Just a reminder about breaking news and speculation:

I did not know this. My big screen TV is old so I'm not sure I could use Firefox to view YouTube. I use Roku on it right now. I would have to load it on maybe my laptop and then see what happens.

I pay for the premium version of YouTube as well. I usually have a "live" video of some jazz instrumental video on with some AI generated image animated in the background. Something without words so it doesn't distract my attention.

Here's the latest one:

ads would definitely be unwelcome in my "background music"

Yes. Yesterday we heard news of a fire at Manchester City F.C. soccer stadium was on fire. A picture was shown of a very large building on fire. Was it at the soccer stadium? No it wasn't. It was another building on fire a long time ago. The fire at the stadium was a burger van. It was soon extinguished. Do not always believe what you see or hear.

Haven't read or heard yet, but why would a helicopter be in the approach path to an international airport? And didn't an air traffic controller see this unfolding?
From the Baltimore Sun

WASHINGTON — Almost nine months before Wednesday night’s midair collision at Ronald Reagan National Airport, Maryland’s two U.S. senators warned about the safety implications of overcrowding the air space around the airport.

U.S. Sen. Chris Van Hollen and then-U.S. Sen. Ben Cardin joined their counterparts from Virginia to be the only four holdouts in the 100-member Senate to vote against a Federal Aviation Administration reauthorization bill.

Their concerns stemmed from a provision that added 10 new flights to DCA, one of the busiest airports in the country.

I looked up the price of a #6 switch because I still wanted to add an engine service yard somewhere on the layout. I already have an #8 switch so after the $50.00 price tag I'm just going to use the #8. I was looking for a sharper turn to the yard, but I just move back the switch placement. You can see in the photo where the new yard of 2 or 3 tracks will be going plus the double crossover placement.

Good morning, it's 48 and clear.
Have the talking heads decided if the helicopter or jet were at fault yet?
Based on info the consensus of the non conspirators is the heli is at fault. It was told to pass behind the CRJ. There is speculation the heli pilot had his eye on a different plane. We won't know for sure until the prelim and ten final reports are released. Prelim should be relatively soon (weeks??) and teh final much longer (year or more?)

Nothing is really known until transcripts from the ground controllers, the helicopter and plane. Also the flight paths they were on etc. etc..
The ATC conversations and flight paths and all that are all over. The data is publicly available and websites like flightaware and similar have real time tracking of flights. The ATC transmissions are public as well so they've been playing those too. This is where all the pundits and conspirators etc get their data from to talk about it. The prelim report will be out in weeks? a nd the finmal in yeaers? for official reports. You may? get statementss from official channels but they're most likely not going to be that substantive until teh prelim report is released. That's my noninformed take on it after watching a ton of Mentour Pilot and other channels that report on air accidents.

Good evening all. A rather busy day today. A pot of tea and a piece of apple pie and custard please Flo.

Dawn wanted me to take her on a drive into the countryside. All was well until Dawn received a telephone call from our daughter in law, Could we pick up our grandchildren up from school. We just made it in time.

Back home, a coffee was required.

Dawn wanted an Asian style meal for dinner. I had some Indonesian ingredients in store. A stir-fry was rustled up.

Needless to say I did not make the train room. Maybe tomorrow. I say maybe; our daughter & SiL are returning from Canada. If they are late I have to collect granddaughter from school and with grandson wait for the travellers to return.

This afternoon was the visit to guess where:

Peepers checked out fine. He reminded me I hadn't gotten new lenses in 2 years. With my astigmatism changing every year, I need to stay on top of it.

And, with the PVD (posterior detachment of sparkles-inducing something in the eye), he pronounced the eyes as "stable" in that regard.

Since I can barely focus on anything close, I'm about to hit the recliner for a nap and let these drops wear off.

Definitely keeping the trains in N scale.

You should post that photo in our "the show your face" thread. :D

OMG I thought you were farting fairy dust! ;) :D 😂🤣

I might use that line in an upcoming book...

Nah... this thread will get locked and move into obscurity.

Good evening from the thawing Tundra of Wisconsin. The temperature hit 58f degrees today.

The Railroad Line forums will shutdown tomorrow and I have deleted my shortcuts to it. I started there a month after I retired so October 2014. It was the second forum I joined. Model Railroader forums at Kalmbach in 2007 was the first and in those 7 years between I maybe went there a couple times a year. Virtually met up with some really nice guys at RR-L and in person with a few. So adios to another forum. There was talk of saving it and maybe still is but like the new Modelrailroader forums I will not be signing back up.

Be well and enjoy the evening

Welp, I can almost see straight again. So I'm having a glass of whiskey!

Why?

because...

I'm thrilled at that number. But Kickstarter takes 10% off the top for their fees plus the credit card processing fees.

Ok, $1700 is good? I'll need about $600 for book printing and postage. Then I have to pay the audio narrator (which was the goal of running this). Audio costs me about $180 per finished hour of the audiobook. I expect that to be about $1200.

Yay! I made my goal. The money comes in and the money goes out. BUT, I will have the audio book produced at almost no additional expense. Since it take me about three years to recoup the cost of an audio book production from ALL sales of the book (ebook and print as well as audio), that's a luxury I can rarely afford.

Still, it's good news because I get the audio book for pennies out of pocket, instead of skipping it entirely.
