Happy 4th! (since probably won't be online tomorrow)

Ken

That's a great idea! Thanks!
They make a replacement board for Kato F units that allow you to plug in a NEXT-18 sound decoder. If you do that, and use a Loksound decoder, you can download the E unit sound file, which is two 567 engines. That will sound like two engines for the price of one sound decoder.
The engines are V12s instead of V16s, but 9 out of 10 people won't be able to tell the difference.

I probably can't/couldn't either!

My nephew finally showed up at 0940 instead of the 0730 he told me he was coming by. The heat in full sun by 1000 was nearly unbearable. I don't know what the temperature was by then. We finished at 1200 because my nephew had to be at work by 1400.

I had to stop once and sit in the truck with a bottle of water after walking back and forth from the targets to the shoot line many times. The second time I had to stop was when we policed the brass at the end of the shoot.

My entire tee-shirt was soaked above my pants line, and underwear was soaked completely through and soaked through patches was showing through my BDUs in the front. Probably the back too but no one said anything. Got home and had to roll the socks from my feet after removing my boots.

I don't think I've experienced that type of heat in over 40 years since Basic Training in San Antonio in July/August. It was very uncomfortable, bordering on dangerous. At least for me at my age with past cardiac problems.

On the positive side, all three .45ACP pistols ran like Swiss watches without any problems, and the Walther PDP was the star of the show. My nephew is buying one this weekend, and the other two guys are seriously considering one too. The Holosun was zero'ed right out of the box and no adjustment was needed. Fired 300 rounds between all of us through the PDP. I couldn't get enough of it. I had a big grin on my face after every magazine. The tall suppressor sights were spot on at 10, 15, and 20 yards. This PDP is a dream to shoot, and no pistol present could beat that trigger or the accuracy. We had a large selection of nearly 20 pistols, several ARs, and I finally fired a .50BMG.

This .50 BMG was a bolt action with a brake. Talk about blast concussion! I was behind and to the side about 20' back, and it was incredible. It was very tame to fire though. The rifle weighed about 30 pounds, and with the brake on it, it was very mild shooting. I've fired shotguns using slugs that had more felt recoil. But the blast wave with the brake was really something.

And that was enough heat to last me the rest of Summer to Oktoberfest. I may have to get that goat for the lawn.

Just to be clear "casualty" in this context doesn't mean "dead", it just means "needed medical attention". The heat got them and they were dropping like flies.
I work at Ren Faires in the summer. Any day that's 80 or above has way more people needing medical attention than you might guess. First aid stays busy all day long. Most just need water and shade, but some are in serious condition.
