Have a safe 4th, and make sure you keep all your fingers and toes.

Good afternoon, all! Yesterday a lighting/thunderbolt hit very, very close to the hobo camp. Took out A/C start capacitor, some security cameras and the internet modem. Grandson had a spare capacitor, cameras are a loss, and I just finished, (I think) linking everything back to the network.

HAPPY FOURTH OF JULY

Happy Independence Day y’all! Wings, burgers, dogs, corn on the cob and French fries for dinner. It was great and some leftovers for later in the week. Almost got rained out but the weather gods smiled at me and I was able to get the meat suitably burnt! The forum is quiet today which is to be expected. I don’t want to see any missing fingers tomorrow! Be safe!

Good morning. It's raining again. Wanted to fire up the grill yesterday, but the renovation crew didn't finish until late. I went to the commissary on Friday and found a pack of 1 inch thick ribeyes, so I had to get them. Sous vide for 1.5 hours and then just pan seared. Cut up some red bell peppers and onions and fried them up in the fond from the steaks, along with some of the juices from the sous vide bag. Although the marbling on the steaks weren't great, they ended up being super tender anyway. I guess size does matter...

In the 70's we used to buy fireworks strings of 30000 plus. Hang them up and light them off at midnight. Since everybody on the street did the same, the clean up on the next day was quite a bit.

One year, we bought a 30000 and 50000 set. They were hanging ready to go when someone threw an errant firecracker and it set both strings off early. Since we weren't prepared, my uncle grabbed my younger brother and covered his ears. Uncle's eardrums burst from that. I think that was the last time we did that.

Good God! My fire insurance couldn't possibly sustain that, particularly this year with a hundred year+ drought. (Snowpack just 22% of normal).

Storms rolled through here about 30 minutes ago. Nothing really too severe even though we were under a warning. First rain in 10 days. Temps are coming back down to July normal tomorrow at 89°F with lower humidity (so they say). Monday is grass mowing day.

Got the hamburgers done before storms hit and they turned out great washed down with a Bitburger.

Happy 4th to all of you.

Murphy seems to have visited me today. After I got home from work, I pulled out my US Army Whitcomb engine for a trip around the layout. That didn't happen, as the engine shut down and the distress signals sent by the decoder tells me it has a bad motor. And the only place I can get a replacement is Piko.
Thunderstorms have made appearances throughout the day. High was 91, currently 86 and thunderstorm.

The good news is, the thunderstorms have subsided for the evening.
The bad news is, the rebels to the West have opened up a mortar barrage on the Yankees to the East, with the rednecks on the South side opening fire on the rebels position, and are firing for effect.

Worked at the gunstore today, lots of traffic but not many sales. I helped out by putting a rather unusual S&W revolver on layaway, a Model 36 no dash Pinto! Those were factory guns with blued frames and barrels and a nickel cylinder. And with a 3" barrel is definitely uncommon.
Storms threatened and rumbled this afternoon but never arrived. Got up to only 92, tomorrow is supposed to be a little cooler.
Got home and then we had a Birthday crowd here for my G'niece Emma's 18th Birthday. We had 23 folks here! Our house is nice sized but we were definitely crowded. Chicken and beef for a taco bar, thankfully my wife always makes plenty of food.
Most have now left to go watch fireworks, and Uncle Kevin is relaxing.
God bless you guys and the USA.

Kudos on the size of your circle of family and friends.
