Good morning y'all. Happy Saturday! 79° at 0854, as the sun burns through the morning fog. A typical Jersey Shore July morning.
Threat of T-Storms after lunch...also very typical.

Louis brought us up to date with the Orioles overtime win. The Mets beat SD , also in overtime. Phillies came from behind to beat Miami, and (fanfare), the Cubbies shut out the Yankees! DEVILS open on October 12 (Columbus Day), at the Rock vs Detroit. Only 95 more days to wait. MSG is supposed to launch a regional streaming service, not tethered to their cable operation, that will allow viewing of all Devils, Islanders, Sabres and Rags games, not on National TV. Something to look into.

What was your impression on X995 (Rc4) when you got on it?
It was small, light and had quick acceleration. Compared to a GG1,(16 car passenger trains), E-60 (16 car passenger trains), it lacked the power to handle big trains / single unit. The meatball's ride was superior to the E60, In general I liked it.

We have a few annuals to plant, then I have some time allocated to the train room.

Good Morning All. Mostly cloudy and a warm muggy 80°. There's rain on the radar less than two miles away, doesn't look too heavy. Correction, I just stepped outside and a few stray drops hit me.

Not a good day yesterday. My sciatica flared up making activity less than pleasant. I did pick tomatoes for about 45 minutes and trim up some more firewood, but not nearly as much as I had hoped. It seems a bit better this morning.

Out in the train shed, I continued modeling the hobo camp scene. I took some pictures, but should have used the tripod, as these are a bit blurred.

I'll take more today that will hopefully be better.

Mac - Yep! Mac works for me. My wife is actually pretty good with money. She's done our finances for 50 years, and also worked for H&R Block for 22 years. She just doesn't have a tolerance for fixing stuff, especially appliances. She gets tired of the older ones.

Today is International Skinny Dip Day for the adventurous folks out there. It's quite common in my pool.
Everyone have a great day.
Consider yourself lucky then for having a rare woman.

Got a delivery of some bulkhead flat cars today from Scale Trains. Very nice detail, looks like I'll have to order some more pipe loads.

Not a completely original wheel arrangement, as the Fairbanks-Morse C liners built for passenger service also had the same set up, but on more of an AAR style set of trucks. LIRR, NYC and others had these.

Karl, any idea there the Long Island photo was taken. It certainly looks like part of the Morris Park complex in Richmond Hill.
I think the photo is in the area in the green box. The photo is how it is today. It is a lot different from when I grew up.

Curt - The liquid chlorine here went from $16 for four gallons to $25 this year.
Tom O - Interesting how late in the season it took for your pool to come up to usable temperature. Mine usually hits 78° around May 25 or so. Currently at 88°, which is down a bit from two weeks ago.

Willie, the pool and the lap pool are new and were both filled June 21st for the 1st time. On Monday the inspector approved them. I have been circulating the water through the pool systems solar panels to get the water temperatures up from the initial 58f degrees. Because of the smoke haze we had for a couple weeks we didn’t see the sun. Both the lap pool and the swimming pool are connected to the solar panels but are separate units and have independent filtration systems. The solar panels also have 3 filters. After the granddaughter leaves on Monday I will need to clean out the filters on the solar system and have the designer of the system come over. We used 3 tanker trucks of water purchased at a local cheese factory. Either the main filtration system isn’t very efficient or the water was really bad. I am pretty sure it’s the systems. Twice last week and thankfully before the inspection the system tripped breakers. It happened again yesterday. I cleaned the filters and reset and things were fine. But, they are supposed to be automatic self cleaning filters. It’s a salt water system, using a 1000# of water softener salt filtering tank. I had to replace in the past joint pool and lap pool, 40-50#’s a month. This lap pool is 1/2 what I had previously, so the monthly replacement should be less. But because these are separate pools we will find out what the monthly replacement rates will be. The pool because the solar panels should be useable into mid October instead of mid-September if we were lucky. The lap pool once it is enclosed is year round of course. But I like to swim in 70+ degree waters, that’s why the solar panels circulating water where installed. The heaters used in previous pools really were energy users as they seemed to run constantly.

This can only be Morris Park, the rails in the foreground are Atlantic Ave. Line. I used to live in Nassau County and after exploring Jamajca station surroundings and catching some of the last streamlined cabs on LIRR i expanded my horizons to Sunnyside Yard.

Were the ball fields there when you were a kid?
Yes. At that time the park was called Smokey Park, some called it Smokey Hollow Park. When we moved there, steam locomotives were still in use. The smoke from the locos would drift over the park, hence the name. When we played on those fields you would get soot covered shoes and socks. Today it's named Phil Rizzuto Park. The "Scooter" played for the Yankees and attended Richmond Hill High School.

I would have loved to play there! The lady who raised me, maybe not so much. I used to love to slide/dive headfirst. I would have been covered from head to toe with soot.

I bet you have some great memories playing on those fields.

The scooter! A tough, scrappy shortstop. I didn't get to see him play. The man who raised me told me about him. A great defender and better than average hitter who was at his best under pressure. His bunting skills were unparalleled. He even won the American League MVP in 1950. Not too shabby for a "small ball" player!
As this picture shows he was outstanding at turning the double play.

Afternoon All,

Started out a walk at 78F, humid and no breath of a breeze. After breakfast I did a couple of chores then basically have vegged watching movies all day on NetFlix, so it's been a very lazy day.

Jeff- It looks like S.S. Winston wanted to cool off, smart dog.

Troy- That looks awesome, but I couldn't eat that.

Joe- I'm glad your wife's stress test went well. The peach pie sounds good. Interesting photo.

Louis- Neat photo.

Mac- Beautiful live steamer.

Willie- Nice scene. You're seeing more of a price increase than me for chlorine.

Tom- Beautiful car and load. Did you make the load?

I hope everyone has a good night.

Did you know that Phil, who played for the Yankees, and Pee Wee Reese, who played for the Brooklyn Dodgers actually played together. Seems that during WW-II they both were on a team making the rounds to help the morale of our Armed Forces.

My personal favorite was Duke Snider.

Good Morning as we start the second half of the year 2023! Still kinda warm out there at 84°. Just dropped by to see the new place, I'll be back later.

96* here in Covington, Ga, on Sunday the 8th of July. Had a heck of a drenching Thunder Storm yesterday afternoon & supposed to be the same today. We need the rain. Guys that did the landscaping laid down 2 pallets of sod & we've been running up the water bill trying to turn it green, Finally rained so we could turn off the hose. The older we get the hotter it gets,

Holy Cow! The Scooter...I did see him play on TV, too young to appreciate what I was watching. We used to get to see the Yankees play the Philadelphia A's. I still think the wrong team left Philadelphia. I grew to dislike the National League. With the current inter league play, Leagues only matter in the Playoffs.
