ABC, MSN, and many other news outlets used the exact same terminology.

It is what you are used to. None of the articles that I read mentioned the exact temperature, but I remember standing around waiting for Big Boy (two hours late) in 100° heat in Denton Texas in August of 2021. No "causalities" then. But the folks around here are used to higher temperatures that those in Pennsylvania.

I found this one far better.

I really expect better of my fellow journalists. When it comes to clickbaity on the local side, it's hit or miss on the local outlets. But I find the guidance from the upper affiliation about how to write headlines for impact to impact one brand more than the others.

EDIT: the ABC outlet was just as bad as the Fox one. Lazy reporters!

Same thing here last night. One shell exploded and I saw the flash before I heard the report. It sounded like a large mortar right on my property, but had to be at least a couple of blocks away. Fireworks are illegal in this state. The local authorities do not uphold the law and look the other way on the 3rd, 4th, and 5th of July every year.

Good morning on this 250th Anniversary of Independence. I didn't think Britain would give it up. We could have all have UK passports and be subjects.

81°F/75°F currently. The dewpoint has come down several degrees since Wednesday. A couple of degrees each day. Glad to see it below 80°F for a change.

I have firearms to clean today and hamburgers to grill and Bier to drink. Hope you all have a safe day today and watch those fingers.

Servus!

Good morning all!

A very wet orning to start the day. Thunderstorms have been moving thru the area since 4am this morning. Looks like we will get a clearing
later this morning before another round goes thru mid afternoon. Currently its a humid 72F and the high is expected to be around 84F.

Going to my parents later this morning for the annual family reunion, 4th celebration. Looks like we have quite a crowd again this year. We will
have people from Ohio, Florida, Colorado, Texas, Wisconsin, and quite a few from parts of Illinois. Should be a great time catching up with everyone.

Nothing much else going on at the moment.

Have a safe day everyone!

Good Morning All. Clear and 77° this morning. Happy Independence Day to all American members. No change in our weather forecast. Hot and dry until October.

Nothing special about yesterday here, usual tasks and chores; interspersed with pool breaks. Grilled fajitas for supper to get the weekend started right.
Today will start with the dishwasher one more time. It's the only time that I miss the kiddos at home! Probably have enough for a load of laundry today and I need to top off the pool this morning. Grilling again tonight, just haven't decided what it will be. There's sausage, steaks, brats, various chicken parts, hot dogs and pork chops in the freezer to choose from. Probably other stuff that I just can't recall at the moment.

Out in the train shed yesterday, I only ran trains. I have a loose sequencing schedule that I run by, which keeps things fluid in the three staging yards. I do treat the staging yards as switching yards without scenicking. That way I rarely handle any cars by hand. I do pick up and switch engines and cabooses to opposite ends on unit trains though. Yesterday's targets were switching 16 empty tankers into the Ethanol facility and hauling out the full ones. Later a local came by and exchanged the incoming grain cars so they could process more. It's not really a balanced operation but I can pretend. Technically one needs 3 full grain hoppers to produce a tanker full of Ethanol, so the grain hoppers get switched out more often. That same local also spotted/exchanged cars at the casket manufacturer, beverage distributor and mattress factory.
On the lower level, I switched out a small grain elevator (3 cars), the tannery (1 car), the John Deere dealership and the cannery. I also set up another local for the piggyback yard, an unnamed warehouse and a fuel distributor. Through all of this, I interrupted operations by running various unit trains by on the main line.
I expect to do more of the same today, and tomorrow, and the day after...etc.

Bob -
I've been leasing this server for about 8 years and yes, it's getting old
I remember that episode. Has it really been that long ago???
Thanks for continuing to host the best model RR forum on the net.
Troy - While I think that all model RR purchases are good, I find it ironic that Canadian equipment can be discounted with a USA250 code!

Interesting trivia about this date that has fascinated me since childhood. Both John Adams (2nd President) and Thomas Jefferson (3rd President), died on the exact same day in 1826; exactly 50 years after the adoption of the Declaration of Independence.

Everybody have a safe and Happy 4th. Be sure to keep some cold beer around the grills to stay hydrated.

Good morning from Pasadena. 7:46am DST! 62f now 84 later and the sky is perfectly clear. My sister’s Crew of 8 widows hosted a 4th of July party starting at 5:30pm yesterday because so many of the Condo are leaving for elsewhere this morning. Decently attended with about 60 stopping by for food outside along the Condo pool. A good time.

Slept the best so far last night since we left Wisconsin. I’m trying not to compare times out here versus whatever the time would be at home in Wisconsin.

We are supposed to head to Scottsdale on Tuesday and stay at my brother’s place there. He called yesterday asking us to come out to Maui instead. I don’t care and it’s Terry’s choice but my sister feels she can’t fly. So maybe today we’ll decide. 5.5 hour drive to Scottsdale or 5.5 hour flight to Maui all depending on if my sister feels she can handle it. Either way Terry and me, we are leaving Tuesday!

No real plans for today for us but we’ll find something to do

Enjoy your day
Tom
