I did look at some DCC units there but for some reason you have to add it to the cart before you can see the price. Why is that? I did not buy the unit for the golf course owner there for that reason
Most manufacturers have what they call MAP pricing. “Minimum advertised pricing”. The lowest they can publicly advertise.

The law doesn’t let the manufacturer set prices so shops are allowed to make whatever deal they want with you as long as they don’t advertise a price lower than MAP. Your cart is a private conversation / negotiation. It’s one way “around” the MAP pricing limitations.

It’s not just model railroads. When I was actively running my “online gun parts and reloading shop” I had to abide by MAP in public. But could sell at whatever price we privately negotiated.

$200 for the Power Cab. 3 years ago I paid $120 for mine from Tony’s Trains with free shipping. I just looked, the best pricing I could find online was $185 from Lombard Hobby plus shipping. Prices are climbing for sure.
I just bought one of these, about an hour ago, brand new for $185.00 on HO buy/sell forum......with factory warrantee.

Well, howdy there internet Peeps and those with big but tiny engines

It's Troy again

Spent yesterday trying to get some toy soldier projects finished and off the hobby table. I made progress, but only one "regiment" of slimers is ready to put on the display shelf until the next game.

Seems these "Slime-garri" Abyssals have been up to some graffiti in the ruined basilica, calling out their angelic counterparts (the Elohi).

You might remember that I have a phobia of snakes. I was very close to throwing these models in the bin until I settled on the GhostBusters gone Bad theme for the force. A replacement of the head and belly turned these guys from serpent into long tailed ghostly slimers! I did have to do some blending with green-stuff putty to get the 3d printed (PLA) to accept the arms, and not overhang the armor. Slimer was always a bit pudgy in that regard.

Wife and I went to pizza yesterday. But on Friday, we hit the mom-n-pop Mexican we like. They've got a Ramen dish full of Mexican spices and some meat.

My friends in California are telling me there is no such thing as Mexican Ramen. I just shrug and point out we got it at the local Mexican restaurant, it's full of cilantro and chili spices. They can "fusion" their menu any way the want. ;)

Not sure what today will bring? Well take it as it comes.
I looked up one recipe on the interweb and it had 32 ingredients for this dish. One item was 9 lb. shank ham.
But man, that looks GOOD.

About 20 years ago, I had friend from south of the border that made a tomato based soup with vermicelli. It looked rather simple but the flavor was over the top. Unfortunately, about 18 years ago, he was stabbed to death in a home robbery. He was a good hearted dude.

Good morning. Sensor showing 1C and the hurricane force winds have finally subsided. Something bright shining in the sky right now. Hopefully it lasts long enough to warm up the house.

Not sure what the plan is today, but definitely need to do my 25% water change for my pond and take care of George, who has some white spots growing on him. He's a black moor goldfish that I've had for about 4 years. This was when I first got him. He's been outside for a few years now. He enjoys a salt bath once in a while that rids him of any parasites and refreshes his slime coat. Then he'll get some malachite green on the white stuff.

I'm in church yesterday and my neighbor Kevin and his wife sit in the pew in front of me. Here comes the collection basket and I tell a friend of mine sitting next to me. I only have 20's so I'm going to skip the 2nd collection. My neighbor hears this, and hands me a 5-dollar bill and I put it in the collection basket. It's good to have rich neighbors. Swal

Good morning all!

A cold start to our week here. Currently 27F which is not cold at all this time of year, but factor in the wind and it feels like 2F. High is
supposed to get to around 40F with sunshine.

Usual things going on around the house today. Nothing new there.

Basketball game is at home tonight so no travel involved.

Have a safe day everyone!

Morning all,

Mostly uneventful weekend. Wichita recorded .2" of snow on Friday evening at the airport, 30 miles east there was no accumulation. Mostly it was cold over the weekend, but sunny. Supposed to be 61° later today.

Managed some cleanup on the train table and got some more track ballasted. I then proceeded to organize my work area. Most time I've had to do anything in the train room in a while.

I replaced the 2 door mirrors on my son's 2004 (Built in 2003) on Friday before the snow came in. One nut of the 3 that hold it in place is hard to get to. The instructions say to watch you don't drop it in the door panel. Driver's side went without a hitch. Dropped it into the panel on the passenger door. I went to the local hardware and bought 2 replacement nuts (figured I drop another). I took some painters tape and "sealed" the door panel so I wouldn't drop another in the door panel. I proceeded to drop the first one and it rolled under the car where I couldn't reach it. That's why you buy 2. Nut is still under the car.

Good Morning All!
34F @ 90% no new white; most of old white is gone.

How about those Montana Cats! Ya, late on this one but forgot to mention earlier. Dau is in Missoula and a Griz fan. She still liked the Cats taking it all though.

GB and Chi - almost turned it off @ halftime as the Bears did not come to the game. As @TLOC stated: I am not so sure that it was all of the coaches fault. In the 2nd half, GP players were not even close to where they were supposed to be for those quick passes. Some turned the wrong way, others sorta dilly-dallied to get there. Not even gonna talk about dropped balls when they hit them in the middle of the chest. Could not put a finger on the offensive line as they were doing what they were supposed to do: open seams - for the most part. Oh, and I did not particularly care who won/lost - just wanted a good game. Bears did the greatest comeback in the 2nd half - GB did not show up for that.

Gonna have to go to the local watering hole for the Sea/SF game I guess. Hoping it would be on Prime and I could watch from my recliner. Bears and Raiders probably will be good also.

Good evening, it's partly cloudy and 82.
Most of you are aware of the traffic issues I've complained about, and it hasn't exactly gotten better, though I have found another workaround. Instead of staying on the main highway for 45 minutes, sitting in traffic, I cut through a new housing development and drive to the next traffic light down the highway in a different direction, then double back for 3 miles. It is 6 miles longer, 3 miles each way, but saves me nearly 30 minutes sitting in traffic. From a time and wear-and-tear perspective, I think it's better to drive an extra six miles rather than sit in traffic.

I do a similar thing, I drive 4 extra miles to and from work, to save 12 minutes.

Good Morning All. Foggy and 37°, mid-60's again today. Pretty much the same outlook for the next 10 days except colder on Saturday.

Boring day here yesterday, usual household chores like dishwasher, laundry and firewood. I did get outside and stack some more that I had cut last week. Nothing on the agenda today.

Out in the train shed yesterday, I finished re-gluing the roof on the farmhouse. I also disassembled the porch and re-roofed it since there was a buckle that wouldn't go away. I was fortunate to find the remnants of the original build so the paint match was easy! Black spray paint today just doesn't match that done 15 years ago.
This is an interesting kit with a screened in back porch.

It also had screens for some windows, but only enough frames/screen material for 3 of them and the front door. This shows 2 of them, the front view picture was blurred. The smaller window is a non-operating one, hence no screen.

I still intend to do a bit of touch-up painting on this building while it is off the layout. My standards have changed over the ensuing years since I first built it.
Other than this structure, I only ran a few more trains. I'll resume other stuff later today.

David - Glad that you could check in. Enjoy the rest of your trip.
Swal - I see the golfers now. It's just that the town looks totally empty!
Two collections at church? We get away with just one at ours.
Tom O - My wife switched off the GB/Chicago game Saturday and then regretted it after seeing of the outcome. She doesn't care who wins, she just likes an exciting game.
Patrick - Nice to read that you are able to get back to the layout.

I don't recall ever listening to him, but Howard Stern is 72 today.

Everyone have a great Monday. Sorry if you still have to work. It will make retirement more appreciated when you get there.
