Tomorrow my friend. It is 'Fish Friday'.
I had Egg Salad for dinner. My wife said we had eggs that would expire next week. "Waste not want not"

I always buy two dozen jumbo eggs, and we always end up eating Egg Salad. The good news is I love my wife's Egg Salad! A few slices of fresh yellow onion, with the Egg Salad on a Schimdt's 6/4/7 roll, eggcellent!

Never heard of that one or even seen one in all my travels unless I just never noticed.
They still around?
Gino's was revived in 2010 and there are still two of them here in Baltimore. But they are different from what they used to be. The new Gino's Burgers and Chicken has placed itself upscale of the earlier Gino's. The new restaurants serve its burgers to order from fresh beef. They also have chicken sandwiches, hand-cut french fries and hand-spun milkshakes. Currently the only locations are in Towson, MD and Glen Burnie, MD. Both suburbs of Baltimore.

I think Gino’s is or was an east coast thing. I never heard of them until we moved to Mass.
The original Gino's was mostly in Baltimore and later spread throughout the mid-atlantic region. They did expand to Massachusetts and Connecticut, but they didn't prove to be popular. The same was true when they tried to expand into the mid-west and other regions.

With the encouragement and partial financial support of Colts owner Caroll Rosenbloom, Gino Marchetti joined a fast-food restaurant business with Colts teammates Alan Ameche, Joe Campanella, and Louis Fisher. In 1959, Ameche-Gino Foods Inc. opened its first Gino's. The business grew, began to franchise, and would eventually become known as Gino's Hamburgers. It was a successful Mid-Atlantic regional fast-food chain and had 313 company-owned locations when they were sold in 1982 to Marriott International, which abandoned the name in favor of their Roy Rogers restaurants.

Gino Marchetti was one of the greatest defensive ends in the history of the NFL and a huge star in Baltimore. But his name didn't carry much recognition outside of Baltimore. He played 13 seasons for the Baltimore Colts.

The first Gino's was opened in Dundalk, Maryland, just outside Baltimore; it got its official name in 1959 when the owners Joe Campanella, Louis Fischer, and Alan Ameche invited Colts' captain Gino Marchetti to become a partner.

Wonder if Walthers will include the gum with theirs?
I doubt it. Topps removed the gum from their packages as baseball cards became valuable collectors' items. The gum was known to stain cards.
Remember the bad gum you would get with the packs that would make your jaw ache after a few minutes of chewing?
Yes, I do! I gave the gum to my sister Theresa. She enjoyed it, we were poor kids, something was better than nothing.

good morning.
so Walthers did release a new thing!?! Collectible Cards... I dont really know what to think about.
i think they did it because atm its a pretty big hype on cards, and card openings. but iam not really shure if railroads will also connect to this hype of sports card openings.

well who knows.
After thinking about it, it might not be a bad idea.

I am all but out of space for more trains. But 700-800 trading cards can fit into a three-ring binder with 9-pocket protective sleeves.

i mean iam thinking of ordering a box for 200$ just because, single packs shipping to switzerland does not make sense.
and it would be a huuuuge unboxing video. and maybe i get a Big Boy 4-8-8-4 Card one of a kind who knows. ahahaha.
you see? those cards are already working...

Good morning to all those that venture here. I am kind of surprised we have trading card fans for models, trains! But it’s why our hobby has everything. I thought trading cards was a bad idea but from the comments here Walther’s will be making money. Something for everybody! I will be watching but not participating, enjoy and have fun!

It’s 100% humidity as the dew point and temperature are the same 69f degrees. There is a slight breeze at 3mph but it feels cooling!

Haircut in 3 hours at 9

10:00 if the grandson is awake there is some scenery work on the slot car track he needs to work on. He’s learning scenery but needs to be done by 12. He has to eat lunch and then rides at 1 on his bike to the Park and Rec youth activities program. The grass doesn’t look like it needs a trim yet even though it’s lush green from the little rains we’ve had this week. Maybe Sunday, but I just oversee the grandson now. After 4 cuts he really has it down

With the high temperature today only supposed to be in the low 80’s maybe I can talk Terry into a quick trip to Hiawatha Hobbies this afternoon. Also maybe a mid afternoon dinner at St Pauls Fish Company in Milwaukee or Mequon. If she doesn’t want to go I will figure the cost of the drive versus USPS or I can call my 2 buddies as at least 1 will come along.

Hiawatha has 1 Sd70ace left and even though it’s a Walthers Mainline unit I want it to round out my freelance Wisconsin Interstate roster. It of course will need to be stripped, repainted and decals added. The plan was to send the final 3 units off in the 4th quarter (November) to my painter and see them back in 2026. But his wife is having surgery in November and he’s taking 3 months off as she will be having foot reconstruction surgery. Told me yesterday this is the other foot as she had the other done last November and she needed lots more help than he anticipated. This time he said he’ll have no distractions. This will give me 3 Walthers Mainline Sd70aces and while the details are not as overwhelming as the Rapido, Scaletrains and Genesis brands they are fine for mainline running. The mechanism is very good, they are strong smooth pullers, the Soundtraxx Tsunami will consist with my Tsunami2 decoders and with new Scale Sound Supply speakers will improve greatly the sound quality. For localized switching action the rest of the fleet is mainly Athearn Genesis Gp40-2ls and 2ws where you can actually see those additional details. Yeah I know it’s a tough life

Enjoy the day

Good Morning All. Clear and 73°, a bit cooler than the past few days. Officially, we saw 99.5° yesterday, so I guess that that counts as our first 100° day of the year. Still the same hot and dry forecast until mid-September.

Unusual night for me, as I slept 6.5 hours without a pee break. I intentionally do not look at a clock when I take one, but this morning I couldn't get back to sleep so I looked. Much to my surprise, it was later than I usually get up.

We did choose to postpone the weekly grocery trek until today. Turned out to be a good thing, because as soon as she got up, my wife told me that there was no hot water!. So I spent the morning with the tankless water heater instead. I misread the reading on the ammeter and was left scratching my head while I looked at every wire and connection. Then I tested again and found the faulty triac (heating element). I keep spares so once that was found, I was able to replace it quickly. I had already done a visual check and couldn't see anything wrong with it, it usually stands out. Still saw nothing wrong, but once replaced we had hot water again. That pretty much shot the whole morning. Did pool maintenance later, topping up the water, adding chlorine and vacuuming thoroughly with the vacuum on a stick. The roving vac is not doing as well this year due to the shifting ground under the pool bottom which has made the bottom very uneven.

Out in the train shed yesterday, it was another day of just running trains. I did reassemble the unit scrap train that I referred to earlier in the week and ran it back to the other staging yard. Looking at the project list for the next one to tackle. I might do a couple of small ones before doing another mid-sized one. There's still no shortage of things on the list.

Karl - Loved that photo.

Everyone have a great Friday.

good morning all!

Happy Friday to the working folks.

Currently its 75F under mostly cloudy skies. Another very humid day. Not quite as warm as the last couple of days but still would
be unpleasant to be out for any length of time doing any activity. The strong thunderstorms again all went to the North and South
of us and we got missed totally. Been the pattern of the summer.

Other than some laundry and house pick up, not much else going on around here.

No layout time yesterday, wasn't feeling it. Maybe today

Have a safe day everyone!

Morning all. 81°F/78°F here. Very wet outside this morning.

Not sure what made me do this in this heat, but I cut the grass yesterday. Well, most of it that was growing. I cut the front that could have waited a couple more days, but it looks good again. And I cut part of the back where the faster growing fescue grows. Most of the shaded areas with different types of grass didn't need cutting so I left it. Difficult to tell where I stopped where these areas overlap in the yard.

That fescue grass seems to get on very well in this heat and grows like a weed. Thick and broad-leafed, it holds the dew longer, but if left for too long it's like cutting through jungle undergrowth. So the backyard is passable now for hopefully another week when it is supposed to cool off by Wednesday.

Running trains later today.
