Good luck,
Thank you. Sadly what I expected already happened. My wife started trying to make plans with the "mother" for the visit when the "mother" decided it was going to be a paid visit, as in we better bring cash to make the visit happen. We're not going to do that so the visit is off now. Not that down about it because I already expected she'd pull something to keep us from coming. Hard to believe this person works for family services yet has no ability to see the harm she's doing.

Good evening all,

82° and humid, cloudy, not much of a breeze. We started out at 60 this morning, which is quite a bit warmer than usual,

Guy - speaking of tires, I had one repaired last week, the Slims Service in Hinckley charged me 38 dollars for a nail, slow leak. Seems high.

I had a busy day, made this organizer for the train room:

Carrdboard trays from cereal boxes to put stuff in

Wife wanted to get a pic of me in our side yard, daisies, black eyed susan, milkweed, etc.

Then got one pic of the tender I just fixed (repaired) after it fell

Thanks for the kind words about the model outhouses.
I started to build a brick outhouse, but realized a brick structure would be hard to move when the hole filled up.

While searching for some plastic sheets, I ran across this attached wreckage of a WESTERN AUTO sign.

After a few sticks, some glue and paint, I wound up with a repaired useable sign.

Good Evening: 72° and cloudy. There is a chance of showers this evening and again tomorrow. The evening was pleasant, and the wife and I actually got to relax on the patio for about 45" before dinner.

My son and family are coming, beginning next Thursday, so we will go into our usual mode of "super cleaning" the house, so that the grand kids can leave it in a shambles.

No work on the model railroad, again today, as yard work took precedence. Maybe later in the week.

Orioles won in overtime, (11 innings), over Tampa Bay. 6-4, Nationals Lost, Phillies won, Mets and Cubs, doubleheader, Mets won 1st 2-1, tied 2-2 in the 8th in the second.

Dave B: That's a cool organizer you built for the train room. Nice layout pictures. That meadow has me sneezing just looking at you standing there. Last flat I had fixed cost around $37.50 +tax.

Todd: That's some interesting stuff...nice photos. Graceland isn't worth those prices.

Curt: Tichey has PRR W and R signs? cool. Have to check that out. Funny, neither of the four PRR Branches that make up my modeling interest, had Whistle Boards for the crossings. The crossings themselves, were protected by cross bucks or oval cast Iron railroad Crossing signs. All crossings on PRR tracks except one were flag over.

Mikey: Nice recovery on the sign.

JeffH: Nice waterfront building.

Good morning Everybody!

I slept like a baby again last night.

No work for us this morning. My wife has a cancer screening this morning.

My old beagle Tucker and I are relaxing on the couch. I'm watching Star Trek Discovery streaming on Paramount. Tucker is next to me sleeping.

Have a great day Everybody!

We found out I have some additions to our family.

New son-in-law as of 5/25 and another grandson arriving in January!

My youngest daughter got married in the Harford co., Maryland court house on May 25th. She was hesitant to tell me for fear of how I would react. Im not "psycho big Lou" any more, he has been MIA since I was 22. Except for a few rare unconfirmed sightings. My kids never knew him.
I don't have to live with the guy. If she is happy, I'm happy. If she loves him, I will too.
I know he can't hurt her physically, she knocked him flat on his back once before. I have no doubt she can do it again. She learned from daddy, go for the nose and try to punch through the head. 😁
I only wish my girls would carry a roll of dimes as I recommend. I keep a roll of quarters in my cars, but my girls have little hands.

Now all three of our are children are married and financially set, thank God!

This old street rat must have done something right! Only by the Grace and forgiveness of God. That was why I loved the name of my first daughter, Grace. I needed the Grace of God in my life.
Louis- t&p and best wishes for the Mrs. on her screening. Congrats on the new SIL & another GS to spoil.
I would say you are showing your age, but I still have my timing light and dwell meters needed when tune ups were done on cars with points and condensers. I've got experienced line techs working with me who are younger than some of my tools!

Its a whole different world out there from the good old days of oil changes every 2-3000 miles and spark plugs and filters every 10,000 miles. Modern ICE cars go 100,000 on plugs, 7-10k on oil changes and 45K on filters. Thank goodness for that. Most cars take 1-2 hours to just replace plugs at 150-200 bucks an hour. I would (as a consumer) rather do that every 100K than every 10K.

When electric cars get serviced its mainly just for cabin air filters, tire rotations, brakes and wiper blades, oh and the occasional trim or accessory issue. I hope I am retired by then.
Karl- I can remember keeping a pack of matches & a pack of chewing gum in the glove box(to adjust the points & in case I had a blown fuse).

Good morning Everybody!

Another day off for my wife and I.

Spending my morning researching a new phone. I like to have a backup and a backup for my backup. Looking at the Samsung S22.

From my experience, you need a big hand for a roll of quarters. Dimes are pretty much one size fits all. Never used or heard of anyone using nickels. Thank God I have not had to use anything in many years. The things you wish you never had to learn.
This morning my little beagle Sophie is sitting with me.

This Amazon tablet does not take the best pictures. Or it could be an "operator problem". Auto correct is a PIA as well. Made worse by the operator I'm sure.

Have a great day Everybody!

Then someone invented the Extended Warranty for your Car, and now we're all in hiding 👹

Add in the Nigerian Prince who wants to give us money:eek:

And all of those callers who need us to log into our computers and turn on the internet so they can check to see if the Car Warranty is still active on our end... 😈

I'll stick with my iPhone's "Silence unknown callers" and keep my bank account

Somehow, when I have to stop what I'm doing, climb down off a ladder, get up from under the truck, pull off to the side of the road, balance a load on my knee or interrupt the paramedics to answer the phone, a telemarketer thinks I'll be interested in buying their cheap junk or giving money to their fraudulent cause.

Good Morning All. Clear and it only got down to 80° overnight. Since the weather geeks have been wrong on the high temperature for the last three days, just 98° yesterday, they're doubling down with 106° for today, 107° tomorrow and 109° for Tuesday. I am not too sure that they have a real clue; let's hope they're still wrong on the low side.
Days are getting shorter and as a result, the pool temperature has dropped by 1°.

OK, Good news of sorts. Two of our granddogs are here for the next 8 days while daughter #1 and family go on vacation. Less than favorable; due to a work situation yesterday, she was unable to bring them up to us and we had to spend 2.5 hours retrieving them. Back to good, their rescue dog who hasn't been here before made it through the afternoon and night without incident.
Made another five quarts of spaghetti sauce yesterday. I get to skip today while I wait for a sufficient quantity of tomatoes to fully ripen before another processing day tomorrow. I'll do plain sauce tomorrow as it is a whole lot easier.

Today's project is to assemble and install a cantilevered adjustable 10' umbrella over part of one side of the pool, in an effort to reduce the direct sunlight and thus the warmth of the water. We really miss that tree that used to shade it and the west side of the house.

Thanks once again to everyone who liked or commented on yesterday's pictures/post; Rick, Karl, Hughie, Gary, OB Ken, Joe, Louis, Curt, Patrick, James, Smudge, Guy, Dave B, Chad, Tom O, Mikey, Tom.

Due to the unexpected side trip for the doggies yesterday, I was not able to visit the train shed. Somewhat disappointing.
I was in the midst of cleaning structures in the big city of Ft Wish. Here's one that I did Friday.
12-04-19 002.JPG

This is a DPM structure called Carr's Auto Parts that has been repurposed into a downtown candy store.
To the left is a structure from Smalltown appropriately called Buck's Book Shop.
11-22-19 001.JPG

I have added a table of books out front.
11-22-19 003.JPG

It is scratchbuilt as are all of the books.

Karl - I know that Tesla's aren't what you work on, but how does one put a new battery into the Y model where the battery is part of the frame?
OB Ken - In Texas, grandparents have to file a petition with a judge for visitation rights. Kinda sucks.
Jeff - The waterfront kit is coming together nicely.
Joe - It does always seem to be counterproductive to clean the house before grandkids arrive. Enjoy them anyway.
Ken (D&J) - That's one reason that I never carry the phone unless I'm driving...and then I don't answer it anyway! My cell phone is strictly for outgoing calls. I remember meetings at work where everyone was supposed to silence their phones, certain self-important folks would prop their phones up and stare intensely at them for the duration.

Everyone have a great Sunday. Go to the church of your choice.

Good Morning!
It's gonna be a nice day, even if the the forecasters are calling for rain. Looking out the window, it just looks like it's gonna be a nice day. So, I think the weather people are wrong; again!

Spending my morning researching a new phone. I like to have a backup and a backup for my backup. Looking at the Samsung S22.
Wow! And here I am trying to work up the courage to throw my phone in the swamp!
As it is, unless I see a name on the display, I just don't answer. My phone is mostly running on silent mode.

Guy - speaking of tires, I had one repaired last week, the Slims Service in Hinckley charged me 38 dollars for a nail, slow leak. Seems high.
DaveB - That does seem high. As a younger fella, I was a tire man. Seem to remember it cost a couple of bucks for a repair, back then.
Today, the repairs are usually free, if you buy the tires from that particular company. - My wife pays good money for Black-eyed Susans in the garden. Then again, when I first got her here, she was planting Dandelions thinking they were a beautiful flower.

I believe I'll sit outside for a time today, and try to get better photos of the Hummingbird that's been visiting the wife's garden.
I'm having a hard time identifying what type of hummingbird it is. My bird book is not helping. It's the squareish tail with white tips that's throwing me.
Here's a photo from yesterday:
Hummingbird_07-16-2022.JPG

Today, I'm going to change position and try to get a better photo. I'll enjoy a coffee while I'm sitting out there in the garden.

My Fujifilm camera is far and away better for bird photography than the Canon. The Canon eats batteries. I can go 4hrs on 4 AA's with the Fuji on constantly. I've become a Fujifilm fan for all my photography work. - I despise the rechargeable lithium packs.

Here's the final set of Jasper day trip photos that I'm sharing with yu'all.
The first couple are of an SD75I that was just getting fired up to go to work while I was there.
You can see the plume of diesel smoke emitting out as the train guy turned the key:

Then it headed out to do what it does best:
CN 5700_SD75I_Jasper_07-11-2022 (2).JPG

Plus, here are a couple more railcars that I found interesting.
I always thought GTW was no more, and I was surprised to see a BNSF unit this far north of home:

JeffH - A very nice job on the waterfront building.
Terry - I used to have a wall phone like that, except it was black and had a round finger wheel on it to dial.
Karl - Thankyou for the update concerning modern day auto care!

Gotta go! The dog says it's time! Have a good one!

Good morning all

We have 68° headed for 88. A mixture of sun and clouds right now, not much for wind.

Flo - Just coffee today, please.

Willie - that bookstore display is amazing!

Jeff - waterfront structure looks great

Joe - Thanks - last time I had a tire done it was $25. That may have been a long time ago. I guess I was unwilling to do it for $38 myself

Guy - another nice group of pics.

Patrick - enjoy the cooler weather

By the way, anyone know where I can get an extended warranty for my car? 😁

Snapped these a couple minutes ago, this black squirrel under the feeder, then posing for the camera

He decided to look around a little:

IMG_2369 resize.JPG

We don't see this one very often. We have a couple grays that frequent the bird feeding station more often.

Wife has us scheduled to see a play this afternoon. She likes to get out of the house and I like to stay home, however some compromise is unavoidable.

Good morning fro the south deck innSo. Central Wisconsin. 69f degrees now heading to a art and craft show where at noon it should be about 85. Yes, Terry the antsy one is back. Has to have something to do every day. But, I will not complain about the art fair as after my wake up sequence this morning I’d do anything she wants today.

My unplanned and no clue day yesterday sure changed. The son flew me to the infamous Kenosha, Wi. We got a ride from the airport to the harbor by one of his cousins from Terry’s side. I got on a boat owned by Terry’s best and longest friend who also was her maid of honor in our wedding. We boated from Kenosha up to Racine on Lake Michigan and I drove her and her car from Racine back to our place. The son flew home and the cousin was still with him when I got home yesterday. She will hang out and he will drop her back in Kenosha when he decides to head back to Texas. She like much of American management, can work from anywhere. She is a big wig manager and former nurse at 36 years old in one of Wisconsin’s largest healthcare systems. She also is high grade candy and single.

Today is an art fair in Mt. Horeb, about 10 miles south and west of us. It was a great one prior to all the Covid shut downs in 2020. I have noticed at any art exhibit or fair or craft show this season the exhibitors have raised the prices significantly. They seem to be trying to make all the money they missed out on from the last 2 years. I am a sucker of welded steel yard art.

I have some ideas for the paint bench that I might try today.

Willie, great idea for shading the pool. Too bad we aren’t neighbors I have 2 almost brand new ones here not being used. The daughter’s pool uses 3 of those triangular sail clothes as shade devices.

phones, I use the silence unknown numbers on my Apple phone plus I have seperate ring tones for family from the rest of any other number from my contact list. The log from the silenced numbers before I clear it I block the numbers. Other then my wife the rest of my family uses text messaging instead of making the call. I do not have voice mail enabled

enjoy the day

Probably the worst is when they get to the register and stack all the stuff on the counter then wait for the cashier to tell them the total. Then they get coupons out, wait for a new total then start to write the check -or- futz around in wallet looking for debit card. I have even seen some tell the cashier after the total that this item, another or these need to be on a separate receipt as those are for the neighbor. And they let these people drive on the roads.
And that is why I use the self-checkout every chance I have!
